I need to know what is it like in the beginning of may. We are going to be in the World April 30 through May 6 and I am afraid of thunderstorms! We will be staying in a 3rd floor condo (top floor) and I am afraid I choose the wrong time to go. Are there going to be many thunderstorms during that time?

I won't lie to you. Just because we live here, we don't get use to them. They can get intense, come on suddenly and you can get very wet. My family has bought many, many.... Dis umbrellas and learned to huddle together. :umbrella: It is not the worse time, but it is very possible to get sudden storms. This is the beginning of the "rainy season". Most often these storms produce beautiful rainbows. :rainbow: Sometimes even double rainbows. :rainbow: :rainbow: Don't worry too much! Relax and enjoy your trip!! :woohoo:

I used to be scared of storms too, and my DH Grandmother made it better by reminding me that it is just the Lord doing his work. "Stay inside, keep your shoes on (dunno :confused3 ..lol), and let the earth get cleaned". You will be fine. Storms in FL. are really quick.

Besides, since they say your odds of winning the lottery are greater than your odds of getting struck by lightning, maybe if you get struck, that means your chances of winning the lottery increase???

Hey, it's my crazy logic if you knew me you would totally understand....lol

May is much better than June Last June it rained every day .

I am still really worried about it. I don't want to go to Disney if it's going to storm. Rain I can handle. Thunderstorms I can not.

It looks like you will be on your honeymoon? Congratulations. A good storm will be a good excuse to go back to your room and snuggle with your new hubby. And I agree with the poster above. June is lots of storms. I am going in June, but I could care less about the storms. I live in Va. Beach and we get them a lot too. At least they are quick storms. Try to have a good time, and don't think about it too much. You got a big day coming up enjoy every second of it. :goodvibes

OH I am already married. LOL. We never got a honeymoon when we got married because of money. We have been married for 5 years.

Not to scare anyone, but your chances of being struct by lightening in Florida are pretty good if you are not careful. They don't call this the lightening capital of the US for nothing. They make a point on the local weather to tell people to stay inside during a thunderstorm here. They aren't kidding. People do get struck by lightening fairly frequently here. That being said, the storms come and go quickly. Just stay inside until the storm passes and you will be fine.

I suggest maybe getting a "thunderstorm" CD or something to get more comfortable about it, because FL is the number one storm capital of the country.

Although early May is not as common as summertime for thunderstorms, it's still not at all unusual for them to occur during this time. We've been to WDW many times during this time of year. Some years it's been beautiful, some years extremely hot without a drop of rain and others it's been rainy with storms. As long as you take cover you'll be fine. Now driving in them is another story, especially on the highway.

Just have some common sense about it and you'll be fine (like vacate a pool if you hear thunder, don't stand by a metal fence or in an open field, etc). But, honestly to make a prediction to say there will be no storms is like saying there will be no more hurricanes. It's pretty impossible.

Storms can occur in FL anytime through the year although they are definitely far and few between during the winter months, but they still happen on occasion especially when fronts pass through. It would be a shame to let Mother Nature ruin your chance to go to WDW :rolleyes2

I may let it ruin my time. I honestly will have a nervous breakdown if there are storms all the time when we go down.

:wave2: Hi! Fellow thunderstorm-phobic, here so I do understand where you are coming from!

First, let me say, I have not ever traveled to Florida and *not* seen a thunderstorm. Mid-August seemed to be the worst time in my experience.

The good news--they are almost always VERY short. In fact, I've gone in a ride when it was sunny and dry, and come out to find everything wet--a storm had come and gone in the time it takes to ride one ride!

It also doesn't storm late at night, from my experience, which is the scariest time for me, personally. If you are in the parks when one comes up (and you'll know it's coming, you'll see the clouds), find a nice, large ride building and you won't even hear it. It will pass so quick you'll miss it. Late afternoon seems to be a common time.

I know it's impossible to tell you not to worry about it, I know how these phobias go. If you could control it, you wouldn't have it at all, right? You need to find some coping mechanisms. I'd hate to see you miss out on a trip of a lifetime for this.

One thing I do with the pre- anxiety is procrastinate it. (seriously). If I find myself starting to worry, I recognize it, but decide I'll worry about that tomorrow. I keep doing that until I'm there and just have to deal with it.

Breathing exercising, visualization exercises might work, too. Maybe even a doctor is in order here, though I've been too much of whimp about it myself to see one.

And on a final note, for what it's worth, for some reason I find storms in Disney less scary. It's like a magical place where the storms can't hurt me. Naive, I know, but it gets me through.

Good luck!

We went the exact week this year and only had one day all week where we had a quick storm. We were at MGM and simply stayed under an overhang and watched it pour for about 10 minutes. After that, the sun came back out and we were on our merry way. It was a perfect time to visit WDW. We had beautiful weather, not being terribly hot, but warm enough to enjoy swimming and the water parks. There is plenty of activity do do inside if there is a storm. If there is a chance of storms, Epcot has the most indoor activities.

I would go that week every year if I could! The crowds were bearable and we had the best time ever!

Good luck!! My fingers are crossed for you for lots of sun :sunny:
