Thumbs down: Wolfgang Puck's Cafe

I've been to Wolfgang Puck's on previous trips, and was looking forward to our dinner tonight. We passed by it yesterday and checked out the menu, which made me even more excited.

We had an ADR for 7:00 p.m. this evening. We arrived at 6:30 p.m. to find a sign outside the restaurant stating that Wolfgang Puck's was closed for the day (the express, cafe, and dining room) for a one day refurbishment. This made me very angry, considering I didn't get a phone call or anything to let me know that this was going to happen and there was no signs or anything up yesterday either.

I made my way to the Downtown Disney Guest Relations booth, where the CM there said that they didn't know about the closure until today either, and said we were on our own. We ended up having to go to Planet Hollywood, waiting 45 mins in line. Planet Hollywood is no Wolfgang Puck's, but everything else was booked up even more!

I called Guest Information when I got back to the hotel, and they referred us to the manager at our hotel, but he wasn't aware of the closure either (seems that nobody was, but they were getting lots of complaints about it.)

Anyways, nothing was done to really fix the problem. I'm really not happy with whoever runs Wolfgang Puck's or Disney right now. Boo for Wolfgang Puck's for not letting anyone know about the closure, and boo disney for not rectifying the problem when they should have known about it starting early today.

Anyone have any suggestions if there's anything else I can do to ensure this problem doesn't happen again for anyone else?

Wow! I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm surprised no one tried to get in touch with you since you had a reservation. It would have been nice if you had known in advance. Makes me wonder if there wasn't some kind of issue in the restaurant to make them close suddenly - perhaps a ventilation issue they had to address.

Since I've worked in the food business for 7 yrs...there might be several factors. WGP might not be owned by Disney which explains why Disney did not know about the closing. Franchise rest. license to operate inside DW? If this was the case DW cannot do anything about it. Second...if there was something serious wrong with WGP operations... a case in Houston....that a rest. employee had Hep. B or C...can't remember which.... and was spreading it at work with employees and customers - had to shut down business all together that day until all were cleared for operation again. Plus, all employees and customers that ate at for the week had to go get Hep. shots. It was a major deal on Houston's news. So some freak thing could have happened and WGP was shut down for the day, who knows. Who can you complain too, besides WGP? I rather they be safe...then me and my family eating there and getting sick......I think them losing that much business and risk losing future business is bad enough for their reputation and business and punishment enough. I guess...when I'm on vacation, I roll with the flow...no sense getting upset about something that is out of our hands since we really don't know what would caused WGP to shut down for the day

Well don't worry you didn't miss anything. When we were there last August for lunch on the last day of our trip we had the worst meal ever. The only things that were good were the sodas, quesidaillas, and calamri. the main dishes were horrible. We decided to give them another try,this time for dinner in April. Once again we were dissapointed. I would not give them anymore of my money. The only person that liked their meal in April was my oldest son. He ordered the quesidailla, wolf steak and the fondue.
I think that they should have contacted you regardless of what was going on there.
But, I know for a fact we will never return.
