Thoughts on recent Deluxe Dining Plan meals

Just returned from our 5 night stay at Disney. Arrival night we stayed at CSR (we were not on the dining plan this first night). Our package started the next day with BWI, CL plus deluxe dining plan. I know a lot of food. We still enjoy the parks but we do not spend as much time at them as we used to. Now, our vacations are more relaxed. We spend more time at the resorts and of course checking out the restaurants.

We ate at Pepper Market our first night.
Service: good
Food: good
I had the steak fajitas and my son had the chicken barrito (sp?) The food was prepared fresh and hot. We enjoyed our meal.

The Plaza in MK: I have never eaten here before so I was excited to try it. Especially after reading all the great reviews.
Service: good
My son asked if he could have a milkshake as a drink because we were on the deluxe plan and the server said no. It would be considered a dessert. But, at Beaches and Cream he was allowed to have a milkshake as a drink and also was able to order a separate dessert.
Ambience: great, we had a table in the front by the windows.
Food: My son had the cheeseburger/fries/a cream soup-potato, I think, brownie sundae. I had a regular hamburger with lettuce, tomato, etc. no cheese/fries, salad with a raspberry dressing, brownie sundae.
My son thought the soup was really good, he said it tasted like a loaded baked potato. We both thought the fries and sundaes were good. They could have been a little better if the brownies were warmed.

As far as my hamburger, I thought it was dry. My son thought his was okay. I was expecting a little better after all the great reviews. I wasn't a huge fan of the salad. The croutons were like hard little rocks and the dressing was okay if a little bland.

Overall, I thought the Plaza was a nice choice for the MK. I would eat here again but I would probably try something different.

Overall: Okay

Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club: We have eaten here before but this trip we ate here twice.
Service: Good
Food: Great - First visit: My son had onion rings, cheeseburger with blue cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce, milkshake, fries and for dessert, a make your own sundae. I had a regular hamburger, fries, ceasar salad, a make your own sundae with hot fudge and peanut butter.

I thought the hamburgers were great, not dry at all. The ceasar salad is wonderful with the right amount of dressing. I like that the lettuce is slighly shredded. And, the sundaes were wonderful as well. This is a lot of food. On our next visit my son didn't order the milkshake as a drink, way too much (lol)

Second visit to Beaches and Cream: I skipped the hamburger because I knew I wanted to get a No Way Jose Sundae. I ordered a hotdog, ceasar salad. My son got the cheeseburger, fries, ceasar salad and make your own sundae. Again, everything was really good and fresh.

Ambience: Cute and fun. Even though B & C is a small restaurant, we both felt that it what makes is unique. If they enlarged it, that would take away from the charm of a small diner/ice cream shop.

I think the Plaza and B&C are similar because of the sandwiches and dessert selection due to this I would pick B&C over the Plaza as far as the food.

Up next: Yachtsman Steakhouse and Boma for breakfast

Next up: Yachtsman Steakhouse
Service: Good but a little slow. We waited approx. 10-15 min. before the waitress came over. The restaurant was busy though.

Atmosphere: Classy casual

Food: Excellent

My son and I both ordered the 8 ounce filet mignon (medium) for our entree, ceasar salad for appetizers. My son also ordered a side of truffle mac n cheese. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. I had a few bites of the mac n cheese and I probably would have been happy with that as an entree. It was so good but very filling We were both so full that we wanted something light for dessert. We ordered the trio of gelato sundae (the waitress said it was light). It was not small. It included three large scoops of gelato with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. It was good but we couldn't finish it all.

Overall: This was our favorite meal of the trip. We were seated at a nice table by the window overlooking the pool. We tried to eat here again on our last day but I had booked Cape May Cafe Buffet (dinner buffet). We were within the 24 hour time limit so if I cancelled, I would have had to pay a $20.00 cancellation fee. So, we just stayed with Cape May Cafe.

Boma is another restaurant I have been wanting to try. I've read mostly good reviews, so I was excited to try it for my self. I scheduled a breakfast adr.

Service: overall very good - just a little slow waiting for the check.

Atmosphere: Wonderful - I really enjoyed when the drummers came out and walked around the restaurant. I wish they would have played a little longer

Food - Very good - We especially enjoyed the made to order omelets and the breakfast potatoes with the seasoning. There was a nice variety of breakfast items to choose from

The only negative is that since this seems to be a popular restaurant the buffet line got a little busy.

Overall: Very nice for a buffet and I would go again

Flying Fish:

Service: Sweet waitress but service was slow. The restaurant was very busy and there were long stretches between items being brought to the table.

Atmosphere: Nice casual/the lights are adorable with the flying fish

Food: Good to very good

My son and I both ordered the crab cakes for our appetizerand the Duo of NY strip steak/Potato wrapped red snapper for our entrees. We thought the crab cakes were ok. They tasted fine but we couldn't really detect any crab meat. I'm sure it was there but is was so finely shredded that you really didn't notice it.

My steak had a nice flavor but parts of it were a little fatty. The potato wrapped red snapper was cooked nicely and also had a nice flavor but I ordered the red snapper last year and thought the sauce was better then.

Dessert: We both ordered the chocolate indulgence. I thought this was ok. The flavors were very strong. The chocolate gelato almost tasted like eating unsweetened dark chocolate. Halfway through, all the flavors started to blend a little better but overall the chocolate was too overpowering.

Overall, we like Flying Fish but I think the use of bussers would greatly help the servers keep the meal flowing at a nice pace. The waitress had to do it all....drink refills, clear table basically all the things that a busser would normally do.

Overall, the is a nice restaurant and we would return.

Narcoossee's:

We have eaten at Narcoossee's quite a few times and it continues to be a favorite.

Service: Was good. The restaurant has been very busy the last several times we have eaten here. Our waiter was efficient which helped with the meal moving at a nice pace. We did have an approx. 20 minute wait to be seated.

Atmosphere: Nice casual - I was able to view Wishes from our table but I told my son to go out on the balcony to watch. We have been able to view Wishes each time we have eaten here which is a bonus

Food: My son ordered the crab cakes and I opted for the Heirloom Apple Salad. My son enjoyed the crab cakes. I have eaten these on other occasions and they have always been good. I chose the salad because I wanted something less filling. I did not like the salad. The flavors were too bold/strong. I think this is just a personal preference.

Entrees: I ordered the filet migon and my son ordered the surf and turf (lobster tail and filet migon). Both entrees were very good but the mashed potatoes were on the skimpy side. Another spoonful would have been nice.

Dessert: My son ordered the creme brulee. He thought it was good but he was so full, he only ate a small amount. I had the almond crusted cheesecake. It was good but the outside of the cheesecake was a little hard (as if it had been sitting out too long). I order this everytime, so next visit I may have to change it up.

Narcoossee's continues to be a favorite but I'm not sure if we would eat here if not on the dining plan. The prices are super expensive. The crab cake appetizer was $19.00 and there were 2 surf and turf dinners. I believe the entree my son ordered was approx. $68.00 and there other was $72.00.

Captain's Grill - Yacht Club Resort

Service: Excellent - we had a wonderful waitress.

Atmosphere: Nice casual. Not crazy busy because it is a smaller buffet and not a character buffet. Note: There is not an omlet station where a chef makes them to order.

Food: Very good - you can order the buffet or ala carte.

We both got the buffet and my son also ordered the chocolate chip pancakes off the ala carte menu. The buffet was a standard buffet with all the usual breakfast items. Everything was hot and fresh. I particularly enjoyed the bread pudding.

Captain's Grill is a nice option in the area. We were staying at the BWI and it was a good choice for a relaxed breakfast. We would eat here again.



Cape May Cafe Seafood Buffet:

Service: Good - our server kept our table clean by removing plates promptly and was attentive.

Atmosphere: Casual

Food: Not good (IMHO) I know a lot of people enjoy this buffet but we did not care for it at all. We ate here last year and I thought it was ok. Although I didn't eat many crab legs, I thought the sides were pretty good. My son enjoyed the crab legs so he asked to go here again. Since we were on the Deluxe dining plan we had a lot of table service credits to use.

Now, I will admit I am not a huge fan of eating crab legs (too much work and I'm not very good at it). I probably only had one or two and my son didn't rave about them. He had a few more than me.

I thought the sides were below average. I won't name all of them because there are a lot but everything just tasted mass produced with no real quality (soggy and salty - I was desperate so I tried the kids pizza and it was like eating soggy bread. ) and I didn't care for the desserts. I don't think we will eat here again unless there are consistent stellar reviews.

Finally, Boardwalk in Club level food/lounge

This was our second stay at BWI CL and I enjoyed it as much as our first trip last year. The food looks and tastes more upscale than the other CL's we have stayed at although I would like to try GF club level. An example for evening appetizers were small egg rolls, tuna served rare, phyllo dough with spinach, cheese/crackers/dip. The evening desserts are also very good. One night there were mini pecan pies, brownies, baklava, etc. Everything was displayed beautifully and tasted wonderful. And, as others have stated, the CM's are truly friendly and always eager to engage in conversation and answer questions. I would definitely love to stay here again

I really enjoy doing the deluxe dining plan. Although it is a lot of food, we like the signature restaurants so it works for us.

I really enjoy doing the deluxe dining plan. Although it is a lot of food, we like the signature restaurants so it works for us.

Thanks for your reviews! We also did DxDP, and Yachtsman was BY FAR our best experience and most delicious meal of our trip. Ooooh that Mac & Cheese!! We were hesitant to try it due to mixed reviews, but it seems like they are at the top of their game right now. We can't wait to go back there!
