Thoughts on Downtown Disney?

We will be returning to Disney with 3 grandkids ( 5,8,10)in October. We have never been to Downtown Disney before because I've worried it's just a crazy packed scene with just tons of things to entice kids to have meltdowns because you won't buy them one more thing. Am I correct? Am I missing anything fun?

I guess it depends on how they handle walking through any Disney souvenir shop.

With a plan for regular snacks and/or dining, it can be OK if they normally don't melt down in a store.

I usually get stuck at the Lego store with the boys while DW shops.
