Barb, how long is the shuttle trip? And do they run as frequently at 4:30 am or 10:00 pm as during the middle of the day? Or will I have to sit around at 4:30 am waiting at their office and gduvall will have to call them and wait?
I can save myself a little over $34 if I use Thrifty instead of Budget, but I don't want to waste a lot of time sitting in their office at 4:30 am!
The latest we've arrived is somewhere between midnight and 1 a.m., and the shuttle was either waiting there or literally pulling up just as I got out my cell phone to call. The trip is a matter of minutes...it's right outside the North Exit, just past the airport hotels.

I think there might even be a courtesy phone with a direct line in the luggage area. Hopefully you won't even need to call. I am a paranoid traveler and have them programmed into my cell phone (Hertz too), but they have been wonderful about being there already.
Barb
Barb, in your opinion is the 'hassle' worth it to save $34? I've budgeted everywhere else on this trip, and I just don't know if I should go with the econo (arriving late so may snag an upgrade) from Thrifty or the mid-size from Budget to save 34 and some odd change. It's starting to drive me crazy!
At MCO what size vehicle is usually rented out at THRIFTY(econo size)? There will be four of us, 2 adults and 2 young kids. I am wondering how much luggage we can bring?
I am a major penny pincher, so I would go with Thrifty to save the $$. The only thing that might sway me to paying for for Budget would be if I know I will be in a hurry (it's quicker to drop off a car onsite and not wait for a shuttle, and it's cheaper to take 417 and jump off at Boggy Creek road to fill up at the Circle K than to fill up at the gas station across the street from Thrifty/Hertz). I have received upgrades at both Budget and Thrifty, including economy to SUV! That is not the norm, and about half the time I get what I reserve, but there is a chance at either. I think Thrifty is a Ford Focus or Cavilier, and Budget is usually Fords, but I may be confused because we rent a car in Orlando twice a month and have worked our way through almost all the agencies via Priceline.
Barb
Barb, I'm a major penny pincher too. I've used Priceline for hotels and I bought my airline tickets for my upcoming trip from Hotwire. It's a major splurge for me to stay on-site this trip...and that's only because I received the 'special' e-mail ($49 value, $79 mod). No way would I spend over $100 a night, just to use the bed and shower.
Like you, the 4:30 am drop off is what might sway me towards Budget. I figure, if I rent through Budget I might be able to sleep in an extra 30 minutes and drop off their car at 5 am. I might be able to get 4 hours sleep instead of 3 1/2. I have to figure out if that extra 30 minutes is worth $34 to me.
