Just booked a week in a two bedroom at Kidani from August 20-27th 2013.

However, at 7 months, we'd like to modify it by dropping the last four nights at Kidani and getting a THV.

Are the treehouses hard to come by at that time of year? If we can't do it no biggie that's why I booked our week today at our home resort.

For dates in 2012 and before, the treehouses were difficult to get at 7 months out most times of year. Effective 2013 when you want to go, the point cost of the treehouses went up about 15% for every week of the year. Thus far at 7 months out for all dates from Jan through most of April 2013, the treehouses have been open at 7 months out and that includes Presidents and the Easter weeks. In other words, it appears the point increase has had a significant impact on demand for the treehouses and it is now easy to get them 7 months out. Moreover, the time of year you want to go is a low DVC demand time and thus my sense is you will have no problem at all getting a treehouse.

thv was readily available within seven months for late february booking 2013.

As long as you book just as soon as you can, I think you will be ok for those dates.

How could they raise the point values so much for the THVs? Did the lower the points for the villas at SSR? I thought they couldn't add or subtract from the basic points in each resort like that.

Yes. The treehouse villas went up in cost while other villas decreased to offset.

I just checked the point charts and I see how they did that. They decreased the points for a two bedroom while Increasing the points for a THV. What happens to the family who purchased enough points for a THV in 2011-2012 and now in 2013 they don't have enough points to take their vacation. This can be a big issue for larger families or extended families. Seems like a kick in the head for them. I know I wouldn't be happy.

I booked a September 13-17 trip just this past March with no problem at all. I was surprised at the choices of availability just 6 months out for the Treehouse Villas.

I think you will be fine..good luck!

Handed this thread to my wife and this is what she looked like...:furious:

We stayed at THV in 2011 for six nights of our two week Orlando trip, and thoroughly loved it -- booked the stay right on 11 months in Aug 2010, and the MS rep congratulated me for calling right at 11 months.

Due to the points increase, we're staying only five nights at THV, and we're planning on adding a third night at Universal to substitute for one less DVC night.

We hope to add on at SSR in the future -- hopefully the reduced demand for the Treehouses will keep the resale price for SSR low!:cool1:

OP: good luck with your reservation change and enjoy the Treehouses -- but be careful of the bedposts in the master bedroom...

What happens is they then realize they did not research the product they bought. Points can and have been adjusted without notice, so one would be unwise to purchase without knowing this.

They would either have to borrow from the next year, bank and not go as often, or purchase more points, or shorten the vacation.

I booked THV for this past August 14 - 18 at 7 months. Good Luck.

Okay now you've got me curious about the bedposts loll!

The posts protrude a few inches more than you expect, and are right at shin height. After the third or fourth time you bump them, you'll learn to walk a foot clear of the bed.

Of course, you'll ask "Why can't you just see the post to avoid it?". When you stay, you'll understand - the natural light in the bedrooms (and living room) is less than you're probably used to.
