Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good morning :)

I have shared before that I did enjoy a smaller children's series of 15 books called My Secret Unicorn by Linda Chapman. If any of you have read these stories, PM me. It would be fun to discuss them with you.

Fast forwarding is such a handy feature.

Dumbo ride flies at exactly my "fast," speed!

Happy Birthday dear Slo with a big hug :)

Great Value Mini chocolate chip muffins from Walmart

Kroger Dutch Milk Chocolate Hot Chocolate mix from Ralph's

Memories of my beloved grandma who loved most all things Chocolate especially peanut butter cups. My beloved grandpa enjoyed Chocolate chip and chocolate brownie ice cream.
Thank you :goodvibes

Chocolate is hard for me, as I am not very much of a fan. However...
Two family recipes, Colby Cake (Mrs. Colby was my great grandmother's neighbor) and chocolate steamed pudding (my nana's recipe). My favorite "chocolate" recipe is red velvet cake, but being as "brown" was listed on the description of answers, I didn't go with that.

Milk chocolate covered pretzels; I'm into the sweet/salty thing.

Swiss chocolate fudge from The Goldenrod in York Beach, Maine. It's far, far closer to white chocolate than regular fudge- it's a pale tan color with almonds- but not at all very chocolaty which is probably why i like it.

ETA: I just thought of one I really like: Chocolate ice cream sodas, but made with peppermint stick ice cream!

Fast things-
Big Thunder Mountain, Slinky Dog, and 7DMT. These are the only coasters I ride at Disney. TT is OK, but I can only do it once as the outside track portion tends to make me queasy.
Cars. When we were in our early 20s and Rt. 495 around Boston was brand new, we'd take my roommates' cars- either a TransAm or a Camaro, depending on the roommate- out in the wee small hours and open them up on 495, hitting over 100mph just for the heck of it. LOVED that but now I get palpitations thinking about what could have happened. We were young, stupid, invincible.
Take-off on an airplane. I love the feeling of speed and being pushed back into the seat as the plane defies gravity and takes to the air. Physics is pretty cool (just don't make me prove things)!

Evening all,

Fast things:

1. Rides - thinking along the same lines as Slo here but can't pick just a couple, so naming theme park rides in general although these are some of my tops: Tron, Everest, Cosmic Rewind, Hagrid's, Hulk, Stealth, Rita.

2. Cars - probably shouldn't admit to this but I love being able to put my foot down when driving. And while I'm still not 100% sold on electric cars, I do love how quickly mine gets off the line... 🙊

3. Induction hobs - wasn't too sure about these until I moved into my current house, but I love how fast they can get something cooking and to the boil.

Mr Ed
Family TV that I probably didn't understand... but hey how can you not like a talking horse

Silver
The program was on after school so something to watch... such an obedient horse

Smokey... Fred McMurry movie...who isn't inspired by the ending.... thank goodness for the employee who pitched the movie to Budweiser

Trigger
The last memory of the California desert as we drove past the oldest plant on earth and Roy Rogers museum with trigger on his hind legs in a glass enclosure.... Roy fincaially contributed to the dude ranch I spent the first 12 years of my life.....no horse 🐎 🐎 🐎 🐎 on the ranch though.

Brown/chocolate
The frozen yogurt fudge pop I just finished eating
My dark chocolate square that I have with my lunch
My piano

Fast things
Before back and vertigo challenges: roller coasters, especially the Cyclone at Coney Island
How fast my microwave heats things up
Before I became a mom I used to love to drive fast

Today's Topic (Mon, 10/20) - 3 things you're grateful for inspired by the above (take it any direction you want - handwritten things, favorite authors, writing tools... whatever strikes you)

Happy Monday Everyone

#1 - MY 4 COLORED PEN - I’ve always loved this pen. I especially loved it when I kept the official score book for my DD’s softball teams.

#2 - ANYTHING THAT HAS MY LITTLE DD’S HANDWRITING - I love looking at the different things I’ve saved from my girls elementary school days that has their handwriting on it. This time of year there are many holiday things they made which are little stories they wrote, notes to Santa and sweet cards made for me. These are some of my most treasured possessions.

#3 - RECIPES MY GRANDMA WROTE - My grandma didn’t have the greatest handwriting, but you could read it. I have several recipe cards that she wrote out that I love looking at. I miss her everyday.

1. The letters DH and I exchanged in college - I still have them.
2. All the notes, handmade cards, and drawings that my kids made for me growing up.
3. Stationary, notebooks, journals, sketchbooks, etc that catch and hold all the thoughts, stories, prayers and love that may seem trivial to the writer, but become connections to the past and loved ones once they are no longer with us physically, but forever in our hearts.

Happy belated birthday @slo !!!

Chocolate/Brown

1. The homemade frosting I've had sitting in the freezer. I made it for filled cookies back in August. I take it out for a few (ok, sometimes more than a few) bites as a treat now and then. It hits the spot, is rich enough that I usually can't stomach more than a handful of bites, but has also taught me that I can give myself some grace and indulge a bit here and there.
2. Sugar Free chocolate chips - This is the main way I indulge. Fewer calories and a great way for me to spruce up some of the low cal carb friendly vanilla ice cream or even a caramel rice cake.
3. Protein bars - I try to pick flavors that simulate candy bars so I'm getting the mental craving satisfied while getting a major protein boost for 50-100 fewer calories.
Honorable mention- Costco bags of chocolate candy. We need to buy ours. With Halloween being on a Friday this year, I expect lots of kids.

Fast/Horses

1. Our vehicles - No, they're not racecar fast but fast enough to get the job done.
2. Microwaves - Yes, there are things better cooked at longer spans on the stove, in the oven, the slow cooker, etc. but the microwave was revolutionary in speeding up one's cooking game in many situations.
3. Me? - Ok, this is a strange one, but one of the personal goals I've been giving myself is to boost my walking and elliptical speeds so that I'm getting in more mileage in the same timespan. I recently had a walk clock in with an average speed of 4.1 MPH. Considering where I started back in January, this is huge!
*Side note- I'm afraid of horses!

Writing Inspired

1. While I am still bitter that my college advisor was so caught up in being published that he failed to notice that I was one single credit away from qualifying as a writing minor (things I didn't know until after I saw a post grad transcript), all of that writing landed me my first real job. I worked as a corporate writer for nearly 17 years as a result.
2. Handwritten recipes - I don't have a ton of them, but it was one of the treasures we found when going through my FILs stuff back when he passed. We found DH's grandmother's handwritten recipe for her locally famous oatmeal chocolate chip pecan cookies.
3. Notes from the kid - I couldn't save everything, but like most parents, I cherish many of those things we've held onto with their really rough penmanship from their early school years.

Afternoon all,

1. Stephen King - my favourite author and I've grown up reading his books since I was probably far too young to.

2. Books in general - reading is one of my favourite pastimes, and while I don't read as much as I used to, you can't beat escaping into a book you can't put down.

3. Notes app on my phone - technically not writing, but this app is one I use every day to keep notes and ideas written (typed) down. The technological equivalent of a notebook and post it notes.
