Thoughts on Sci-Fi?

I'm thinking about adding an ADR for Sci-Fi for our upcoming trip. DH and I ate there back in 2004 and really liked it, but I've been reading some not so good reviews about it lately. :confused3 Every time my little guys look at pictures from our last trip and see pictures of us at Sci-Fi they get all excited and say they want to go there. So now I'm thinking maybe we should give this place a try again. Do you think twin two-year-olds (almost three) would enjoy Sci-Fi?

Do you think I'll even be able to get an ADR for here this close to our trip? We leave the first Saturday in May.

My DS5 loved it! Unfortunately, my little guy (DS2) slept thru it :rotfl: I had to park his stroller next to our car while he slept thru the entire meal.

I think the reason it's hard to get an ADR here is due to the seating. I was stuck with an 11am lunch. Also, don't mention high chairs when booking if you want a car. Ask for a booster seat, they fit in the cars. Otherwise, you'll have to dine at a table for the highchair.

The reviews are very mixed. I think the food is just not consistent. Our burgers were awful, very salty. A friend of mine had the burgers and love them. Said they were the best on property. I don't doubt her one bit, I think the food is just hit or miss.

But you know how dining in WDW with kids is, you go for the whole experience and settle for whatever food you get. Your boys will love it there. My DS5 still talks about dining in a car and watching Tom and Jerry. He's also so proud of his "driver's license" the waitress gave him. :goodvibes

I say go for the kids. I know I'll be going back there on another trip (not this one, DH is not that quick to return there yet :rotfl2:)

1. Everyone always has differing opinions, so try not to let the bad reviews taint your decision too much.
2. If your kids are really excited about going, I would think you owe it to them to at least try right? That's what Disney is all about.
3. We LOVE Sci-Fi. The food is alright (burgers, fries, milkshakes, etc.) but sitting in the car booths under the stars watching the loop of old sci-fi trailers is a lot of fun, definitely a memorable part of each of our trips!
4. It's never too late to try ADRs. The last time we went was 2007 during free dining and managed to get a 1:30pm lunch as a walk-up. I wouldn't recommend this anymore, but I would try calling ASAP to see what you can get, it's worth a shot!

Good luck!

Thanks for your quick responses. I think we may give it a try! Is there anyway we can be guaranteed a car? My little guys don't actually sit in high chairs or boosters, so that wouldn't be a problem. I think sitting in a car is what my boys would enjoy the most.

We really liked Sci-Fi and would absolutely return. Our food was really good too. I had the veggie burger with fries (the fries are REALLY good!), DH had a cheeseburger with bacon and sauteed onions w/fries, my mom had the chili (she raved about it), and my DDs had the pizza (shared) and liked it.
My DH and mom both had milkshakes too and we helped them eat them. They were great!
I had been told to stick with the basics (burgers, fries and milkshakes) and it was all really good. It was fun!

You'll never know until you try to get an ADR! Just Call!

I think you're pretty much guaranteed a car. I wouldn't think that would be a problem.

Most of the tables are in the car format, with 3 rows of 2 seats. If that's what you want, you should have no trouble getting it. :) There are plenty.

We really liked Sci-Fi in 8/08. (Hint--get the burger!) You can eat here fairly cheaply, which is great if you're paying OOP. Your kids will be very entertained by the atmosphere; you will love getting out of the sun and into its cool darkness. If you're on the DDP, you can opt to pay cash for your meal here and use the extra TS toward a signature meal or sit-down breakfast.

Do NOT recommend Sci-Fi for Dinner!!! They were running *far* behind on ADRs and the food was lousy. Lunch reviews seem much better...especially sticking with the burgers.

Sci Fi was ok not the best meal we had at Disney but was good. We really liked it when we went in 2003 but this past January it was just ok. I think it is a.....everyone is different kind of thing. I would not say don't go there by any means. We like the surroundings! However I have to say that my two year old was a little bothered by the movie clips they play because of the monsters on them (they play clips of old scifi movies, which have monsters) So I let her watch the clips with out the "scary" monsters and distracted her when the others would come on. They give kids crayons and paper so that helps! They loop all the clips so you will get an idea after sitting there for a little while what is coming! Go and enjoy!

We ate there this past Oct for the first time and loved it!!!!! Food was good and we had a great time.

I would look at it as an attraction and not just as a restaurant. That changes your perspective about the place. It's a really cool place to eat!

We at at the Sci-Fi last April and honestly it is one of my kids favorite memories from the trip. They loved the light up character that was clipped to the drink cup. I don't really remember the food, but I really remember the experience. I say go for it!

Just got back -- service was awful (though nearby tables fared better with a different server) and the food was mediocre at best. I was very disappointed.

We have 2 DDs (ages 6 & 7) and they were excited about two things: "driving" the car (we let them sit in the front seat) and watching "Tom and Jerry". They complained about the food and the rest of the movies. *sigh* Glad to have eaten here, but we will not return.

As most agree stick to the basics burgers, fries & shakes and you'll be alright. The atmosphere is cool and the kids loved the car and movies.

I agree - we look at it like this too. We LOVE the atmosphere and we usually have decent meals. My kids and well us adults too - LOVE it here!

Sci-Fi is one of our favorite not to be missed places to dine!

BBQ RIBS for me and the hot fudge sundae is to die for. :lovestruc

Love it! My children love it too and want to go back every year. The first time they went they were 1.5 and 4 and did fine!

We really enjoy Sci-Fi (especially my boys 7 & 9). The food is good - not great. The atmosphere is fantastic. We usually stop here for a small meal. The kids get their meals and DH and I share an appetizer or desert. It is a great way to experience it but not pay a fortune for it.
