I would be happy if our school talked about it with the younger kids. I regularly discuss drug & alcohol use with my DD8. We talk about what it does to your brain and how you make bad decisions and also how it's not healthy for your body. But I think it's good if the school talks about the specific drugs, especially because some parents may not know what the new "in" thing is.

It's a crazy world we live in and kids need to know these things.

Dd14 had a couple of girls start in 4th, a few in 5th, and she started a month before her 12th birthday (in spite of being a skinny minny). She had no idea until I gave her the American Girl book when she turned 10, and was SO MAD at me for not telling her sooner (learned my lesson - all of my kids know that girls get their period).

I know it's possible, that's why the school here normally has that talk in 5th & 6th grade, but I do think that parents should talk to their girls before that age though, but maybe not the school system. Oh, and we have that American Girl book too.

Most of DD's friends have just started this year, and some still have not, including DD. The Dr said that it was normal for girls to start later if they are very athletic, which DD is and so are her friends. They cheer and tumble almost everyday and they run too so this may be why. I had never heard that before though.:confused3
