Throwaway FP+?

I promise, this should be less controversial than the other "throwaway" thread...

Let's say your kids really need to ride both Test Track and Soarin'. Would it be possible to book something really early (Captain EO, for example), never use it, let it expire. Then after you ride Soarin' and Spaceship Earth, grab TT for later in the afternoon evening.

Example:
Captain EO 9:15-10:15
Soarin' 10:15-11:15
Spaceship Earth 11:15-12:15

Grab a TT FP+ for later afternoon/evening, ride a few less popular rides, head back to the resort in the afternoon, then come back to ride TT and catch illuminations (without FP+).

All depends on availability but I think this is my what I'm thinking for my upcoming trip.

I don't think it would let you but if I'm wrong someone else will come and correct me lol. Once the captain eo expires it will automatically pick something for you in it's place and it will be a tier 2 attraction. The tiers only go away after all 3 passes have been used.

You take a chance that there will be non available. Which will lead to disappointment for the child.
I had a hard time getting a soaring for May 25. Then one day it was there

Pick one and do the other stand by at rope drop

I tried that strategy last week. I went to a FP Kiosk around 12 After I used up all my FP's and I could have received a FP for TT at 6:30. It was too bad because we needed to leave the park around 5:30 so we couldn't ride TT. Maybe next time :)

It was a slow day at Epcot though...

The headliners are way too important for us to gamble on a 4th FP+
But I will admit, thats not a bad thought process!

My plan if we want to hit major headliner (top tier) rides is to hit 1 or 2 at RD and then FP+ for one.

I'm not counting on getting top tier rides as 4th or 5th FP+
If it happens..... then it will be a wonderful magical surprise.
If it doesnt and we can only get things like Maelstrom, Great big movie ride or Pirates etc..... then we will be wicked happy since we already hit big stuff at rope drop and initial 3 FP+

Possible on a slower day, and more likely with TT as the late FP than with Soarin'. Yesterday was moderate crowds and I was able to get TT for 5:15p-6:15p at about 12:30p. Soarin' was gone.

We basically tried to do the same thing this week and it didn't work out. On Thursday we had fp+ for Nemo at 9:30 which we skipped because the group wanted Starbucks after standby Test Track (which was maybe 30 minutes but felt shorter).

Then we did our 10:30 Soaring but skipped our 11:30 living with the land because I'm the only one that likes that ride and I was overruled. We were able to ride maelstrom standby at around noon with maybe just 15 minute wait.

Here was my fatal flaw - we didn't look up where the FP+ kiosks are located (nowhere in WS) so we were not back near a kiosk until around 3pm. There were no FP+ left for test track or soaring all day.

So YES, you can book a 4th Fp+ after your others expire even if you don't use some but get to a kiosk ASAP.

Another quirk I noticed from seeing others at Fp+ kiosk... If you use at least one and let others expire it is pretty simple. If you do not use any you will have to get a cast member to assist you. There seems to be an issue getting 4th if you skipped all three.

Don't count on additional because it worked fabulously one day of our trip but not at all on the other two days. On a very rainy MK we pulled three extra and could have done more but lines were short anyway and we were getting tired. PP was only issue as FP+ were gone by about 8pm. Not so good at Epcot or DHS when the system was down all day with SDMT FP opening online.

Thanks for all the responses. I certainly wouldn't gamble a FP+ I actually wanted to try to make this work, but there really aren't any tier 2 at Epcot that are jumping out at me anyway. At a minimum I could probably get a Maelstrom FP+, which I think is a bit better than Captain EO.

This is great info -- thanks so much for posting. It's good to know for other reasons too, such as getting to the park later than anticipated and actually missing the first FP+.;)
