Has anyone any experience of Thrifty car rental?

The best quote we can get for car hire on our Ontario trip this summer is through a consolidator using Thrifty (out of Torornto airport), so I'm looking for any feedback for them.

Thanks :)

The only time we rented with Thrifty was in Orlando a few years ago.

They are one of the companies who really try to convince you that you need to purchase all the extra insurance.

Find out what all the extra optional insurances are that they have and then see if you are covered through your own car insurance and through your credit card.
You can waive the extra coverage that you don't need or don't want.

They tried to tell us that our credit card didn't cover this and that, so we called the card company from Thrifty to make sure and we were covered. That is how hard they try to sell the extra insurance.

They do have one of the best rates. But even with their good rates, we were so turned off by the hassle that we would pay more somewhere else. Just our personal experience.

I'd say, go with Thrifty as long as you know beforehand what you need. Be firm.

We're renting a car from thrifty out of the Calgary airport because they had the best prices by far. Unfortunately I'll have to take their insurance because my credit card doesn't cover anything . Our trip is in a few weeks so I'll let you know how it goes.

your own car insurance should cover you with a rental car. the only extra insurance i take out on a rental is scratch and dent.

Thanks for the feedback :) We've used Dollar, Alamo and Hertz before and not really had any problems, so I would prefer to use one of them but Thrifty's quote is quite a bit cheaper.

We're coming over from the UK, so our own insurance won't cover us, and the rental firms almost always quote for all inclusive - although exactly what that covers can vary. Usually the only hassle we have upon collection is when they (and I don't think it matters which company we've been with) try to get us to upgrade the type of vehicle.
