Thrifty wildcar-anyone tried this?

I see that Thrifty has a program called wildcar. You order your rental car but don't know what you'll get until you are at the rental counter. You are guaranteed at least a midsize car or larger. I wonder how often you can get a larger car. The rate is less than that of a midsize . It seems to be a no brainer if you only need a midsize car. but I'm wondering if people often get those cars that are larger. I'm worried about my luggage fitting in the midsize if that's what we got.Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'm considering it for a trip to Ft Lauderdale because you need to take a shuttle to the rental cars no matter what company. In Orlando when you can walk across the street to National/Alamo/Dollar and you have to take a shuttle to Thrifty I wouldn't consider it. I find it strange that you are guaranteed no less than a mid-sized but the price is cheaper than just booking a mid-sized straight away. I don't get it.

Rule 1 of car renting.

NEVER rent less then you need. You can almost gurantee that will be the time you only get what you rented. So if you can live with a midsize this might be a good deal. If you MUST have something bigger I wouldn't risk it!

I used dollar's lock low and go- gaurenteed intermediate or larger with an intermediate price. I was given a dodge avenger. about the size of a ford Taurus. They also gave me a discount for using American Express. Worked out ok,would have liked larger but I didnt want to pay larger so I was satisfied. ( I rented in Phoenix)

I used it last week. I recieved a mid size Dodge Avenger. I was hoping for a larger car but it was ok. Really the next grade up was only $5 more so if you want a larger car I would reserve the larger one. The Thrifty lot had many cars on it.
