Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Today's Topic (Mon 1/16) - 3 Round Things You're Grateful For

My cat's eyes

Clock and watch faces (although I'm often at odds with the time they communicate! 🤣)

The glass bowls which hold my leftovers/yummy snacks and lunches for work

Bonus: the wheels on my luggage.

Forgot to pop back on in the evening and post my own for round things -

Plates - I have some especially fun ones with Mickey Mouse on them that I love serving meals on.

Pennies - My grandmother was a coin collector, and used to pay me for finding her wheat pennies when I was little. I still look for them and think if her. 💛

Doughnuts - I don't get them often, but when I reeeeeally want one, they are heavenly!

I was extremely happy when the hotel in Canada upgraded me for free on my first ever cruise which was Alaska - I would have taken a pillow and blanket and slept on the floor I was so tired and told her so I just wanted to lay down - wow did I receive an awesome upgrade !! The staff was all so super friendly and helpful would stay again
I’ve received Magical upgrades from Disney over the years (too many to mention ) always grateful - fond ones are opening Magic Kingdom when my DD was little and another was opening Hollywood Brown Derby
I’ve battled my fair share of vendors as that’s part of my job - I’ve discovered fraud more times than I care to mention but one time stands out more than others - my pediatrician - I was having a horrible time with the billing - my ins cks Kept getting lost or misapplied or not applied at all - hmmm - big red flags - I demanded a meeting with the office Mgr who actually ran from me when she saw me coming with all my files - as this issue had been going on for over a year - I got nowhere with office mgr so I informed the Dr I strongly suspected she needed to have her books looked into as I felt her office mgr was embezzling from her - yup I was correct she was ! Sad fact most people pay no attention to what Dr office states they owe they just pay it - I’m not one of those people as I do accounting for a living
It’s really sad how many times in 40 years I’ve discovered fraud in the workplace - only once was it a huge amount - long term fraud involving several coworkers - none went to jail - most quit - couple fired - couple protected and stayed employed ( don’t ask I have no idea why ) but it was large scale fraud - all of it stupid as it’s just not worth it in the long run
Handling money for a living puts you under a microscope - I work currently for people who are very well off - I’ve often told them since I have access to ALL their money you need not worry I won’t steal from you - you don’t have enough money to make me steal ( They have a LOT ) they look at me shocked - I continue - I would have to be able to get to Country that does not extradite to US and disappear and currently you don’t have enough for that !!! 🤣🤣🤣
As I know you would hunt me down and kill me !!! 🤣🤣 it’s a good feeling to know my boss trust me - I’m very proud of this 👍 it’s not money to me it’s just paper as it’s not mine
It’s always nice to resolve issues with vendors - my last one was years ago - we prepaid postage at a job I had for events we did - well yet again I discovered fraud - I had only been at the job a few months but the crazy math the postage company was doing just made no sense - the owner showed up for a meeting and ran from the room after 10 mins because he knew I had figured out what he was doing !
Like I said it amazes me how much of it is out there - no it’s not simple mistakes most of the time it’s someone skimming some small amount of cash into their pocket - it’s not worth it but they do it anyway - so stupid - you get caught - you get taxed on that it’s considered income and you go to jail - all for a few hundred or thousand dollars - lastly my Accounting teacher in college - if you ever embezzle - claim it on your taxes - harder to prosecute you as that is usually how they go after you ! 🤣🤣🤣 I thought wow - that’s your advice ???

Edit to add

I have always said - I am always amazed that I can shell out thousands of dollars to one company and walk away with a smile on my face willing to give them more money and be happy to do it - y’all know who that company is - I’ve had issues in the past and know it’s no problem resolving them unless that issue involves their IT dept then all bets are off - with all their problems I still have hope and I still love Disney because they hold a lot of great memories for me and I hope to make a bunch more ❤️❤️

We received an upgrade to CL at Beach Club in September last year. We were given a two bedroom and were able to share it with our good friends.

Our handyman, Keith in Cape May NJ gives excellent service. He’s a private contractor, and we are most grateful to him for all he has done.

In Dayton OH, a teenage neighbor, Ryan, watched our pet when we were away. He provided excellent care, and one night, spent the night on our couch because he thought Midnight wasn’t feeling well. Ryan has become a good friend now, this is 20 years later. We often hear from him, and look him up when we travel back, which isn’t often enough.

Customer:

1.French Quarter Inn in Charleston - upgraded us to a full suite, champagne, etc. For our anniversary one year. Very expensive, swanky boutique hotel. Highly recommend!

2. Most of my smalll city's staff, including the Commissioner of Revenue when I pointed out their property tax site had a programming error.

3. Walgreens pharmacy staff. I typically hate Walgreens, but Kroger dropped military insurance so switched. Over the top great service! Even when swamped.

Today's Topic (Tues 1/17) - 3 Times You Were/Are Grateful As a Customer

Anytime I get to my Disney World resort and my room is all ready to go. I do an overnight coast-to-coast flight and don't sleep well in vehicles of any kind. Sometimes I get to WDW all charged and ready to roll for the day, others the battery is on E and not budging until I get some shuteye and yet other times, I am raring to go and plummet a few hours in. It is such a relief knowing I have a room to go back to anytime I need it on that first day. I am always grateful for that.

A number of years ago, I had a car accident and insurance sent me a check to cover the damage. I took the car to the shop and used the insurance money to make a payment on a maxed out credit card, intending to charge the car repairs and get bonus points (or money back or whatever incentive I had at the time). After I made the payment, my credit card company lowered my available credit and, consequently, I could no longer pay for the repairs. After explaining my predicament to the repair shop, they allowed me to take my car and pay the bill in installments. I was ever so grateful to them!! They got homemade baked goods along with that final payment and my goodwill forever.

A couple of years ago, I was buying Disney gift cards at a grocery store. The checker was giving me some flack about the amount I wanted to load on the gift cards, etc., perturbing the person who went to the store with me. It was a very fraught situation and ultimately resulted in me getting the gift cards with the amount I wanted. However, once that transaction was complete, I realized the checker and I both forgot about grocery item I also had to purchase. The woman who had been behind us in line, waiting and witnessing the dumpster fire of an interaction I just had, graciously offered to put the item on her tab. I was so astonished and relieved, all my good manners left my head. I never properly thanked that woman but I send her gratitude and good wishes across the miles every so often.

I'm with you on the "amazed that I can shell out thousands of dollars to one company and walk away with a smile on my face willing to give them ore money and be happy to do it". Part of the magic of Disney, as far as I am concerned. I can think of no other corporate entity that can inspire me to part with large sums of money like that.

PollyannaMom, I love that your grandma collected coins! My grandfather did, too. He also worked for a while in a coin shop. Thank you for giving me that memory, too. Hug extra on your grandma!

3 Times You Were/Are Grateful As a Customer

1 Kroger provided excellent customer service once again. Dad was able to use a discount this morning at Ralph's.
2 Cascadian Farms also was so kind to deal with this morning.

3 Biggest time I was grateful as a customer was way back in probably 2017, when a kind angel at Smart and Final on a very hot summer afternoon, insisted on paying for my purchases to be used for church camps.

Wow! I just received exceptional customer service from Walmart on what was to be a birthday gift for my beloved dad in a couple weeks. The shirt I got him is HUGE! As a lot of you know I do stay home due to Covid. The closest Walmart to us is almost an hour away. Dad may be heading out that way within a couple weeks. Not sure how long we would have to return. Anyway, an incredibly kind angel of a customer service agent has arranged for FedEx to pick up for free from us the shirt tomorrow! PLUS, because I had mentioned this was a to be a birthday gift, she is also giving me a promo code for $15 to use for something for my dad. No words just sincere extra thanks to God and for the Angels He sends us, too!

I appreciate when a sales associate is willing to work with me if I have a problem that they are capable of fixing. There are those who will take an extra minute to problem solve and those who just say it can't be done. Those that go above and beyond for their customers are much appreciated by me. I will let their supervisor know. I will write a letter to be placed in their H.R. file.

I'm thankful for my old travel agent who got us upgraded to a high tower room (just below club level) from garden view in the Contemporary back in 2015. The view of Bay Lake was spectacular.

I'm thankful to friendly waiters, and I tip them well.

1) the person ho helped DH with a cancellation the other day - He tried to do it online, messed up, and thought he was out of luck, but she was able to fix it when he called.

2) the cashiers at my favorite grocery store, who are always friendly and take the time to greet and thank their customers

3) the secretaries at our dentist's office, especially one lady who has since retired, but who was there throughout DS's childhood, and was just so sweet!

(Mon 1/16) - 3 Round Things You're Grateful For
1. Wheels! Where would we be without wheels??
2. Balls. Fun as a toy, (who doesn't love watching a toddler who can't quite throw play with a ball??) and sports bring so many people joy, either as spectator or player
3. Cookies

(Tues 1/17) - 3 Times You Were/Are Grateful As a Customer
1. I'll never forget the time I was buying stuff for college and my card was overdrawn. The cashier paid for my items for me. I thanked him in words at the time, but feel like I never really properly thanked him.

2. I had injured my wrist and went to pick up a prescription for pain medication at Walmart. I had a brace on my wrist (right hand/wrist and I'm right hand dominate) and it was bad enough I wanted to take my first dose right away. So I walked over to the water fountain and tried to open the bottle and just couldn't. Tried and tried. So I walked back over to the pharmacy counter and just handed it back to her and almost whimpered "Could you open this for me?" She took one look at me (I'd say a combo of my uh... general lack of physical physique and my wrist brace) said, "Well, that's just not going to work is it? I'm going to put into the system to put your prescriptions in easy open bottles." and then opened it for me.

3. I was flying to see a friend and my flight was delayed. I had a layover in Atlanta, and with my flight delay was going to have like... 10 minutes to make my connecting flight. My original airline couldn't accommodate that, but they booked me with a partnering airline. But that meant I had to now get in THEIR line to check my baggage and get my boarding pass. So I was running to my gate after I got through security (ended up having time to spare) and sat down when another passenger told me I was sitting in her seat. My ticket clearly had the seat I was sitting in on my boarding pass/ticket. She said she'd paid extra for that seat. I knew it was a full flight. So we both get off to try to talk to a gate agent, but were stopped at the connecting gate right after stepping off the plane. The other passenger talks about how she paid extra for that seat while I'm just standing there, shrugging my shoulders as I'm showing them my ticket that also has that seat number. They tell her to go back and sit in that seat. So I say, "So where am I supposed to sit?" and... whoever it was says to the flight attendant, "Just put her in first class." So basically for just being myself and not speaking up/putting up a fight with this other passenger, I got upgraded.

Today is National Customer Service Day, so...

Today's Topic (Tues 1/17) - 3 Times You Were/Are Grateful As a Customer
1. When Disney did the Year of Dreams. We got to walk onto Peter Pan once (full line), and DS got a 'certificate' for riding it for the first time. We got the lanyards twice in HS, with the 'front of line pass' tabs. DH used all his tabs, so I kept his, but we gave away the other three (still had tabs for things like RnR, that DD#2 and I were too chicken, and DS too short, to do) to a couple of families of three that were entering the park as we were leaving for the day. We got an upgrade at the Movie resort (and it was our first trip to WDW) from a standard room to a preferred. Were given free popcorn and Mickey bars (not at the same time) a couple of times.

2. We were at the Halloween party at MK, and got pulled in to a private MnG with Jack Sparrow. There was a line to go in, but we were brought in through a back door, and through some curtains to him. We were in there for...at least 20 minutes, just the four of us. I would swear that was Johnny Depp; either that or WDW did an amazing job finding a dead ringer (sight, sound and mannerisms) for him to play the part! We got pictures, and at the end, the family got a certificate saying we were full fledged pirates.

All that is what really cemented my love for WDW at the time, and is part of the basis of why I'm so disappointed in the direction it has taken.

3. When we went to Belize, I was very nervous about getting food that would be safe for DH to eat. Part of having a transplant means having to alter your dining style...no ice from machines; any deli meats must be heated to kill any bacteria; no pate, sushi, undercooked meats (including steak); raw fruits and veggies must be washed for at least 3 minutes under clean running water; certain foods are off limits due to medications (grapefruit, tumeric, sour orange, pomegrante). The resort we stayed in (link) was very conscientious of his needs, and I really appreciate the effort they put into making his food safe for him.
