Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I am not a fancy person, so I guess I’ll go with plain.
Plain, cotton clothing. Comfortable with a simple design.

Plain vanilla soft serve, no sprinkles :)

My Bagalini bag is pretty much the only one I use. The fanciest thing about it would be its pink lining! It’s gray and basic.

Orange

Syracuse 🍊- self explanatory
Orange County Great Park- We’re playing at some really nice fields in Orange County, CA. The complex even has a giant orange balloon, like the Characters in Flight one in Disney Springs
Halloween decorations-one of my favorites to really make me happy and festive.

Fruit
Tropical fruits- especially passion fruit, pineapple, mango and guava
Melon- honeydew is my favorite
Frozen grapes- a great summer treat

I tend to be more fancy than plain, but I can find appeal in both…depending on the item/situation.

Fancy

Sequined/beaded dresses and gowns - part of why prom and hoco dress shopping with DD17 was so fun is because we both like dresses with some pop.

Designer bags- it’s been a while since I have been able to really treat myself, but every now and then I find a good deal on something vintage.

Metallic stuff- I’m especially fond of gold and bronze. I need to replace my Birkenstocks and part of me is leaning towards basic brown, but my current ones are gold textured I really enjoy them being not plain.

Plain

I see all of these trendy bagel flavors. I love a plain bagel. Yes, I put stuff on it, but plain makes the perfect canvas.

I definitely have my moments where I love loaded ice cream flavors or tons of toppings, but sometimes you just want the simplicity of a plain scoop of vanilla.

When it comes to joggers, I love loud and bright colors, but I like plain white for casual sneakers. They go with everything.

Happy HUMP Day!

I have a few distant cousins that I don’t know, and my girls have no cousins - our family is very small. So I’m going to go with 3 things in my closet I’m grateful for……

#1 - My Disney Purses - My DH has bought for me Dooney & Bourke Disney purses and a Coach Disney purse. I have different ones for different seasons. These purses weren’t cheap and I’m very grateful for each of them.

#2 - My baseball caps - I do love them for days that I don’t want to style my hair. None of them are for baseball teams though, they are Disneys ones, Blackhawks ones and my DD20’s past travel ball team ones.

#3 - Birkenstock sandals - I’m so grateful that my DH surprised me with a pair years ago, because almost all my summer sandals are Birkenstocks now. I have a pair of indoor shoes that are also Birkenstock. I literally wear them all year. I threw away most of my other sandals and own one pair of flip flops (they really aren’t good to wear for any great length of time). I also converted my DD20 to wear Birkenstock too, and 90% of her summer footwear are just Birkenstock. I swear by them, and I thank my DH for getting me started with that.

Happy mid week :)

Dad and I are very grateful to God for our TX cousins. We have also all become closer the last few years which truly has been a blessing.

Grace of God with me always no matter what especially on my recovery journey.

Ability to read and enjoy doing so.

Comfy shoes - I’ve broken my feet way too many times and they now have arthritis so I am all about the comfy shoes I agree with SLO Birkenstock are awesome shoes
I’m currently breaking in a new pair right now ❤️❤️

I am grateful for my peace ! Took me a long time to get it and I’m happy that I have it!!

I’m grateful for my health ! They may not be the best in the world but it could always be a whole lot worse!!! I’m working on making it better - I’m learning to take things one step at a time so I’m not overwhelmed and I’m grateful I can do this !!!

I'm grateful for two of my cousins who currently have the little kids in our family, because I get to be the fun "aunt" figure again. :goodvibes I love sending cool presents and having them over to swim and do activities.

I'm grateful to have a new cousin because another one of my cousins recently got married!

And I'm grateful that DS grew up near his cousins because he's an only child. He's in the "younger set" who were like stair steps and are still close today. - They have a special group chat and meet up to go to concerts and stuff.

I do have a lot of cousins, but none I’m really close with. The ones on my side of the family are generally positive…just not overly close. So I’ll go with general gratitude things.

I’m grateful for the team families around us right now. We’re a big group and it’s such a blessing to have so many of us that work well together when we’re away like this.

I’m grateful for the technology to stay in touch with people when we’re apart…from FaceTime with my parents and DD17 to her being able to use Messenger’s similar capabilities while her boyfriend is in Europe.

This is a really specific one, but I’m grateful when our game recordings have enough bandwidth to stream and this tool called SidelineHD is working. It means I don’t have to sit right on the fence in the sun trying to get game video. It knows when DD15 does something and isolates the clips for me.

1. My kids are close to their cousins, particularly the ones on my side. Middle DD is babysitting the youngest 3 right now. She and youngest DD split up the 3 days a week my sister works. I love that they are close.
2. We see generations of cousins on my dad’s side at a family reunion every August. It is such a fun weekend.
3. My mom’s cousin is my godmother. She was also my mom’s best friend. She was a huge comfort to me during my mom’s illness and death. I have lunch with her every few months and catch up.

Fancy things:
My Crocs. They are the only shoes I can wear, and now I have two SPARKLE pairs; one silver, one gold. Kinda like new friends and old, right?

My hair. I usually use a basic, "normal" hair color (currently dark ash blonde) but occasionally I will lose my mind and put in a purple or aqua wash. It only lasts a few weeks, but I feel pretty stylish and trendy (and young!) during those weeks!

Going to tea at the Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans. We did this a couple of weeks ago while visiting my sister. We get all dressed up and go have a fancy afternoon tea experience, complete with tea sandwiches, pastries, sweets, scones with clotted cream, a pot of tea for each of us, and a swooshy cocktail (or sherry). Smack in the middle of tea, DD30 looked at me and said, "Mum, I feel so FANCY!"

My cousins. It's a long story but we lost touch with my father's side of the family after he died (I was 13, my sibs 10, 5, and 4). He was from a large family and we had a bunch of cousins. We'd all spent much time together- holidays, cookouts, vacations, Sunday dinner, card parties at someone's house (complete with a sleepover), etc. Then my dad died, and even though my aunts tried, my mother managed to drive a wedge into the relationships and we lost touch. It was maybe 15 years ago when one of the cousins randomly contacted my sister, said several of them were going to be in her area, and asked if she wanted to have dinner with them. I went down too (3 hour drive but I wasn't missing this opportunity) and just like that, I have a big family and cousins again! Not only do I have my cousins, but I have their kids, and sometimes their kids' kids! We try to get a whole bunch of us (10? 20?) together for a weekend every year, but also visit each other in smaller numbers, more frequently. It is awesome and amazing, and I am so very, very grateful to have these wonderful people back in my life again. 🩷🩷🩷

I am the oldest of all the cousins on my mom’s side. I used to spend a couple of weeks in CT and PA being a Mom’s helper for my Aunts and loved it! I pretended I was Maria from Sound of Music, teaching them songs. I recorded them on my old reel to reel and took photos. I loved chronicling all our time together. When my mom passed away in March, they were all so supportive and helpful. We mostly keep in touch on FB, but we keep in touch and I love that!

On the flip side, I was on the younger end of my cousins on my dad’s side and have lost touch with all of them. I do have some good memories of hanging out with them when I was young, especially the food (Italian) and the street feasts, especially the fireworks.

Like PollyannaMom, I am very grateful that my DD, who is an only, has such great relationships with her cousins on my husband’s side. (My sister has no children) A couple of them are local and one was like a big sister for her when we moved here from NY years ago. I also got the chance to be the cool Aunt and they still confide in me. A lot to be grateful for.

Today's Topic (Thu, 7/25) - 3 toppings/condiments/dressings you're grateful for (bonus points - what do you love them on?)

Miracle Whip ❤️❤️❤️ - bar b q - hot dogs / hamburgers ( bar b q or not ) all my salads - tuna / macaroni etc I never ever use mayonnaise I don’t care for it - stick with Miracle Whip

Hot Fudge or Choc syrup - of course on ice cream / I like to put a little chocolate syrup on my peanut butter toast then you have chocolate peanut butter toast / bananas / pineapple

Salsa - of course on my chips / my eggs whether they’re scrambled or fried or it’s an egg sandwich / tacos / just about any kind of Mexican food / Chicken / I’ll try salsa just about anything - I get the chunky salsa so you know I’m adding vegetables🤣🤣

Flo's Sauce. It's a spiced onion topping for hot dogs. Flo's is a tiny hot dog shack in York, ME. I believe they still only serve steamed hot dogs, and although they now give you the ketchup/mustard/relish options, for decades (I remember going there 60 years ago... gosh, I'm old) the only option was the Flo's sauce. Best way to have it is sauce with mayo and celery salt. YUM!! You line up, tell 'em how many dogs you want and what toppings, and they had you a steamed dog (with skins!) in a steamed roll, wrapped in a napkin- which is pretty much steamed, too, and kinda part of the experience! About 20 years ago they started selling the sauce, in jars, through local shops- and if you look at the label below, THAT's what Flo's looks like!

Sauteed mushrooms and onions, preferably on burgers.
Pub cheddar sauce on my burger or dog.

Happy Thursday Friends!

#1 - Dill Mustard - I’m in love with it. I use it often on the wraps I make for lunch.

#2 - Mayo - I’ve never been a big Mayo fan until recently. I find it weird how one day you’re not a big fan of a food item and then one day you are. I’m like this with a few other things too. I enjoy pairing my Mayo with the dill mustard - so good!

#3 - Ketchup - I’ve always liked ketchup a lot. I can’t say I love it as much as DD20, who could put a straw in the bottle and drink it - LOL! She’s had a love of ketchup since she was a little girl. Below is a picture of her at Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge when she was 3yrs old. I told her to ask the server for ketchup, because I knew what would happen, and the result was several bottles of ketchup on the table. She was a little scared at first, when all these strangers were putting ketchup on our table and almost started to cry, but then she was ok. Fun memory.

Good Morning:hug:to all.

A "topping," to me is a piece of plastic wrap over a container of applesauce. We buy the jars and make our own plastic little cups. Totally food wise, cream cheese on a bagel. Yep, I'm a very plain eater.

Dad, three of his favorite toppings would include dressing on a salad, seasonings on pizza, or fresh fruit on granola cereal.

Wishing all of dear you a terrific Thursday.
