Three Things...Gratitude Thread

California things..

>DD31. She was born in San Francisco. We were living in the city at the time, in the Sunset district (9th and Judah was our stop). I walked up the hill to the hospital when I was in labor, and my sister walked the brand new baby home again, in her stroller. I always refer to DD and a California Girl, and when she was little I used to sing to her- "I found my heart, in San Francisco..." (and jeez, my eyes just filled up, remembering this!)

>Napa/Sonoma Valleys. What beautiful scenery, what delicious wines!

>Driving the Coast Highway, where the mountains meet the sea. Actually, the rugged beauty of the California seacoast is what kept me from being homesick for Maine.

Three people...
>My daughter. Truly a close friend, confidant, and partner in crime. We laugh together, cry together, talk for hours, hang out, visit, and just BE. It makes me so sad when I read about how others' daughters grow distant and disrespectful/nasty when they are in their teens, because that's when we became close, as she grew from being my little girl into being a person in her own right. I have a friends whose sons/daughters have moved to the other side of the country permanently, by choice (not for a job or marriage, etc, just decided to move) and I can't imagine what it must be like, only seeing them once or twice a year. Heck, I'm already struggling with knowing that DD/SIL and the little guy are moving out of our house and into their own in April, and they'll only be 15 minutes down the street!

My friend Angela. Met her here on the DISboards 21 years ago. We have stayed in touch ever since, and she's my best friend, after my sisters. She is my closest confidant. We laugh together, worry together, plan things in our heads, threaten to "garden" our husbands sometimes, cry together. She lives near Philadelphia, I live in northern Maine, so although we don't see each other very much, we have managed to get together maybe 5 times over the years, including overlapping Disney trips. She is an awesome friend and support system, and I love her dearly.

My cousin Eleanor. We are all "older" now on my dad's side of the family, with all our parents/aunts/uncles deceased. We are now the grandparents/parents of the family, and my cousin Eleanor is the one who keeps us tied together. She sends a Cousins Chat every month on messenger as she's centrally located and sees most of us cousins (and many of our offspring and the offspring's offspring), sets up organized our get togethers, be it for lunch or a weekend, and generally makes sure we all stay in touch. I mean... we do. I cherish the relationships I have with my cousins, but Ellie keeps us all in the loop and makes sure we are in physical contact, for hugs and laughs, as often as possible.

2 people I have gotten to know on the DIS - I talk to them every day and they both are very dear to me - I’m so very grateful we were brought together!!

I was very grateful for my Aunt growing up !! She was always so much fun ! She was handicapped but she never let thst stop her one bit !! She died when I was 28 from cancer I’m still sad ☹️

My next door neighbors - such wonderful nice people- he helps me all the time when I’m doing projects around my house - he’s constantly giving me tools and tells me to just keep them - he’s bailed me out of difficult situations several times on projects when I’ve run into problems I can’t handle and won’t let me pay him in any form - says he’s just being neighborly ❤️

My MIL (inspiration for Sunday's topic, because it was her birthday party 🎉) - who is an absolutely wonderful human being and treats me like one of her own kids

My DH's cousin - who came eight hours to be at said birthday party, and is just the sweetest person in general

My DH - who surprised me by putting gas in my car for me this weekend and who works hard to pay for our Disney trips 😆 :smickey:

Good Monday Morning!

#1 - Triscuit Thin Crisps - I just discovered them last year and they are so good. I’m not much of a snacker, so I eat a few with my sandwich for lunch.

#2 - My Deathly Hallows Necklace - It looks like the one Xenophilius Lovegood wore.

#3 - Piece Of Pizza - One of the yummiest triangles

California
DH- He was born in CA.
Honeymoon- I originally wanted to go someplace exotic but we opted for more frugal so we didn't start off with crazy expenses. Most of our honeymoon was in southern California.
Harveys bags- I was introduced to Harveys because of their numerous Disney creations. I was big into Disney Dooney bags for a while (still have somewhere close to 25-30) but there was something really appealing about the seatbelt bags. As the Dooney quality diminished over the years (my early ones are so much better than the newer), Harveys became more desirable to me for their durability. In any event, Harveys originated in SoCal. I haven't bought as many because visually, I prefer their woven bags and they just don't make as many of them these days.

Triangles
Blue Corn Tortilla Chips - I don't know why, but I favor the blue ones when it comes to chips.
Cake/Pie slices - Granted, this all requires a round cake or pie, but I'm just picturing myself cutting in and getting a nice triangular piece with lots of frosting and filling.
Wedge of cheese - Man, I haven't touched the stuff in 3.5 months, but I just got a visual in my mind of cutting into a wheel of brie or camembert and treating myself to a creamy triangular wedge of dairy gold.

The triangle shaped Magna Tiles. Love watching my DGD build with them and they were one of the first shapes she learned.

Just today, I noticed houses that had triangle shaped sections as we were driving home from one of my medical appointments. (We travel this route a lot, so it is a challenge to notice new things!)

I used to love those Laughing Cow cheeses. They were triangles, right?

Triangle....so your hungry...hot...dusty.... the mule going slower under the weight of the plow...when is your wife going to ring the triangle on the porch and yell from the homestead... DINNER!!?!??!

Triangle.... sure would be cool if a child with no music talent could be part of the world stage during school assembly performance

....well. Okay...we used a Briggs and Stratton Rototiller and baby sister came out to tell us dinner was ready and being the tallest in the school did allow me to stand in the back row with triangle held high... memories of the Christmas Hershey kisses commercial

So as I sit and view the tops of 60 🌴 🌴 🌴 🌴 🌴 🌴 🌴...I am grateful that my 3 metal gates have a silhouette of a howling coyote 🐺 🐺 🐺 ... framed in a triangle of metal....all of the other gates on the Lane look like New Orleans square balcony

Today's Topic (Tues, 2/25) - 3 things you're grateful for that are coated with something (it doesn't have to be chocolate, but it can be)

Reese’s peanut butter cups
Chocolate covered almonds❤️❤️
Chocolate covered anything well maybe not anything but chocolate covered nuts fruit chocolate covered chocolate chocolate covered ice cream
Icing on a cake especially if it’s chocolate with peanut butter
Ice cubes covered in coffee that counts doesn’t it???

Good Tuesday Morning

#1 - My Peanut Butter Balls - They are coated in chocolate

#2 - Dairy Queen Dilly Bars (regular ones) - Vanilla Ice Cream coated in chocolate. I always have Dilly Bars in the freezer

#3 - Tonga Toast - Coated in sugar. I can never have to much sugar

Raisinets - Everyone always thinks I'm strange because this is my go-to candy for the movies, but what can I say? I like chocolate covered raisins.

Crack Almonds - OK, it's actually World's Finest Chocolate, but these are so freaking delicious. They are a must anytime anyone's kids are selling them for a fundraiser. They sold out any time we had to sell them. I remember carrying them into work and random people stopping me in elevators and on the catwalk into the office just to buy them. One friend pointed out that a single box is 2-3 servings, which we all hate because if it's in a singular box of that size, it's not going to last for more than one sitting.

Magic Shell - while I like a dipped cone or chocolate covered ice cream treat, I prefer this DIY option so that I can give it an extra thick coating.

Pills.... after my first surgery I couldn't swallow the horse pill sooooo... for the only time I broke it open onto a spoon .... thank you NASA for inventing coating for space capsule and capsule for swallowing unbelievably bad taste medicine

Tide ultra 4-1 oxi pods... just insert the coated liquids ...need I say more

Oregon has a mild climate...so was shocked when I saw desert Arizona asphalt parking lots crumble like a cookie... the corporations that can afford the cost annually add slurry to the surface.. creating a coating to preserve...as well as our massive neighborhood streets coated

Coated aspirin and other medications/viamins that are coated in order to not hurt the stomach.

Breadcrumb coatings, especially on fish (refer back to my fish sticks answer) :)

Back when I could eat it, anything coated with cinnamon sugar, especially Entenmann’s Crumb Cake!

Coated things
Chocolate covered almonds (I have some in my cupboard right now)
Sour coated sweets (like Sour Patch Kids, etc.)
Beignets (especially Mickey-shaped ones) coated in powdered sugar

Thermos Day
Yeti cups - We have several sizes, and at least one gets used every day.
"The Magic Cooler" - We have a small red cooler that whenever we used to take it to parties, we'd somehow end up with an extra drinks we didn't bring. (Like people trying one of ours and leaving two of theirs??) We call it the magic cooler.
Refrigerators in general - I can't imagine how much I'd worry about food safety if we didn't have them!
