So my husband and I were sitting around a few nights ago and he turns to me and says "You know, if things keep going this well, we should be able to go to Disney world for Mardi Gras." This from a man who tells me never to get my hopes up! So needless to say my face was like this :scared1:  :lovestruc

So I have checked the dates, and Mardi Gras 2009 is February 24th. Since they give him Monday and Tuesday off, he would only need to take 3 vacation days and we could go for a week! :dance3:

So as of right now, our tentative dates are Feb 20th - 28th. We plan on checking in on Friday before dinner and just relaxing. Park days will be Sat-Fri... checking out Sat and shopping at DTD before heading home *with the possibility of staying Sat night and adding a day in the parks.

Who are the Pirates and Princess? Dh-26 at time of trip, loves Disney and can't wait to use baby swap to ride EE, DS#1-4 at time of trip, loves Playhouse Disney and wants to meet Winnie the "Who" and the Cars characters, DS#2-2 at time of trip, also loves Playhouse Disney, doesn't like many fast moving rides.

We plan on getting the DDP, not sure which one yet, either the base or the plus. One of the things DH and I love about Disney is the TS restaurants, so it might be a better bargain to get the plus. We also plan on doing the Hoop Dee Doo.

This is the first time all four of us will be at Disney...well almost. Dh, DS#1 and I lived in Kissimee for 4 months after Katrina hit, and I was pregnant with Aiden. This is our first actual vacation there since our belated disneymoon in Feb 2005.

Next week I will be making the first deposit to secure our room at Pop!!!

How exciting! We love POP Century! :)

Can't wait to hear more.

Yes I am from Louisiana. Grew up in Denham Springs and now live in Slidell.

I have never been to WDW any time except the summer. How are the crowds at MG time?

I don't think they are too bad. It depends on which week it falls though. This year it is the week after President's day, so that is good. And it is before March, so Spring Break hasn't started yet. There may be some sports/cheer/dance groups in town, but the last time I went for MG I didn't really notice them. You may run into people you know, as WDW is where many Louisianians go during MG.

we have been during mardi gras week and it was a lot of fun! i'm from mobile so we have mardi gras too and the kids are out the whole week so you will see a lot of la/al people! be sure and take beads to give to the characters! they loved them! we love staying at pop! be sure and take mardi gras clings to put on the window and streamers. we are also going mardi gras week 2009 and 2010. i hate that it's not falling during value season. we saw a lot of the mardi gras striped shirts. everyone was asking us where we got our beads from.
have fun!

Hello again. It has been almost 4 months since I started this thread and almost 3 months since I have updated!

I have started planning, I bought a guide book and am eager to get one more, but I have decided to wait until the 09 edition comes out! I like the Passporter books, because I have the info and a place to do my planning all in one.

I had been searching for prices since the Feb 09 prices came out. I had started to get discouraged. So I weighed my options and decided to join AAA, I like having their benefits for travel(towing, travel insurance, small discounts), and I knew that I could get a discount on the MYW package. If I couldn't get a good enough deal(under my budget) then I was just going to do this vacation a la carte.

So Thursday I called my local AAA agent and gave her my information, she said "I'll check on that and call you back"...so a few hours later she calls back with a GREAT quote. For 2 Adults, 1 Child, and 1 Infant/8 nights at Pop/ 7day MYW ticket w/park hopping/ AND DDP PLUS.......drum roll......$2600! So I have my hotel, tickets, and dinning all for that price! I am so excited. So I booked it and I pay my deposit this week.

In 7 days I need to make my Dinning AVPs. So I am going to start maping out what days we go to what parks and just hope I am right. I know that we are going to be going to the Luau and HDD. I really want to do HDD, and DH really wants to do the Luau. So I think I am just going to book them both!

I have been talking to the boys about going to WDW. DS(4) is getting very excited. I am using this as an opportunity to teach him about saving money. His job is to find change laying around and put it in his and his brother's bank. Of course this backfired when he went to grandma's house and tried to take her change, all the while explaining it was for "Diz-neee"! lol It worked though, she let him have the change, lol. So now I have explained that he can only have the change he finds at home, and no where else...

DS(2) found DS(4)'s Mickey Ears from the last time we were down there...and he love wearing them all around the house

I also bought a new camera. The one we had was almost 4 years old and I was in need of an update. I like it. It take 7.2MP pictures, and I can record video and sound. I wanted something for the trip so I saved giftcards that people had given me and DH or the boys and then it was paid for!

Sorry for the long update, but it has been an exciting week.

Love the fact your son found change at Grandma's!:lmao: Sounds like something mine would do.

Let us know when you get your ADR's!

Ok so I was all excited to call in my ADRs on Sunday, when I read last night that I can't make them until LATE OCTOBER!!!! What the heck? From what I can gather, Disney has picked now to upgrade their reservation system. Right now you can only make ADRs until Jan 25th. After that you can't make them until the system is back up, "sometime in late October"....So IF they open back on schedule, then me and EVERYONE that will be there from Jan 26th-APRIL 28th will have to call whenever they open!!! UGH

Oh, I hope WDW is prepared for all of those calls. My last trip I got such a kick noticing how all of my reservation numbers were about 15 numbers apart, each. That meant at least 15 other people were making reservations same time as me!

Sending you some pixiedust: because if you are like me, you plan the trip around the ADR's.

I do plan around the ADRs. Point blank, my DH and I love food, and we love many different types of food, and where else can you go to one place and get such a wide variety of cuisines?

Well we have a bit of a detour in our quest for Mardi Gras in WDW. Thanks to Gustav we have decided to push our Feb 09 trip back to Sept 09.

I'm glad to know you are safe. Do you have a lot of damage? Waiting out Ike over here now.
