Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Merry Christmas Eve Day

Amen Slo about Christmas Eve worship. I will watch online tonight. God willing I will be able to attend church in person next Christmas.

Reading from the Holy Bible Gospel of Luke along with a children's book called Santa's Favorite Story.

Extra special memories with my dear dad.

It's a Wonderful Life - It's our most consistent Christmas Eve tradition. So, shortly before 10pm this evening, I expect to be sobbing like a baby as the movie comes to a close.

Gift Wrapping - Growing up in a dual religion family, Christmas was always a bit different. My paternal grandparents didn't wrap gifts until Christmas Eve and as a child, I never saw a single gift under the tree until Christmas morning. In fact, they didn't get a tree until Christmas Eve. So, in our house, everything is wrapped on Christmas Eve and it's rare for anything to be under the tree before midnight.

Hanukkah/Chanukah Candle Lighting - Tomorrow will mark only the second time in my lifetime that the holiday has coincided with Christmas. As we're getting ready for Christmas dinner tomorrow evening, we'll also be getting ready to light the candles of the menorah for the first time this year.

*Also hoping we keep power tonight and don't have any storm issues. We're expecting strong storms overnight. I really don't want to have to use any of our storm practices/traditions right now.

I am simply grateful we get to celebrate together at all. It’s difficult when people work in hospitality to get everyone together at the same time. Typically we:

Open gifts Christmas Eve

Have lasagna for Christmas dinner

Watch holiday movies Christmas Day

However, we may be doing those things over a random weekend in January if that is when we can all gather together. One year we didn’t get to celebrate Christmas until MLK weekend (at least that gave us a three day weekend to do so :-)). This year my visitors are arriving after dark on Christmas Day and will be here Thursday and Friday to celebrate. That’s as close to the actual holiday as we have been for many years

I hope everyone who celebrated had a nice Christmas!

Today's Topic (12/26) - 3 things you opened yesterday that you're grateful for, or (since today is known as "Boxing Day") 3 things you're grateful for that come in boxes

The sliding back door - I open it frequently and I’m very grateful for it !!!

My dishwasher - I opened it frequently yesterday and I’m grateful it can wash the dishes and I don’t have to !!! All I have to do is put away clean dishes!!! After I open it 🤣🤣

My oven door - I opened and closed it several times yesterday- having spent two years without an oven I’m very grateful for my oven !!

Things that come in boxes :
My dog food order from Chewy
My cat food order from chewy
My Amazon orders
Items Target is out of stock and ship to you
Very grateful these stores have made it so inconvenient for me to shop from home

>I opened my eyes... always a positive, hahaha!
>DH gave me a set of Charlie Brown Christmas dishware: 6 dinner plates, 6 sandwich plates, 6 bowls. I have always wanted Christmas dishes, and these are adorable!
>I tried to open my mind and heart to an unkind Christmas message from one of DH's siblings, but that is something I'm still struggling with.

I hope yesterday was special for each of you, it was for dad and I.

Being as it is morning, of course, two boxed items I am most grateful for are Kroger brand pancake mix along with their Dutch Milk Chocolate Hot Chocolate. Both items we get at Ralphs.

Definitely all deliveries from Amazon, Target, and Walmart, etc.

Kleenex. We use the flat ultra soft boxes along with travel size green boxes and wow do both get used quick around here!

Extra hug dear Lee. I'm sorry that happened to.you my friend. I love the Charlie Brown plates though and would enjoy a picture if you would please take one. I do love Linus especially on A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Thank you, @flyingdumbo127. It is beyond me why politics has to spill over into everything, but it seems it does for this sibling, and it hurts to see the hurt and sadness on DH's face when this sib contacts him. I know you had a wonderful, loving day with your dad, celebrating the birth of your Savior- and thanks for the holiday post card!

Opened my mailbox- I’m actually going back to Christmas Eve night. I realized I forgot to check the mail and DHs new credit card was likely sitting in there (recent fraud situation), so I rushed out. An old friend drove up while I was outside. Not sure I would have seen her had I not gone to check the mail. I even got to see her grand baby😊

Games- DH usually covers stocking and this year he decided to focus on games. Just cheaper versions, but they decided to open Pictionary and we had several rounds of fun games yesterday.

Knife- DH has wanted a replacement to his broken chefs knife for some time, but he prefers a serrated blade…which is not easy to find. I took a chance on a weird looking one id found and it ended up being the biggest hit of his gifts. We were both skeptical, but he raved about it all day.

Things that come in boxes -

Kitty litter refills - I'm grateful I signed up for autoship of this (so I'm not lugging it home from the store)

Coffee pods - we love buying boxes of different flavors

Presents 🎁 - We still have some under the tree here, and family coming on Sunday for the next bit of "stretched Christmas."

Inspired by these pretty paper cut-outs...

Today's Topic (Fri, 12/27) - 3 small household items (ex: the scissors used to make those snowflakes) that you're grateful for

Good Friday Morning

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that Santa was good to you.

#1 - Tiny Wisks - I love these so much, and I use them all the time. I bought some for Katie’s Christmas stocking this year.

#2 - Handheld Can Opener - Very handy when you don’t have a pull tab on a can.

#3 - Scissors - Definitely scissors. You don’t realize how much you use them until you can’t find any in the house, because someone didn’t put them away in the drawer 🙄

Extra hug dear Lee.

Stickers sure can add faith and fun, extra smile to a card.

4oz plastic souflee cups from Smart and Final are so handy. I daily use them to make my own single servings of Sprouts Applesauce from a jar. I prefer the jar applesauce to the store bought pre-packaged cups.

Dad enjoyed his surprise Kinder Joy Christmas egg. He "built," us a tiny reindeer from included pieces.

Scissors I use them every day I can’t believe how much I use them I have a pair in the kitchen I have a pair by my desk I have a pair in the garage I probably have three beers in the garage I have a pair upstairs in my bedroom I have a pair in my bathroom I mean I have them all over my house Because I can’t seem to get anything open anymore I just use scissors

That little rubber thing that you used to open jars I probably have three of those and if they start to look like they’re wearing or not I start looking for a new one the best ones I ever got were from Tupperware I wish I could get some from Tupperware again You can’t imagine how many times I use that just to open jars they’re really great for getting a cork out of a bottle of wine not like a normal bottle of mine I mean like a bottle of Sparkling wine you don’t wanna take somebody’s eye out🤣🤣🤣

Little pairing knives I probably have 30 of these things because you could get them for like a dollar from pampered Chef they’re great for prying things out

I will say I’m about had it with the DIS boards
I am tired of it posting on its own I am tired of it blinking and having what you’re typing disappear I am tired of it saying it can’t load the page I’m just tired of dealing with it! I don’t know what’s going on but whatever it is they need to fix it

So I’m not the only one. It glitches certain ways on my phone and other ways on my computer. Pure luck, but I’ve found a couple of going back and refreshing will recover seemingly lost typing. Still frustrating.

Most of the time I can recover my lost typing it is frustrating but posting on its own that just infuriates me because it doesn’t always let you go back and edit it so that’s what makes me mad and then it just posts things without me having said those things you know it just says things and I’m like I didn’t say that And then it’s posted and then you can’t edit it🙄😡😡 and it’s just on the DIS
But I will say this I use chrome for work and it’s not been working all week and my IT guy when he gets on my computer of course it works perfectly fine and I look like an idiot but it hasn’t been working pretty much all week it just spins and spins and spins but it works fine on my phone for a while and then it just starts acting up I’m pretty much just sick of the Internet🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Household gadgets (for lack of a better term):
>>The small ice cream scoops that you use for portioning batter or cookies. Everything looks so much nicer when they are the same size, and they cook more evenly, too.
>>Round rubber gripper for opening jars. As I get older (ahem...) jars become more difficult to open as my grip isn't as strong. These grippers have always been handy, but now I am extra grateful to have them around!
>>Toothbrushes, first for taking care of my teeth. However, I use them for all sorts of cleaning tasks: Around the edge of the drain on the sink (that groove always catches water and gets gross), for cleaning my jewelry, for cleaning under the top edge of the washer (lint, soap, softener, etc clog up under there and get gross)... all kinds of handy things that that little brush can accomplish!
