Thoughts on Renting Out Points

Congrats on booking your cruise! I agree that paying cash is ultimately the most flexible way to go. The hardest part is waiting sooo long for the cruise to happen. I wish the last minute specials were less expensive than booking a year and a half out, but the reality is, the heavily discounted price is usually more than opening day prices. At least you can relax and let your TA keep an eye on that for you. Don't expect the price to go down, though.
Thank you! And, yeah, this was the same conclusion I came to after researching the pricing and chatting about it with my TA. It sounds like it is rarely the case that the pricing comes down and, apparently, Disney uses dynamic pricing on their cruises which can increase prices quite quickly if other rooms get booked. If you're thinking about a cruise 1-2 years from now, the best thing to do is just go ahead and get it locked down.

Yeah I think if Im paying cash I will do a somewhat last minute cruise, they always have decent deals closer to cruise dates. Also I have noticed they release some speciality cruises like Pixar well under a year out. But I am someone who likes to plan last minute anyway. My cruise in April I planned around a year in advance and I already have some regrets.

Speaking of cruises, they keep sending me stuff about the Destiny and im so tempted 🤣🤣 I need to strike gold 🤣🤣

7 nights on the Destiny is what I booked! Seems like a pretty good bet prices on the Destiny sailings aren’t going to be too discounted anytime soon.
Lucky!! Ive been on all of them except Treasure and now Destiny (i dont know if adventure is out yet)

My issue with the cruises is, i wish they went to more places. I am not interested in going to Castaway Cay again and it seems like all of the treasure cruises go there.

I havent looked at where Destiny goes. I dont like short sailings so if its 7 nights or more and goes to other places im def interested. Now im thinking I should cut one of the hotels in april and squeeze in a cruise, going to the website now *sigh*

I could see that after you've been to Disney's private islands - our particular itinerary is doing both Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay, but since it's our first cruise ever, it really appealed to us to do both in the same itinerary.

I love Lookout Cay so much. The water is beautiful, the food is so good, lots of great merchandise, pink sand, just unspoiled beauty.

My family loves Castaway Cay, there's a lot more activities there and it's way more developed, unspoiled beach is more my thing.

I also liked how lookout did the character interactions way better. It was so easy to catch them all in the same place conveniently where they serve lunch right before, in Castaway they're spread out everywhere and harder to catch them all.

They're both gorgeous islands and you're going to have a great time!

I could also see doing an exchange for a last minute thing where you had extra points to burn - but, since I'm planning this particular cruise over a year out, I'm probably back in the camp of thinking about renting some of my points out.
I think one good thing of DVC is an active market for resale and rent. The flexibility and demand make me comfortable to buy into this. I like to keep my points current at this moment (not banking / borrowing, maybe a smaller portion to make trip work but not all) so that I will be able to cancel if unexpected come and be still be able to plan next time. Renting some will help make this happen so I’m not feeling being forced to take a longer vacation / book a bigger room that’s not needed. I’m still new to the whole process, but heard good things from people i know rented before. I think they did with David and said it was easy.

Thats why im comfortable too, lots of demand to stay at Disney, from myself included 🤣🤣.

Seeing my pattern of complete borrowing i just dont see us not wanting to use it one year, quite the opposite, its going to be really hard not to use it and let the points reset!

Im already watching these Jollywood night Christmas ads and getting jealous 🤣🤣

I’m so excited to plan next summer trip where kids can enjoy the water park, we can get the dinning plan promo, one bedroom to do laundry after the pool, and no urgency have to do some rides as we will come back again soon. Then sell it my husband see this is really good and affordable through DVC😀😀😀. I talked myself out many times planning a trip before that because holiday seasons and spring break are more crowded and expensive. If everyone enjoys the summer vacation, then we can come more often even a weekend trip, a Christmas trip, a president day trip lol.

Were going to do the dining plan for the first time ever too, I think it will actually help us save money, being obligated to do quick service daily along with table service rather than leave it up to our own devices 🤣🤣

Its a steal that the kids will get to eat free!

They will enjoy it and youll probably get more points 🤣🤣
