Anybody ever encounter long lines at their rental counter? I'm wondering if I should sign up for their program (whatever they call it).

DEFINITELY sign up for their Blue Chip Program! I've used them several times and always was in & out in a matter of minutes! The last time I was there was a Wednesday night around 11:30pm and there were about 20 people in line. I walkd up to the Blue Chip counter and was out of there in about 3 minutes! It's great, I highly recommend it!

The blue Chip program is well worth. Sign Up! The long lines at the MCO location inspired me to sign up. I waited 45 mins on one of my visits. The next time I used them it took me all of 10 mins. to get my car assignment.

I have rented from Thrifty 4 times and never had to wait. I only used the Blue Chip desk once. HOWEVER ... I would still suggest that you sign up for Blue Chip. They will have all your credit card and additional insurance (if any) information in the system. I have never had a Thrifty empolyee try to sell me extra insurance and I think that's because of Blue Chip.

I only rented from Thrifty once and there was no one in either line but I would still recommend joining Blue Chip. You never know what you will find for lines until you get there. Blue Chip is free, your credit and license information is on file and your paperwork is complete and waiting for you. You're in and out faster and on your way to WDW.

I echo what posters have said....I arrived last year at midnight..about 20 people in line, walked over to the empty blue chip line and was in my car in 3 minutes flat. Great service and friendly too.

Another thing to remember - if you arrive at night let the drive know you have Blue Chip Reservation. They will call ahead to let them know you're on the way in. During the day they have a person standing outside the shuttle with a clipboard and will ask if you have a Blue Chip reservation, but at night they don't. Just let the driver know.

We used them last year arriving around Noon time and the line was really loooong. Also, we were pressured about the insurance and then make sure you read the contract before signing it because even after declining the insurance they still added it on. Then the lady behind the counter got all huffy with us when we pointed out the error to her. I swear, she gave us the crappiest minivan on purpose because we declined the insurance and pointed out her mistake. Other than that, we had no problems. Drop off was easy and the shuttle to the airport was quick.

Do you think these rental car employees behind the counter receive some sort of monetary bonus for selling the insurance? Why else would they be so pushy?

Can you sign up for Blue Chip on line???? How do you then apply it to an existing reservation?

I think they are under pressure from their managers and the company to sell additional insurance. Like the check-out clerks at department stores are pressured to offer you their store credit card, or fast food employees pressure you to order fries. They may in fact have some quota they need to fill.

You can sign up for Blue Chip at Thrifty's website (www.thrifty.com). If you have an exsisting reservation than I would suggest that after you sign up and get your Blue Chip number call Thrifty's customer service and have them apply the Blue Chip # to your reservation. Or you can simply cancel your reservation and rebook it with the blue chip number. Another added bonus with the blue chip program is of course the free rentals you earn but the per day prices are alittle bit cheaper than booking without a blue chip #. You may actually save a few dollars on your reservation.

Thanks Karen: :sunny:

I'll get right on that and let you all know if I save a few bucks.

I have only rented from car companies that have the cars in the airport.
This will be my first time using a shuttle.
Any issues with this? Do they come frequently? Walking to the rental garage was always so nice.
We'll be hauling 8 people around though and Thrifty had the best rate by far.
I'm all signed up for Bluechip!!

The shuttle is VERY efficient, so dont worry. You will also get a coupon in the mail after you sign up for blue chip for 10% off your next rental. (Using code WMRT will also give you 10% off).

The shuttle at MCO comes frequently. Actually I've never had to wait very long at all. It's either been in it's assigned space or comes with in 5 mins. time. The drive over to the Thrifty office is approximately 5 mins. It's right outside the airport property. Even when you are on your way back to the airport the shuttles come and go so frequently you won't have to wait long at all. I'm from the DC area and rent from a Thrifty all the time outside of DCA airport. I drop the car off before I go to work and there is a shuttle waiting with in 5 mins time. You should have no problems. If you have the blue chip # already that will get you in and out in a flash!

Shuttles are pretty frequent and Thrifty is less than four miles away. Depending where you catch the shuttle and with 1 or 2 addtional stops your about 10 - 15 minutes from the counter.

I came across a discount code after I made my online reservation. When I go into my reservation and add the code, it recalculates based on the present rates, which are much higher. Do you think if I called Thrifty they would be able to apply the code to the rate I booked?

Probably not, unless it's a coupon. Discount codes are off of the CURRENT rates.
