My DD12 needs to have her upper lip hair removed. It's dark and very noticeable, and the boys are starting to tease her at school. What are the pros and cons of threading vs waxing, especially at a young age?
I use to get my eyebrows threaded all the time. It really doesn't hurt and its quick. The upper lip is a whole different thing. It really hurts. I just shave mine too.

Easy peasy.
Been there, done that. Teenagers are awful. Especially those of us who are "blessed" with dark hair. I remember doing the bleach thing and it not working. Unfortunately, my mother was not "in the know" about hair removers. My cousin used to make fun of me. Yes, cousin.
Kudos to you, as a mother, wanting to help your child. It is embarassing for a teenger.

I've heard threading is less painful and doesn't cause bumps from ingrown hairs and/or irritation. I personally don't have time to sit for 15-30 minutes to get my brows threaded so I opt for waxing. My friends rave about threading.

Dont do it. I have mine done occasionally. The lady that normally does it had to go home, and I got another lady. This lady asked me if I had tried threading and did I want to try it. OMG. It was horrible. The eyebrows no problem, the upper lip was torture. Think of taking a rubber band and rubbing it across your arm and letting it grab the hair. That upper lip is very painful and my eyes watered the whole time. NEVER AGAIN. Waxing is much less painful.
Also on a side note, my eyebrows haven't been the same since. I have all these little stray hair looking ones that seem to want to stick up. Luckily for me, you can't see my eyebrows because they are so light. I am making an appointment with my old technician so she can make them look normal again.

I get my eyebrows and upper (and sometimes lower) lip done in about 7 minutes.....took longer the time I did waxing. Definitely doesn't cause bumps or irritation on me. Oh, I'm referring to threading. LOL![]()
Waxing is much MORE painful in my case. My eyes water when I get threaded but it doesn't make me bleed or breakout, or make my skin puffy around the threaded area. I much much prefer threading over waxing. I don't get the weird stray hairs either....lol
Just be careful when using Nair and be sure to test the area. I cannot use Nair as it causes my sensitive skin to burn and turn red. And then it doesn't take the hair off either.....lol
I did waxing one time, won't do it again. The girl put the wax on and then ripped it off, my eyelids bled, they were red and puffy for 3-4 days after and it hurt so bad I just about cried. Never ever ever again......
OP I would go with threading, in between visits if I need a touch up I will use tweezers and pluck, I also have a trimmer that I will use to keep the eyebrow hairs shorts and trimmed and yes, I have occasionally used it to shave my lip, not all the time because the hair grows back faster but I have done it a few times when I wanted a quick fix.![]()
