I LOVE going to the thrift store or going to a yard sale. Share what you guys found and how much you saved here!

I went to a garage sale, we sell stuff that is collectable. Anyway this woman had a beautiful lamp from the 30's or 40's , could tell by the plug. The light bulb blew and she used pliers to try to remove the part that stayed in from the bulb and ruined it. So she sold it to me for 10 dollars, and went and had it fixed for 45 dollars. It is now waiting to be sold. I have a lot of great finds as I try and be as frugal as I can.

went to goodwill today and came around the corner there was a set of steampunk Minnie Mouse ears marked for $5.99 and there was a 25% discount. Score!

My favorite ever find was a HUGE tub of knex that we found at a yard sale many years ago. They were like 4 or 5 dollars and there was probably a couple hundred dollars worth in there. DS23 played many many hours and DS8 has done the same as well as guest and kids in classes I have taught. A newer item was a travel/carry on case for electronics that I found for 5.00 at Goodwill. It will hold everything DS needs for his first business conference flight he is taking next month. I google my finds to uncover the original cost and this was a high quality/ costly bag. It was is great shape and he will use it for years.

I was happy. I went to a goodwill out of town and found new, read once books, just relapsed for $1.00. And I found last last book of a series DS wanted. That place was clean, organized and had no smell.

I sell on eBay for a second job, so I spend tons of time at yard sales and thrift stores. I love the "thrill of the hunt." I also love when I find things for us at a super bargain. One of my favorite finds was a huge piece of artwork that perfectly matched my living room for $8 at a yard sale.

I agree it is the thrill of the hunt. The things I am looking for though are becoming really hard to find.

I purchased at Salvation Army 2-UV skinz swim shirts with matching shorts for $5.99 set. On their site the shirts are $24.95ea and the shorts are $26.95ea. So for $12.00 I got $103.00!

We also love the thrill of the hunt. So far this month I have 2 brand new Disney hats, glow with the show ears, a die cast monorail set (still in box), and two different lithograph sets. Some were garage sale, some thrift. Not sure the total price, but somewhere in the neighborhood of $20-$25 total.

The staff at our local goodwill knows me and if they know they have something Disney, they tell me when I walk in

I'm addicted to thrifting. The Goodwill stores in my area do $0.99 clothes days every week. I go in early and leave with a ton of great stuff. I keep what fits, sell what doesn't. I funded our upcoming trip and bought a new bed with the money I've made reselling my thrift store finds in less than 1 year.

yes, it's the thrill of the hunt that hooked me too. I also started selling stuff on ebay. I use the money for my travel fund. I used to find so many things but of course I didn't need them. I didn't want to end up on Hoarders. I hated passing up the really good stuff though. Sometimes I'd buy things for other people but then I decided to try selling. I use the money to travel.

I have found so many good deals. Most of the decor in my home is from thrift stores/yard sales. I have been able to decorate for every major holiday (Easter, Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas) this way. My best recent find was an authentic the northface Denali jacket for $5.99. I also found a northface bomber jacket for $8.99.

There are no goodwills around us but I have a good story about rare finds. My neighbor who I used to talk with every day and I used to help him around his home (he was older and had a hard time lifting some things) was having a garage sale because his kids wanted him and his wife to move in with them. I went over and noticed he had 4 milk crated full of albums. I asked him how much since i like their designs and my dad has a nice collection and he said for me $1. These were one his sons collection that he left behind after he moved away to the west coast. He said take it and consider it a gift for helping him out. I brought my dad over to look at them. The albums were in pristine condition and there were many rare albums worth thousands (signed by all 4 Beatles uk version white album and beatles introducing....the Beatles). I think the old man knew the value but did not want to bother with it.

Sometimes people just want stuff gone.
One thing about thrift stores is you can find a lot of designer, high quality clothes. That stuff is/was made to last and people grow tired of it or it's passed down to them and they don't want it. They want it gone and that's more important than the hassle they see in selling it.

Oh I am soooo in on this thread! I buy pretty much everything I wear from Goodwill (excluding undies...) and Estate sale for my household decorations/knickknacks. I love how many unique things you can find when you upcycle

I don't shop at our Goodwill because all the stuff worth buying is overpriced. I have recently discovered a huge flea market we have in our area every couple of months, april-nov. I found some beautiful vinatge "treasures" and now I'm obsessed. I'm searching out all the flea markets within an hour and half drive for more.

My DS went with me (begrudgingly) to goodwill last week. He found a classic Nintendo Gamecube with three controllers, and an gameboy adapter for $35. Went into a used game store and found one without any cords or anything for $50. He was so excited because he has been wanting one for a long time.

Last week I bought a real wood dresser for $20. I'm stripping the paint off, and staining it this coming week.

The geeks in here will appreciate my other bargain: A brand new, never been used official "Bag of Holding" for $5. They sell on Thinkgeek for about $50. My kids and I are arguing over who gets to use it.

I bought a super-cute, denim jacket and a plaid, western-style (snap front) shirt for DD12 and paid $6 total. My DH was stunned that I found a denim jacket in her size for $4. She has outgrown girls' sizes and now that she is in "grown up" sizes, DH has had a reality check. He choked when I bought her a new pair of jeans and told him they were $28. He said, "$28?!...why didn't you just go to Target?"....um, where do you think I got them? He was spoiled by the days of getting girls' jeans on sale at Old Navy for $10. The only style of jeans that fit me properly (long enough with butt coverage and no gap in the back) are the curvy fit jeans in tall from Eddie Bauer...$80 regular price. They are currently on sale for $40 and I have a $10 reward certificate so I can stomach paying the $30 for them.

My brother in law went to an Estate sale and bought me a hutch for my kitchen for 50.00, solid wood. I went to Goodwill and bought a rolling metal cart for my kitchen for 2.99 bought paint to give it some life for 3.98. Now I have a wonderful looking cart to use as an island for just around 7 bucks.
