Three siblings killed getting on school bus

Google here is your friend. Look up murder vs manslaughter. IMO a huge difference betwen a pedi that stalks and kills kids vs a mother who is distracted (note: assuming) and makes a mistake ? so we as tax payers should now pay for her room amd board amd most likely her kids's? Who pays and raises these kids, the state? Or do you also believe in an eye for an eye? So should we put her in front of a firing squad?

She killed 3 kids. 3 beautiful children who will never grow up, never have a chance to have their own families. She took that away because she failed to follow the law on the roadway.
You can google all you want, and cite whatever you want and pull out all dramatic hyperbole you want, but it doesn't change my opinion that she deserves to sit in a jail cell for a very long time for what she did. That's called justice, you can google that too if you don't understand it :teacher:

Hahah! I love how all the “lawyers” come out on threads like this. I’m with you, Hikergirl. She killed 3 children. End of discussion

We could learn a thing or two from Norway about the criminal justice system. Many of the posts in this thread prove it.

I had to google it, but it was an interesting quick read! And makes such good sense! Obviously it works well for their country. Seems like we could at least try it for some inmates and see how it works here.

Maybe because some of us understand humans aren't perfect and are prone to mistakes. And we feel some empathy for the driver. No, this doesn't mean what she did was OK or that she shouldn't be punished at all. But what good will sending her to prison for decades do? It won't bring the children back. I'm willing to wager the driver will ALWAYS remember that day.

Many years ago, I was driving an RV back to work after an all day event for my company. It was night, we were on the interstate, I had one passenger and we were in conversation. I realized I had been cruising in the left lane and moved over to the right. Unfortunately, I did not see the car coming up in my blind spot (I looked, but simply didn't notice them in my mirrors). They tried to speed up, but I still hit them. Their momentum carried them in front of me, they did a 360 spin, then went back down my left side bouncing between me and the bridge side that we had now traveled on to. Obviously I stopped. I honestly had thought I had killed whoever was in the car. The only thing I had to drink that entire day was water. I was not on a cell phone (this was about 20 years ago, so I don't even know if I had a cell). It took one moment of inattention to cause an accident. "There but for the grace of God go I".

The only thing I received a citation for was no proof of insurance (company had it, just didn't have an updated card in the vehicle... I sent a copy in and the citation was dropped).

There would be obvious issues implementing an identical system here but they are proof that such a system works and works well.

Her accident was a direct result of her breaking a law, a law that is specifically in place to protect kids. That accident resulted in the deaths of 3 children. She is being charged for exactly what she did, I'm OK with the maximum sentence for the charges she faces, nothing more. That is what she deserves IMO.
Her punishment (that is what we are talking but here) needs to fit her crime. 3 kids killed.
And no I don't really care about "what good will it do" for her, it is about being punished for what she did to them and their families. It will do them good to know that she has been held accountable, and they are who matter.

How do you know what they want or what would be best for them?

Has anyone said she shouldn't be punished or that she won't be held accountable? Personally, I can see a limited jail time and an extended community service time. I liked the idea PP said about having her speak about that accident... with schools, churches, civic groups, etc. She goes to jail and this will fade from the memories of all but those directly involved fairly quickly. However, if she has to keep talking about it, maybe it will convince some to take extra caution around school buses. You might even save a life (or two).

Maybe I am wrong, but I didn't read it as "what good will it do for her" but what good does it do society or that community?
