Throwaway room (read post #2041 or #2710 before posting)

I suppose. I haven't read all of this thread, but where are you staying that a throwaway room makes sense?

We often stay at the values, and they are pretty close to the $125 mark most of the year with the ever-present 20% off discounts. Where are you staying that costs so much less than $125? Or reverse that, getting a campsite w/partial costs a minimum of $62.
Plus, checking-in to the resort has to 'cost' you at least an hour of your time. There is some distance between Ft. Wilderness and MK.

The math just doesn't seem to add up to me.

You are spending an hour of vacation time, plus all the time it takes you to book/cancel your reservation, and at least $62 for your fast passes, to save maybe 60minutes of time - and that's being generous.

Where are you staying that makes this remotely worth doing? Why not spend the night at Pop? Oh, and I'm not even factoring the time it takes to drive round trip from where you are staying to WDW.

The whole idea just seems like a colossal waste. Is it just much easier to arrive at rope drop or get in in line for 7DMt at 10pm.

Before we added extra days to our trip and added the Dolphin we were originally booking a throwaway . For the rest of the trip we were going to either be staying at the JW, The ritz , Hyatt Grand, The Waldorf, or using a Marriott timeshare trade. (we ended up using our timeshare from Aruba to trade since we have extra weeks in the exchg pool).

In each and every case of the hotels we considered imho every hotel was better for us than the GF or AK (which were the only ones we'd consider) and the prices were anywhere from 25% to 65% less.

I was very particular as to what times we'd be going to the parks, what days etc since we gen'l only do half days. Just this week I went in to change something for the last week of Sept. This is now about 30 days out. I could not get the times I wanted. For us it would be well worth booking the throwaway.

Someone, PLEASE tell me I have done this correctly, meaning that I understand the concept of the throwaway room.

We have 5 day park tickets. We are arriving Feb 22, staying off site, and will begin to hit the parks on Feb 23. I booked a throwaway room (campsite) for 1 night, for the night of Feb 23.

So if I understand this correctly, I should be able to make FP selections beginning 60 days before the campsite reservation date of Feb 23, and then will be able to continue to book, one day at a time, 60 days out for the remainder of our 5 day tickets.
Is this correct? I was so sure it was, now reading other FP threads I'm not sure.

Thanks so much for any help/clarification,

Karen :)

Yes that is the way it should work. Happy planning :)

At 60 days, you should be able to make FP+ selections for two of the 5 days - the check-in day and the check out day. Then at 60 days from each day after that, you will be able to make FP+ selections for that particular day.

We had this exact scenario, 5 day ticket, booked a campsite for the night of our first day in the park. At your 60 day window check the website and it should let you book FP+ for the first 1-2 days, then just keep going back to the website every day after that to book the rest.

Luckybee, doconeill and Unearneed Happiness, thank you so much  for your replies.
I thought I had it correct but then began to doubt myself. :(

And just for my peace of mind, please let me ask.....I can check in on line, correct?
And I will get the free parking at a park/hotel on my check in and check out days. Really we would like to park at The Contemporary on our first day for a breakfast at CM. Will the free parking be allowed at the Contemporary?

Sorry for all the questions, I just need to make sure I get this right.

And once again, thank you so much for all the help with this

YW...I cant help with the online check in...I think you can but for us Canadians they wont mail out magic bands so there always has to be some form of in person check in. Yes to both parking questions.

Ask anything you like. Most here will be happy to help :)

Is the totally virtual online check in (activating parking via magicbands, etc.) working for everyone now?

Just so I have the order of this right, because I am new to all the magic bands and fp+. It's been five years since we've been to Disneyworld and I haven't kept up with the changes, now I'm feeling a little lost.

Step 1 - buy tickets (we are doing 7 days of tickets).
Step 2 - purchase 1 night at the campground. We will get free parking for the check-in and check-out day, and magic bands for all six of us.
Step 3 - 60 days before the day of my check-in at the campground, I can make fp+ reservations for the day I check in and the day I check out.
Step 4 - every day after the check out day, I can make fp+ reservations for the day that corresponds with the 60 days-afterward ticket until I've made reservations for all for our 7 days tickets.

How do my tickets get linked with my campground stay and how does that all get linked with fp+?

The tickets don't get linked directly to the campground stay. They are all indirectly linked through your MDX profile.

1) You have a WDW resort reservation linked in your profile;
2) You have a WDW ticket linked in your profile

therefore, you are enabled to make FP+ selections at 60 days from the check-in date of that resort reservation.

Does it matter if I buy the tickets from the Undercover Tourist? Does it matter the order that I do it? (Can I book the campsite now, then buy the tickets a month from now?)

I have a similar question to PP. My family is planning on staying at POP for 2 nights and then staying offsite for 7 days. I'm planning on purchasing 6 day park passes. Do I have to reserve my room and add park tickets to reserve fp+ 60 days out or can I purchase my tickets from Undercover Tourist and link them to MDE?

It does not generally matter where you get the tickets from, as long as they are valid. So you can book a room only reservation and get your tickets from Undercover Tourist. As long as both are linked in your profile in MDX, you're all set.

I'm pretty sure for now that it was just a test. I know when I did online check-in last week, it said I qualified for stream-line check-in and to proceed to that kiosk/area at the hotel when I arrive...sounds like regular online check-in to me.

So if I do not go to the campground to actually check in will my FP's be lost/gone?
I'm ok if I lose the free parking, but I certainly don't want to lose my FP's.

Thanks again,

Karen:)

No, I don't think you will lose your FP+ if you don't check-in. The parking I'm not sure about though.

I didn't see where anyone had answered this for you. If you are staying at the Contemporary, you can park at the Contemporary. If you are going to the Contemporary for an ADR, subject to availability, the parking would be free - always and to anyone ... completely independent of having a throwaway room. The two days of "free parking" that everyone is talking about would be at the parks.

When we have had ADRs at the Contemporary, we have valet parked. They don't care how long you stay if you valet.;)

Parking at any of the resorts is always free (unless you valet), subject to availability. However, this is intended to be for visiting the resort, not for THEN going to a theme park. There are reports on these boards of people self-parking at the Contemporary (who are not staying there), and getting towed. I don't know how often it happens. I think I read somewhere that there's a 3 hour limit on self-parking if you're not staying there. I would guess that the Contemporary is stricter than other resorts because of the close proximity to MK.

Regardless, if you're going to a theme park, you're expected to park at the theme park. If you're dining at a resort, you may park there for free (subject to availability), but you're really just supposed to be visiting the resort.
