Today Three mobile announced that they are expanding their 'feel at home' service, which in short means that if you are a three mobile customer you won't get charged anything on top of your normal UK costs for text, calls and data!

You can see the press release here. Not sure when it start working but not going till October next year so I guess it will be up and running by then

Just came on to post the same info. Unfortunately your link doesn't work (No idea why DIS won't let you post Three links)
More info here:

Feel At Home is an additional service that lets you use your UK plan allowance or Add-on allowance to call or text the UK, use data in selected destinations abroad and benefit from lower-than-usual roaming rates. This applies to everyone on our network, whatever plan or tariff you have and whether you're using a phone or Mobile Broadband device. If your plan doesn't include call, text or data allowances, we recommend you buy an Add-on to be able to fully enjoy Feel At Home.

You shouldn't need to do anything to benefit from Feel At Home – it should all work automatically as soon as you arrive. However if you've previously bought a Euro Internet Pass, we may have blocked your data roaming to stop you being charged unexpectedly. If this is the case, and you find that you can't use the internet when you enter a country, just follow the link in the text we send you to unblock your internet access.

Don’t forget, not all older devices will work in all countries. If you’re travelling to the USA for example, you’ll need a quad-band device in order to pick up a local network. All devices we currently sell are quad-band. Click here to check which network frequencies your device works on.

Where Feel At Home applies.
You can currently enjoy Feel At Home in the following destinations:

Australia
Austria
Denmark
Hong Kong
Italy
Indonesia
Macau
Republic of Ireland
Sri Lanka
Sweden
USA.
We are working hard to add more destinations to this list and will let you know as soon as we do.

What Feel At Home covers.
Feel At Home means that you can use your UK plan or Add-on allowances to:

call the UK
text the UK
use data on your phone.
If you have Three-to-Three minutes, you’ll also be able to use these to call someone else on Three either in the UK or in the same Feel At Home destination as you.

If you run out of your allowances.
If you go over your plan or Add-on allowances, or are using Pay As You Go credit, you'll be charged at roaming rates that are lower than normal. These rates are:

20p per minute to make calls
7p per text
10p per MB.
It’s always free to receive calls in a Feel At Home destination. Find out about other roaming rates where you're going.

If you run out of your inclusive allowances, and you don't want to be charged roaming rates, you can now use My3 on your device or on Three.co.uk in Feel At Home countries to buy normal UK Add-ons. Depending on which Add-on you choose, you can get additional allowances of calls, texts and/or data. Just visit mobile.three.co.uk/my3 on your phone, or call us free on +44782333330.

If you have a credit limit or zero spending cap, this will still apply while you're in a Feel At Home destination.

Limitations on Feel At Home.
There are some limitations on Feel At Home.

If you're new to Three and have a new Pay Monthly SIM plan with us, you won't be able to use your SIM abroad for the first 30 days of your contract. If you want to use your phone abroad, you'll need to call us after 30 days to activate international roaming.

You can’t use your phone to tether while you're abroad.

If you're on Pay As You Go, depending on your tariff, you may have certain allowances included when you top-up. You can use these as part of Feel At Home. You can also buy Add-ons which give you allowances which can be used as part of Feel At Home. Special roaming rates for calls and texts back to the UK and data use will apply, but is limited to your available credit.

As in any non-UK country, you can’t call personal numbers (070), premium rate numbers beginning 09 and directory services numbers beginning 118. However, calls to numbers beginning 08 will be included in your standard allowances, and then charged at 20p per minute if you go over your allowances.

Feel At Home is designed for UK residents who are customers of Three UK and who are visiting other destinations. If you use Feel At Home exclusively for a full calendar month, at least three times in any 12 month period, we reserve the right to suspend international roaming on your account. This means you wouldn’t be able to use your Three device abroad. Don’t worry, we’d let you know before we did this.

You’ll be able to stream and connect to VPNs while in a Feel At Home destination but both of these will be slower than they are in the UK.

If your plan or Add-on includes all-you-can-eat data, unlimited texts or more than 3000 minutes, when using Feel At Home you’ll only be able to use 25GB of data, 5000 texts to the UK or 3000 minutes of calls to the UK in any one month. We reserve the right to suspend our service if you exceed any of these limits for more than any two months within a twelve month period.
You won’t be able to change your My3 PIN when you're in a Feel At Home destination.

Their press release from this morning:

Three brings Feel At Home to USA

04 December 2013

- USA one of four new fear-free roaming destinations for Three customers.
- Three customers can use their UK data, text and calling allowance while in the USA, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Macau.
- Feel At Home now operates in 11 destinations around the world.

Three is extending its Feel At Home proposition to the USA, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Macau. Feel At Home allows customers to use their UK allowances to use data, text, call home and receive calls from home when abroad in certain countries. Feel At Home now operates in 11 destinations around the world.

Commenting on Feel at Home, Dave Dyson, Chief Executive of Three, said: “We want customers to get the most out of their devices at home or abroad. High roaming charges stop people enjoying their phones while they’re away and Feel At Home is the antidote to that.

“Adding the USA to the mix is great news for our customers and shows our commitment to giving them the best experience in what is a popular destination. We plan to add more countries to the mix soon.”

As part of its quarterly business update Three outlined how popular propositions like Feel At Home and 321 pay-as-you-go helped Three increase its total active customers to 7.8 million - a 9.7% increase since Q3 2012. Three added close to 300,000 net new customers in Q3.

Richard Woodward, Chief Financial Officer, said: “With a strong network foundation in place and a growing brand reputation, we’ve seen another quarter of improving profitability. We have also continued our customer growth in both the contract and prepaid markets through simple and enjoyable propositions like Feel at Home and 321. With nearly 8 million customers now on the Three network this is an excellent platform to continue to grow our financial performance.”

Three also confirmed its 4G rollout plans. From 2nd December, Three started upgrading customers with a 4G-ready device, so they can access the latest high-speed data technology when they are in an area with 4G coverage. This rollout will accelerate in January, with all customers with a compatible device able to access 4G at no extra cost by the end of Q1 2014 when they are in an area with 4G coverage.

Three aims to cover 50 cities with 4G by the end of 2014 and 98% of the population by the end of 2015.

Dave Dyson, said: “We are building a brand and network that encourages and enables customers to enjoy the mobile internet. Customers are using more data than ever on Three, far more than on any other network. As we add 4G capacity to the network, this experience will only get better.”

Wow that's awesome! I am with O2 just now but can upgrade in April. I'd seriously consider changing to three because I'd love to use my phone for data while in Orlando. Interesting, thanks for sharing!

Three have always come up tops with great deals. Sadly the coverage locally for us does not make it a viable option but I'm optimistically (or perhaps delusional :rotfl:) hoping that this will put pressure on the other networks to bring in better deals on roaming. I had looked into the orange roaming prepaid bundle add on but it still worked out quite pricey for the limited usage I would have had from it.

It will be interesting to hear feedback on how this works for users once it is up and running

Have you checked coverage recently?
Oct 2010 Three, Orange & T-Mobile came to an agreement to share their network.
We have been with Three for 3-4 years now, by far the strongest network in our area and rarely have a problem anywhere we go.

If you haven't checked recently I would order a free Pay as you Go and look at what the reception is like.

To be honest I haven't looked for a couple of years now; not since I got DD's phone 18 months ago. It may be worth a look as she's after a new one!

Woo hoo! Wish they'd had that when we were in NYC, but good news for our WDW visit as we're both on 3 :-)

As Wayne says, three entered into a network sharing agreement a while ago. It is just a perception that Three coverage is not as good as their competitors, in actual fact it is at least as good, if not better. I am slightly biased though, as I work for them :-)

I think a lot of complaints are from 2-3+ years ago, now a far better service, just a shame they don't have UK customer service when you ring, thats where the majority of current complaints stem from.

I'm a heavy three user both for business and personal mobiles but god forbid you ever want to leave them!! Google it if you want to see the details.

btab, this is the single biggest problem with people adopting three. My colleagues around me who every couple of years hear me trying to cancel a contract and spending an hour on the phone to India saying over and over "please just let me cancel before I die of loss of will to live", swear they'll never join because of it.

Excellent tariffs and data allowances though!

We have 3 contracts with them, rang last year to cancel one and it wasn't half as badas I expected after the stories on the web. I got the usual, "isn't there another family member who can use it" and other similar comments but just kept saying no, I want to cancel. Maybe I am just used to dealing with car rental agents :rotfl2:
In the end the new deal I had bought wasn't what I expected so rang Three to canel the cancellation.
Not sure they are any worse than the other mobile networks, Vodafone were a nightmare for me.

After reading this thread I've just ordered a new phone from 3 do I have do do anything extra to have the home from home sorted for America as we leave on Sat 14th always been with orange but it's just a fortune each month!

Unfortunately won't be any use to you this trip. If you read post #2 it has this paragraph
"If you're new to Three and have a new Pay Monthly SIM plan with us, you won't be able to use your SIM abroad for the first 30 days of your contract. If you want to use your phone abroad, you'll need to call us after 30 days to activate international roaming."

Great news!!!!! :yay::yay::yay:
We also have three contracts on the 3 network in our third year ( sorry for all the 3's :rotfl2:) and haven't had any coverage/signal problems. Only issue in the early days were regular cold calls from customer services trying to add to your plan. Despite requesting to be removed from the calling list on many occasions, this still continued. After DD recieving them whilst at school, I emailed CEO of 3, David Dyson and since then, have not had any more cold calls! :thumbsup2

Cold calls used to be another problem with them, again seems to be a past problem, not had any for a couple of years now. I think they are a rare company that listens to what customers want.

Thanks Wayne I read it after I posted! That'll teach me to skim read!

I made the mistake of ordering an ipad with Three... The calls spamming me for mobile phone contracts were relentless for the next 18 months!
