Hi all,

I'm thinking about trying Kali River Rapids in AK this summer , my kids will be 10 & 7 by then, they get very skittish/ are afraid of intense rides so the most intense ride we ever went on was Soarin' & they did fine on this ride.

How does Kali River Rides compare?

& 7 Dwarfs Mine rain in MK?

Thanks for any advice, I don't want them to get terrified on a ride they are not ready for yet.

I'm probably not the best person to give advice on the matter (my kids loved Tower of Terror at 4), but I don't consider any of these truly intense. I guess it depends on your definition of intense. I usually take it to mean drops and loops. But that being said, there is a small drop on Kali. And since you have no idea how you may go down, you might have to go down backwards. I know that may be daunting for some. The 7 dwarfs mine train is not a roller coaster by most people's definition. It does move fast at some parts, but there are no big drops. Hope this helps.

While DW won't do any of those three, she barely puts up with the hill in Pirates.

But Kali and 7DMT are very low thrill, they are fun (though 7DMT is only 2/3rds the length it should be...really missing a third lift hill)

Kali is not dark. If they can handle getting wet and minor drops (much shorter than splash), they will be fine. My kids have enjoyed it from age 4. Seven dwarves is like a baby Big Thunder. It does have a dark section, but the only scary character is the witch at the end. She is easily overlooked from the rear of the train. Soaring affects people with motion sickness/fear of heights, so I would only be concerned if your kids experience that. My odd who does get motion sick was fine at age 6 and older.

Just had a thought... Have kids watch a you tube video. We preview rides this way so kids know what to expect. Though, my son now has a crazy long list of roller coasters to visit around the world now!

Have your kids done the Barnstormer? If they like that, they'd probably like 7DMT.

Kali is not scary at all. There's bigger "threat" of getting wet than getting scared.

It is also so short that you'll come off it wondering if that was all there was to it.

I would find them more "intense" than Soarin', but only because Soarin' isn't intense to me. But I haven't ridden Mind Train, yet, due to pregnancy.

But, my then 3yo rode Barnstormer in February and that was a bit scary too her. FF to December and she is now 4.5. She rode Barnstormer twice in a row (no one waiting), Mine Train twice (different days), and Kali 4x. She did think getting wet was funny and would have gone more.

The intense part of Kali seems to be the anticipation of whether or not you will get soaked. At least to me.

She is one of those (per our photo pass file thing that had a video for Mine train) that looks a bit scared during more intense parts, but is all smiles at the end.

I can relate to this.
When DD was 10, she was not happy with the drops on Pirates of the Caribbean, predominately because they seemed more intense in the dark.

Nothing could persuade her that it was not extreme.

It was only because of her Harry Potter obsession that she sucked it up and went on Forbidden Journey.

At that time she went on Kali River Rapids but took a bit of gentle encouragement. Afterwards she declared it a hit. Then went on Soaring, Big Thunder Mountain and Dinosaur.
I agree with others about watching youtube videos. Although make sure you check them out first. Would not want to her some child/adult screaming like a banshee.

Good luck with encouraging your children.

DD will be 13 this year and is gearing up for her first time on Tower of Terror. Whereas her brother and elder sister were fearless of these rides while aged 6 :confused3:goodvibes

I think they'll be fine on both of those. My younger kids had never ridden any rides before our recent trip and they did great on all of them, though one daughter didn't want to go back onto Expedition Everest or Tower of Terror, but if asked now, she'd go again.

I would recommend a poncho for Kali. Two of our party of nine (all in one raft) got drenched- no exaggeration, head to toe soaking wet, wringing out clothing- and it was not fun, especially on a cooler December day (my fault completely, bought the ponchos, left them in the room). You may not get wet at all, but it could make for a very uncomfortable day if you get as wet as we did, or an expensive one if you have to buy dry clothing (saw lots of that going on, as well as guest buying towels and blankets).

Have your kids done the Barnstormer? If they like that, they'd probably like 7DMT.

This made me :rotfl2:

We were going to skip Barnstormer, but then got additional FP for it, so young kids rode. Came off and said, "It was only 12 seconds; I counted."

7DMT is definitely longer than 12 seconds, but it does seem to go by extremely fast.

My daughter was 5 when we did Kali. I thought it was great fun, she was just mad because she hadn't expected to get wet. I would class this one very low of the thrill scale. No comparison to barnstormer, which she found too intense at that age.

Kali was short and lame. We all hated getting that wet and uncomfortable without even having had fun on the ride. It's on our never again list, but certainly not because of the thrill level.

For me, Kali is the tamest of the three. Soarin is the most "thrilling" as I have a fear of heights. After riding it Nov 2013 for the first time, I planned never to do it again, but did it for my girls on my next trip since they both like it and we are not comfortable with them riding alone. Someone who does not have a fear of heights might think Soarin is less thrilling than the others.

We are headed down for spring break for the first time in a few years. Is 7DMT really comparable to Barnstormer?

It's a bit more fun and a bit longer than Barnstormer, but comparable in many ways - more elaborate scenery, cars swing a little it. It's very well themed. But it's short and not scary. Audioanimatronics are very good.
