Last night around 9 the storms started up again. After about 20 minutes of louder and louder thunder and ever increasing lightening (one of which knocked out lights out for a few seconds), the hail started.
Hail is reasonably unusual where I live.
Most of what's falling is rain but the snow white drops are hail as are the white dots on the ground. For a short period of time the ground was nearly covered.
The pellets measured between 1/2 to 3/4 inch. I heard on the local channel that a town not far from us had hail up to 2 inches across!
This certainly wasn't the most dramatic Thunderstorm we've had but it was interesting. That honor belongs to a summer storm we had in July of 1999. During that event we had a lightening strike in our front yard and hail the size of golf balls! There was so much of it that, even with it being over 80 degrees, it took more than 3 hours for it all to melt away.
