Three Things...Gratitude Thread

The workers fixing our roads. We've probably all complained about the delay of road construction, but they're out there in all sorts of heat and cold making things safer for us.

Mail carriers, who do not have it easy right now!

And another vote for first responders!!

EMTs- DD16 was just talking about one of her teacher’s experiences as an EMT. I’ve also known a few. These people come face to face with some unimaginable nightmare scenes. It takes an incredible amount of strength and dedication to keep doing this kind of job.

Police- Obviously, they put their lives on the line in every shift, but I was thinking about one today that was hurt in the line of duty in a way you don’t normally consider. DD18 was trying to get home from college but the interstate was closed because a semi truck crashed into concrete barriers in a construction area with narrow lanes. It’s my top fear the drive to and from OK. In all of this, an officer was out there trying to direct traffic off the highway and ended up falling off of the bridge. It was about a 6-8’ fall, so not a major height, but enough to get hurt and not the first thing you think of with police putting their lives on the line.

Local business donations- we have a number of local businesses that are exceptionally good at helping out local youth groups. It’s everything from sponsorships and spirit nights to allowing kids from certain groups to come onsite to assist their customers and drive additional donations. It might not be a traditional helper, but it’s helpful.

Happy Saturday Friends

#1 - My Relationship With DD21 - I am a BIG kid at heart and so is she. We are the only people we can truly be ourselves with. We laugh and be silly all the time. I can hardly wait for her to be home on Thursday so we can start our Christmas traditions.

#2 - My Childhood - I had a great fun, playful and silly childhood. So many great memories with my girlfriend of 52 years.

#3 - Our Little Otis - He’s silly, he’s playful, he’s naughty, he’s exhausting - LOL! I would have been content with never getting another puppy/dog, but now that he’s here, I’m grateful for the joy he brings us empty nesters. DD21 hates being away from him. She FaceTimes me from where she lives and says…..Hi! I want to see Otis :lmao:

Dad Jokes / or those silly stories all dads seem to know !!! My dad used to do them all the time we would be crying we were laughing so hard !!! I don’t know how they remember all of them !!!

Pranks - it’s always fun to find someone to play good natured pranks on people at work I’ve gotten into prank wars with coworkers several times over the years and also witnessed some really good clever pranks that were hilarious that another coworker pulled on someone else !! Again these are all fun good natured funny pranks nothing mean or malicious I think the best one was completely moving somebody’s desk to a totally different area and then making it like a circus tent 🎪🤣🤣🤣 mine was my whole office area got covered in aluminum foil everything in all my desk draws they dumped the shredders in them🤣🤣🤣 the coworker that I was breaking against I dumped the shredders in his vehicle because he had a sunroof and it was open🤣🤣🤣 his extremely particular but keeping his car immaculately clean !! Trust me when I say this you be picking up pieces of shred forever🤣🤣🤣 btw this is after he dumped the shredder on top of my car that was a huge mess to clean up🤣🤣 luckily I didn’t have a sunroof so none of it got in my car

Board games / cards - I love playing board games or card games it can be great fun when we were kids during the summer we played board games every day and as adults we used to play them every Saturday night we were either playing cards or board games

The resident 8 year old- I never anticipated being involved in raising another child, much less living with one, but here we are, three years into sharing our home with DD, her husband, and his now-8-year-old. The little guy is a lot of work but he is so fun, so funny, so amusing that it makes the stress of parenting again worth it! I love his jokes, his tickles, his snuggles, and laughing with him over all the things a little guy finds funny!

Hanging with my sisters- It's been a loooooong time since the three of us were together, but I am able to visit each of them separately. I love how we have similar senses of humor and laugh at all the same fun, funny things. Sometimes we'll get going on something, and it's just so much fun!

DH's ramblings- He makes me crazy sometimes, as he doesn't always know when to stop, but he is the King of the Dad Joke, as well as twisting things so instead of being just a statement, it'll be something funny. I can't think of a good example, but he still makes me laugh after 40 years together, so that says something!

Dad and I have a toy rubber monkey that is specual to us both especially because we believe God returned it to us. Long story short is this monkey was lost to us for 16 years. God allowed a late close friend of dad's to have a hand in its return exactly when dad especially needed extra peace that indeed his friend was/is by our belief forever with God at peace. Should any of you be interested in more of this story, PM me 🐵

Joy of being at Disneyland. My childhood wasn't always safe or happy. The blessing of having this closer time as an adult with my dear dad now means all the more and that God willing will include a fun Disneyland trip next May::MickeyMo

Kids and puppies :dogdance:at play are such a blessing to behold.

Happy Saturday with a hug to all.

Going with a silly holiday theme…

Holiday specials - They’re not necessarily “bust-a-gut” silly, but I love all of the fun and funny little holiday specials that shaped our childhoods and are family favorites in adulthood. From Lucy sharing that real estate is what she really wants for Christmas and the antics of Heat Miser and Snow Miser to more modern silliness like Olive the Other Reindeer and Prep and Landing.

NOEL/LEON - I think I’ve shared this story before, but year after year, this is one our favorite parts of holiday silliness. One of these years I’m going to find an outdoor decoration like the one that made a preschool ageDD16 question why so many people had “Leon” on their lawns.

Latke Night jokes - One night a year, I turn into a one woman latke making machine. I spend hours pan frying my homemade mixture for the potato pancake classic. It’s usually enough to have latkes for days. That’s great, but the distinctive smell often lives in our house for days as well. I’ve tried baking and air frying, but it’s just not as good. So, we usually have latke smell related jokes for days. Most commonly it’s something like how the smell coincidentally lasts for 8 nights… just like Hanukkah.

Good early morning to all,

Freedom in general and to worship.

I am not a jewelry person. I wear a simple cross necklace. My beloved beautiful grandma enjoyed dressing up including jewelry.

Dad enjoys sweet cake treats at times which makes me happy. My "cake," preference=🥞

Good Monday Morning

#1 - Christmas Season - It truly is my most favorite time of the year.

#2 - My Mom - Her name starts with a C

#3 - Christ - I will always and forever be grateful for Jesus Christ. This time of year is a great time to reflect on that.

Sunday...

Well, I do not own any cats and for as much as I love cake, I am not a big fan of cupcakes (I'll spare you the bulleted list). So, I guess it's pearls and the Bill of Rights.

Pearls - Grateful to own a string that I've already passed to DD18. I also have some pearl earrings that I really like.

Freedoms/Rights - I don't want to hone in on anything specific, but just note how fortunate we are to have them.

Pick a Pearl - I've never done it, but it's a really fun time watching others do it and end up with treasure.

Monday...

Maternal Grandfather - His name began with C.

DD18 - While she goes by her middle name, my maternal grandfather is her namesake for her first name... so another C.

Cookies - Not that I need a house filled with cookies, but glad to have the energy and means to bake them all. Going to do another round next weekend.
