three person rides?

How many (if any) rides at Disneyland and California Adventure are there that fit three people?

I see on the picture of the dumbo ride that it looks like two adults and a child in one elephant. I've always assumed it would have to be one parent and one child like at carnivals and such.

I think it'd be awesome if DH and I were able to ride with DS together instead of in turns. DH saw it too and got a little excited then said it's probably only that one which would be a bit disappointing.

Also some of the bigger rides list a height rate for certain rides and then "single rider" so does that mean that if riding with a parent a shorter child could go on? Our son is about 37-38".

How old is your ds? Are you and dh bigger people? DH and I are pretty normal sized, and dd is a little pixie... I can tell you that we have done lots of rides together... dumbo they tend to put us in 2 elephants... but off the top of my head--haunted mansion, toad, snow white, peter pan, casey jr, buzz... I think pinocchio... and then of course storybook boats, tea cups, fliks flyers and the like are all designed for multiple people.

Well, it may be easier to do it this way... I know we've been split up on astro-orbiter, BTMRR, Pooh (dd crammed in with us when she was 3 though), dumbo... then there are the obvious ones like splash, space, the bugs land bumper cars... the ones that have seats specifically for 2 people.

Depending on your sizes, you might not be split up as much as you think!

Thanks for the reply.

DS is almost 3 and about 38" but on the thin side. DH and I are fairly average I think (I'm 125 and size 7/8 while DH is about 170 although who knows after he has his turkey leg and Monte Cristo ;)

So, pretty much all the "story" type rides (sorry if there's an official name) are the ones we can get on together then. When you split up for the others like dumbo or the small roller coasters do you sit on your own or ride with another person? I think DH and I would feel awkward taking up an entire seat in a little kids ride.

They don't usually stick strangers with you... when you go up they say "how many"... On Screamin they will... but not littler rides, like Pooh & Heimlich, I remember DD and I in front a lot and DH right behind us. So it isn't too bad. I'm bigger than you are, and DH is 6 ft 180... so if we can all fit 3 in a seat for many rides, I am sure you can too.

I hope I am answering this the way you are asking, but no, your son has to make the height requirement to be able to go on those rides that have them. It doesn't matter if he is riding with an adult. The single rider line is for those who don't care about riding with their party or who are on their own. For example, RSR seats 6. If there is a party of 5, they'll take one person from the single rider line to fill the empty seat.

It may feel a bit awkward taking up an entire seat on a "kid" ride, but I say you should still do it. It is fun. It makes you feel like a kid again. Plus, the "single rider" will be able to take great pictures of your DS on the ride!

There are quite a few rides that you can ride with three. My wife and I are average size and have a daughter (6) who is 45" tall. We rode on BTMR, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Pirates, IASW, Little Mermaid, Luigis Flying Tires, RSR, Mater (although this one it was difficult not to squish DD, but she thought it was funny).

First off, don't worry one little tiny bit about taking up two rows if you need or want to. You are a family of 3 and that is fine.

I've never felt awkward at all. There are PLENTY of families with an odd number of people, and it's OK.

Dh and I are slimming down, but I doubt we'll ever feel comfy having all 3 of us in a row on a ride except for Pirates or other rides with bench seating. As we slim down DS is getting bigger (he's not even 8.5 and is already above my shoulder in height!) so it's not changing. When we ride Heimlich's Chew Chew Train, we take 2 rows and it's FINE. Haunted Mansion is wider, but we've never wanted to sit 3 across so we take two. Same with Little Mermaid, etc etc.

Sit how you want to sit. ONLY on rides with Single Rider lines will they seat someone else with you.

I would do one adult and one child on Dumbo, and you'll want to be separate on Buzz and Toy Story so you'll have your own gun. Most of the FL rides seat 4 per vehicle, and they rarely put two groups in the same vehicle, so DH won't take up extra space at all. HM and PP we often squeeze in 4 to a vehicle (I'm thin, DH is not, but my girls are small and HM allows lap sitting - can't remember if PP does...), LM should easily seat all three of you. Autopia is two per car. The only coaster your son is tall enough to ride is Gadget's, which seats two.

I would recommend riding all the rides together (unless the adults want to take turns switching off to ride rides with height requirements). It's just fun, even if you end up in separate vehicles from time to time.

We too found it awkward and a bit odd to see single parents on a dumbo-type ride taking up an elephant sitting taking pictures of their child in another elephant. It was actually something my husband and I always laughed at a bit and we'd never do it. But, at the same time, its Disneyland. Do what you want to do!
