in a thread, does the board accordian replies within the post (like for instance outlook in email does?) sometimes it's hard to follow replies within the thread. Just wondering if I'm missing a setting.

No, posts are just chronologically in order. It can be confusing if someone answers a question from a post that's not the most recent one without quoting the post they are actually responding to.
