I'll start with the positives. I really, truly love the rooms. The decor, and the layout of the studios really works for us, and of course the resort is lovely. It's wonderful to be at a resort on the monorail line.

The service however regarding check-in, room requests, etc.. was incredibly lacking. I don't know if it's a mgmt. issue, or that the staff simply doesn't care, but compared to the other DVC resorts they're really lagging behind.

For some reason when we got the text about our room our message told us we had to come to the front desk. I don't know why, as nothing special was needed and our bands worked fine. No welcome home greeting, no lei's at check in (My mother had to ask) , and no acknowledgement that we even made a room request (I think they actually ignore them. We didn't even get a "sorry...we realize you made a request for the 3rd floor, but this is all we had") I realize not all room requests can be honored, but they truly seemed like they didn't even bother with ours. I wasn't so concerned about the view, as I was with safety. We really wanted a room with one of the enclosed balconies. I requested 3rd floor, but we told them we'd be happy with anything...even 2nd floor if we could just have a patio that could corral our toddler. We were told the only thing they could do was move us SIX days later and there would be a $30 room change fee (and we were only offered that after my husband stopped in a second time to see before we unpacked what the odds were of being moved, because the first time we asked they didn't put it in the system, but stuck a post it on the desk). They couldn't even put us on the 2nd floor. What we have instead is a first floor room, which also happens to be right in front of a big sewer grate and of course right by the water in front of the bungalows (Not so perfect for a toddler who takes off running) So no sitting on the patio and relaxing for us the entire trip.

Eh, it is what it is, and don't take this as a major complaint. I'm still very grateful to be here on vacation, I still love this resort, but I probably will choose the other DVC resorts for the most part from now on since we've had such better receptions and service there. Not saying I'd never come back again, but it's not going to be high on the list. I'm bummed to have to say I'm glad this isn't our home resort, and I don't think we'll be adding on any points here as it seems like it's such a crapshoot what you get for the same amount of points. Some people get lovely rooms and just what they want, others get something much different. It seems a little more consistent at the other DVC properties.

I guess if we were to stay here ever again I'd love to ask if anyone knows the secret to getting something even *close* to what you request. I would have been happy with 2nd floor even. Or for that matter, even a simple..."we're really super sorry" Heck, just being welcomed properly when we checked in might have been nice.

Edited to add: If you are concerned about fireworks views from the first floor however, they are still actually quite nice (Though in our case, it would have been nicer to see them outside) You can't really see the castle, but you can still see the show well.

Just a sidenote...the ferry horns totally aren't bothering us. I guess I'm used to more noises with a toddler. lol.

Not all units have been added to the association so available units may have been limited.
