Getting ready to head to Disney or getting ready for a funeral. :(

We just found out that my FIL has to have a risky surgery done and his date is Nov 22. He has very bad lung capacity problems and has to have a ureter and kidney removed due to cancerous poylps. We are very nervous about him making it through the surgery due to the general anesthesia issues. He will have quite a few doctors there, that's why it took so long to set a date.

How do I get through the next two weeks? We've stopped counting down to Disney (been doing that since 400 days!) because we don't want to keep the kids excited just to have the worst happen (FIL dies) and we have to cancel the trip. So, I've put the packing on hold, the planning is pretty much done so I can just pick that up when everything turns out ok on Nov 22nd. I just wish I could sleep through the next two weeks and know that FIL would be OK.

We would be within that 5 day period so there is alot of financial worry here too. We have close to $500 of MVMCP tickets that I would hope could be refunded (but that is up to Disney, not me). I just have no control over this and it's driving me crazy.

Don't jump all over me about worrying about the trip. I am worried more about FIL and my DH and his family more. But I cannot pretend that this trip isn't playing a role in my worrying too. Both financial and from my kids point, too. I just need to figure out a way to get through the next two weeks sane.

If you could spare some prayers for my FIL, his name is Jack and his surgery is November 22nd.

Thank you.

Karen

THINK POSITIVE!

I know it is a scary time for you and your family, but, please think positive. The doctors are aware of his problems, and they will do everything they can to get him through surgery safely.

The small percentage of people who die during surgery, had problems the Dr's were not aware of, that complicated things. (I am sure there is a minute percentage that had problems the Dr's were aware of, but MINUTE)

Did the Dr's give your FIL any odds for surviving the surgery? They are pretty good with preparing you for any outcome that may not be good.

Please continue the "countdown to Disney" with the kids. Let them know you will be going, but if something "bad" happens to Grampa, then you will have to go another time. Kids can pick up on your stress.

Good wishes, Karen, my best and prayers for your FIL. Hope all goes well, he gets healthy and you guys can head to the World with a clear mind.

Thanks, everyone!

Dan, we would love to meet up with you again during MVMCP. We will hopefully be there on the 28th & 30th.

I'm trying to stay positive, because the alternative is not good for the family. And, as my dh says, why waste these three weeks being sad when we'll end up going and having a great time (since his Dad will be just fine!). :bounce:

So, with some excitement building back up, I changed my timer...

Thanks for the prayers for Jack.

Karen

Sending you good thoughts for a successful surgery and a happy, well deserved trip to the World.

I'll be remembering your FIL, Jack, in my prayers. We had a trip planned for last August and my FIL was really quite ill. My BIL and his wife were supposed to fly to Italy the week before our trip. We were all horrified that something would happen while we were gone. I know how you're feeling. We'll think good thoughts for you and hope to see you on the 30th!!

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie. I have your FIL in my prayers.

Oh my gosh I know exactly how you feel. We go to Disney in 20 days. My mil has liver disaese. She has been deactivated from a transplant list and the other day in the nursing home her leg broke. 2 nights ago I was in the hospital until 3:30am and last night we got home around 2am. I am totally exhausted because I have been ther every day and I also have 3 kids to take care of. She surprisingly got through surgery last night ok but I am so afraid something will happen by our trip. She is always in so much pain I don't know what to wish for. I am bringing 25 people to Disney with us this time and I arranged the whole trip. So if something happens my hands will be tied. Is it wrong to hope for something to happen sooner than later?
