Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Happy Friday everyone!

1. IT skills - I'm not by any means a technical master, but I'd say I'm fairly proficient when it comes to technology and computers, especially having worked as a systems technical specialist in the past. And this really comes in handy, apart from people always come to my for help at work 😂

2. Baking - unlike TiggerTrigger cake decorating isn't really my thing (dont seem to have mastered professionally decorating a cake), but I bake a lot of other things quite well and they always go down incredibly well with family, friends & colleagues.

3. Puzzle solving - I'm certainly no Sherlock but i always do well solving puzzles whether on paper or in things like escape rooms or events. Currently have a 100% success rate in escape rooms which I'm a little concerned about breaking!

Good Friday Afternoon!!!

Quickie Answers today because I'm at work.....

#1 - Listening - I'm grateful to have been given the gift of being a good listener.

#2 - Organization - I can't stand being disorganized - it stresses me out

#3 - Cooking - I'm not someone that can just make a dinner up, but I do follow recipes well and the outcome is always really good.

I can do math. Not advanced math, but I'm solid right up thru algebra, so I can figure out almost anything I run into in everyday life. I'm also pretty good at teaching it, which my students appreciate.

I can sew. I don't sew a lot anymore, but I made both of my sisters' as well as my wedding dress, and two bridesmaid dresses for each of their weddings. I worked for years as costume mistress/staff for DD's ballet company. I like making pretty things. I am not as fond of mending and doing alterations, but if I have to, I do, if it's something I can handle. I don't sew a lot anymore, but I used to make all my own clothes in jr. high and high school. I suspect I was the bane of the home ec teacher's existence; while everyone else was struggling to make aprons in 8th grade, I was making a velvet gown for a formal winter event I was attending!

I can cook. I need a solid recipe for baking (which is science) but I can cook meals and such without needing recipes to make what I want... and 9 times out of 10, it tastes just like I'd planned!

Actually, I take pretty good photos :)

OK y’all know I’m gonna say it
Beaches❤️❤️❤️
Sunset - I would say sunrises but most of the time I’m not up to see them even though they are pretty but I enjoy sunset
Mountains they’re just gorgeous I don’t care to climb them but I do enjoy looking at them
Wild Animals I’ve gotten to enjoy several in my yard over the years
Trees I just love trees especially you’re evergreens and palm tree trees

Just 3???? I'll try to keep the list short.
1. Trees- they provide so much to the environment and are just so pretty and majestic!
2. Fresh clean air!
3. Flowers- all kinds- but I especially love when the wild honeysuckle is in bloom. It is so fragrant and sweet!
4. Wildlife- including the birds. I love to hear them chirp and sing and there is nothing like watching a bald eagle soar in the sky.
5. SUNSHINE 🌞! And lots of it. I love the feel of the rays on my skin. I am usually driving to work or at work when the sun comes up, but I do get to see it set most nights. Beautiful, especially over the tree tops. Or the beach!

Birds- Living in a forest, I’m always amazed at the variety we get. I’ve been starting my morning walks before dawn on weekdays and have been running Merlin right at sunrise to hear who is waking up around me. I was really ecstatic to get a Great Horned Owl both Thursday and Friday.

Mountains- From the general visual beauty to the wildlife they sustain, I am always in awe. Add in the mountain glow effect I got to watch at sunset a couple of weeks ago and just WOW!

Wildflowers- I’m not good with plants or landscaping, so I’m particularly fond of it when Mother Nature does her thing and gives us fields of wildflowers.

Western Red cedar
...thyaplicins .. .😂😂😂 Spell check wants me to use the word therapist... anyhow thyaplicins give us therapy in terms of the calming scent of cedar

Cedar trees are illegal to touch in the forest when by issued permanent you venture to cut fallen hemlock trees for firewood... but occasionally we found a fallen cedar and we would cut a few slabs and as a teen I was grateful as it made for easy cutting for kindling and my mom grateful as it made for easy 1970s early morning starting a fire to take the chill off by use of a fireplace... I don't know what holds the gratitude... the ease or fragrance..

Reading boys in the boat... wonderful book about being human.. fantastic reading... cedar trees play an important part in the book

Have I got a fantastic seat for you and the Alpine Glow on mountains...my summer starts in five weeks and because of the southern sun the glow is fantastic... every night I sit in the street and watch

...and for owls we have a large family that rotates in sections per pet population
B. I was really ecstatic to get a Great Horned Owl both Thursday and Friday.

Mountains- From the general visual beauty to the wildlife they sustain, I am always in awe. Add in the mountain glow effect I got to watch at sunset a couple of weeks ago and just WOW!

Today's Topic (Sun 9/14) - "Gratitude Turn-Around" - turn 3 things you might not be grateful for at first into something you are grateful for

ex: Having to do the dishes into being grateful for easy hot water

1. I really hate cooking. It is a huge time suck and I am very tired of doing it every day and wish someone else would at least take turns cooking. But I am grateful that I have the opportunity to take care of my family.
2. My life would be easier if I didn't have to work 40 hours a week, but I am grateful that I have the ability to work and can help provide for my family.
3. Scrubbing the shower is a pain, but at least I can soak in the tub when I'm finished.

Trips to the dentist. I HATE GOING TO THE DENTIST. I had tons of dental work done back in the days of no fluoridated water, no real dental hygiene, and my dentist didn't use novocaine for children, so I had many deep fillings done that were extremely painful. I avoid the dentist at all costs. However, for the past 20 years I have had a dentist who doesn't want me in pain at all, and they'll even use topical for cleanings. They are awesome, very patient with me, and I am less anxious about going. SO... even though I hate the dentist, I've found one who believes in painless dentistry... numb from the belly button up, so I'm grateful for that.

My job. Overall, I like my job about half the time. I am sick of grading ChatGpt generated work, sick of dealing with substandard physical facilities, sick of the department and course politics involved. However, I love to teach. I'd keep this job forever if all I had to do was lecture for an hour, five days a week, instead of counting the days until I retire. As unpleasant as most of my job is, I get to teach for an hour on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and that's a great thing!

Housework. We have a house that is far too large for the two of us, filled with So Much STUFF. I hate looking around and seeing all the surfaces that are covered wtih stuff, knowing that the drawers and closets are bulging. However, I'm working on it, one room at a time, and as much as I hate the sorting, cleaning, and organizing, I love looking at the "finished" rooms and knowing that I've accomplished a couple of goals: Clean, organized spaces, and less junk for DD to have to deal with when we are gone.
