Thyroid cancer and general question

I talked to my sister and asked about surgery she said that they are not going to do surgery until after they do 6 weeks of radiation to shrink it. She said she is on a very low dose, that is injected.

Is it normal to do the treatment before surgery? From what I have read it sounds like you do surgery then radiation to kill anything left behind.

I love my sister dearly but she likes to get attention from people, So she lies a lot.

I dont want to think she is lying, Why would someone lie like that. But with her track record I dont know. But if she does have this (our mom went with her on the first radiation appt) and she isnt getting the proper care?

If your mother went with her on her first radiation appointment then how could she be lying? I'm missing something.

If she had a biopsy already, then they should know the type and what stage it is. Has she shared this information with you or does your mom know? That might explain what treatment she is getting

Honestly I have not heard of this kind of treatment. Last year when I was dx with thyroid cancer the #1 priority was getting the huge tumor out asap, not trying to shrink it first.

My mom went with her and waited in the lobby, and she will beleive anything sister says. I will ask her what stage of cancer it is. From what Mom says the thyroid is huge, thats why they have to shrink it first before they can remove it.

I know 4 people who had thyroid cancer and everyone got their thyroid out before anything else.

I hope your sis is getting the proper treatment. Maybe you can suggest a second opinion?

I will ask my sister to get a 2nd opinion. She should be getting the care she needs right away and not go for 6 weeks of radiation then surgery.

That description does not really seem to make sense. Taking out your thyroid is not like taking out, say, your stomach. It's like chewed up bubble gum- has to be scraped out of there. If the cancer has spread, they just cut a bigger opening. Mine goes from the middle of my neck across to my left side and up below my ear.

I'm pretty sure she has lost hair. I don't know any of her friends or family. I want to do something special...I'm just not sure what. Thank you!

Head covers take a yard of funky fabric, turn the edges over and sew them. The funkier the fabric, the cooler the compliments...I know, I did this.

It sounds right, but from what you have said, I don't care for her primary doctor. Remember to ask the type of Thyroid cancer and what they are expecting to raise her synthroid levels to.
