Thoughts on doing 1/2 marathons one week apart?

Just wondering if anyone has done this before? There are two 1/2's that I really want to do in March 2009 and they are one week apart. 1st is The Gasparilla 1/2 in Tampa (no required pace for the 1/2, finish line is open for 7 hours) and the Princess 1/2 at Disney the following week.

Any thoughts would be helpful! :)

I'm not sure that I'd look to P.R. in both but I see no reason that you can't do both at an 80 or 90% of P.R. pace. I don't start alternating long run weekends in marathon build up until I get to about 16 miles. Using that theory it would be like you were building up.

If my schedule permitted, I'd run a race every weekend. Good luck!

I'm in the middle of doing that right now. I ran the Disneyland half on Sunday and this Saturday I'm running the Big Bear Half Marathon. I've never done back to back weekends of halfs but I think I will be fine. I usually do my training long runs on weekends anyways so, it shouldn't be too much different for me. Good luck to you with your decision.

I was just thinking that I feel so great right now, I could probably run another 1/2...I was seriously considering the Inland Empire 1/2 that's coming up on 9/14...I could do it...right? lol

I'm probably a terrible example, but last year I did the Tallahasee half 2/4, the Pensacola half 2/18, the New Orleans half 2/25, the Albany half 3/3, and the Seaside half 3/4. I just happen to love racing... :confused3 A race beats a lonely long run any day! Go for it!

Amy,

I think it's great you're considering doing two half marathons. If you don't think it's unrealistic I say absolutely, go for it!! You could always do the first one and see how you feel before actually doing the second.

Good luck.
Cindy

Thanks so much for everyone's thoughts on this! I'll probably end up trying to do both! :yay: The gasparilla 1/2 is for all intents and purposes in my back yard, so I really need to try and do that one. I think I'll be able to get some friends to at least walk that one with me, and then I'll do my intervals for the the princess. Must have more bling!

Matt :worship: :worship: for doing all those races so close together!!

Yay for you and anyone else doing multiples!
:worship:
Matt, :worship: :scared1: You really are a machine. We know that!

Amy, I'm thinking about doing the Princess which will be a week before another half that I already have planned. :scared:

I had recently asked my PT a similar question and he said it really depends on the person and their recovery time. He said some people are okay running races every week while other people are down for a month afterwards.

I want to do a 10K two weeks after my half at the end of the month and wanted to check with him before I forked over money for registration fees :)

Matt belongs in Panda Dave's YARC Club "You Ain't right". LOL, I agree with your self assessment.

I would limit my half's to one a month, if I were racing that much.
