Thoughts on Mama Melrosa's

So, if I book dinner at Mama Melrosa's, how does the Fantasmic package work? Will I be able to book the package if we are on the dining plan?

Yep, you can book the Fantasmic package and it is included on the DDP, plus you even get appetizers (that are not included in the regular DDP) when you book the package! :goodvibes

After dinner your waitress/waiter will give you a Fantasmic voucher and tell you where to go and what time. The Fantasmic package entrance is different from the regular Fantasmic entrance, it is near the front of the park near Oscar's.

I just read on another thread that the "entrance" for the Fantasmic package is now the same as the regular entrance. The only thing is when you enter the arena, they show you to the right where the reserved seats are. This happened just last week.

Thanks. I hadn't heard that one yet. I guess we'll find out for sure in 6 weeks!!! :cool1:

So, when I book Mama Melrosa's, I just tell them I want the Fantasmic package? Funny, we've been to WDW soooo many times and I have never booked one of these packages.

Man, I wish they'd hurry up and post the May and June park hours so I'll know what time to book our dinner!

We went in Sept and had a horrible meal at Mama Melrose. We have sworn we will never go again. The food choices at DHS are horrible IMHO. We are going to try Sci-Fi and see what happens next week!

We ate there last May and thought the food was really good, but the service was slow. Then we just ate there in January and the food was just okay, and the service was a little better.

Sorry, I'm sure that doesn't help much!

We will probably skip it next time and go back to Sci-Fi instead.

My 11 year old son would rather eat at Sci-Fi but we've eaten there three years in a row. So, we want to try something new. My first thought was we could eat there and do the Fantasmic package. But, after reading your trip report, I wonder if the Fantasmic package is worth anything extra any more.

Well maybe they will add on more showings of Fantasmic by the time you go! :wizard:

If you have eaten at Sci-Fi the last 3 times, I would definitely give MM a try for something different. Maybe you'll love it! You never know until you try something.

We ate there for free dining back at the end of Sept 2008 and I thought it was pretty decent food! especially for TS at DHS.
There were 12 of us in our party so the service seemed slow but nothing out of the ordinary for our party size. The food was really good and I would not hesitate to go there again....
We have eaten at 50's and Sci-fi a few times and are ready to give those up...they are NOT GOOD....with the limited choices at DHS, I would either eat at MM or plan to leave for a dinner at a nearby resort.

We ate there last August - a party of 5 - and had decent service and decent food. This was the second time we ate at MM's and we'll probably eat there again this August. We've tried most of the restaurants at "MGM" and quite enjoy MM's. What did we have? Both times there were the pepperoni flatbreads, chicken parm, and the eggplant thingie.

We were there July 2008 and February 2009 and loved it.

In July 2008 there were 12 of us and everyone was happy with their meal.
I had the spaghetti with the seafood that trip and had the chicken parm in February. I think we had almost everything on the menu and everyone enjoyed it. I had the lemon sugar free dessert and it was delicious.

We'll be going back in July.

We do MM every year and have great reviews. One thing that definitely keeps us coming back?? The Sangria, just wonderful, the first year we had it, the waiter even gave us the recipe. I make it every year in July for our summer party. I have never had an issue with the food, we also have the recipe for the sun dried tomato spread which is very yummy. My kids always want to go to the sci fi and we say no, this year we are doing the DDP and will do both.

We had lunch at MM's on our January trip. We didn't originally have an ADR for this meal, but we wanted to have a special lunch on our last day at Disney (we left early the next morning :sad1:). So I called the night before and was easily able to get a 12:10 reservation. :thumbsup2

Food was very good, we thought. Service was EXCELLENT!! We had a wonderful server named Kat who was just a darling, and went out of her way to make the meal a special one.

She convinced me to get one of these drinks.....accepted as a beverage on the DDP, and non-alcholic but soooooo sweet I almost died of sugar overload:

DS had the flatbread, while DH and I both had the chicken parmesan. All very, very yummy! :thumbsup2 (sorry, no pics of the food...:guilty:)

The trip was in honour of our son's 13th birthday, and our server went totally out of her way to make him feel like a star. She doubled his dessert, and brought it out on a decorated tray while singing happy birthday to him:

She also gave him a commemorative certificate, and a card signed by EVERY member of the Mama Melrose staff:

We very much enjoyed the atmosphere here too. Quite relaxing.

Cool mini-review!

We've eaten there about 6 times; it's been hit or miss with attentive service at times and other times not so much.

IMO, the food is not as good as what I'd expect at an Olive Garden or other chain. Very expensive for actual quality. But other than Brown Derby, we regard it as the only passable restaurant at what I still think of as MGM.

We went there two years ago and the waitress got two of the orders completely wrong. I ordered steak and she gave me pork. I forgot what my wife ordered, but she got something completely different.

The waitress did realize she made a mistake and offered to take them back, but we didn't want to hold up the rest of our party. However, we did enjoy our meals, so it was all good.

In New York city where I come from they automatically would take something off the bill or give you dessert on the house for the inconvenience. However, we didn't get any sort of compensation for the foul up. I wasn't looking for a freebie, but the gesture would have made me feel good.

I was surprised how much I liked the food there. I would definitely go back. The atmosphere did not knock my socks-off like the Sci-fi did, but it was a nice place.
