We just returned from our week long vacation in the cabins at Fort Wilderness and loved it! If anything below is negative, please note that our overall experience was very positive and we can't say enough great things about our time there.

1. Bring your own coffee and flat-bottomed filters. They give you little individual packs of coffee, but they go to the tiny coffee makers usually found in hotel rooms, and the coffee makers in the cabins are full size.

2. The pull-down bed in the living room is the most comfortable bed in the cabin! We fought over it.

3. We were a group of 6- my mom, my husband (6,4", 280 lbs.), me (no small tater), and my three girls- 4, 6, and 8. We all fit nice and comfy in the cabin. Bunk beds are very sturdy. We would definitely do it again.

4. The 2600 loop was perfect! We were the second bus stop, so we were never on very long AND it's on both the orange and purple lines. We never waited more than 10 min. for a bus internally. Not true for my husband who got stranded at the 1200 loop trying to get back to the playground to retrieve a souvenir bag. A van finally came and picked him up. PLUS, we were right across the street from the quiet pool. 2600 is the way to go.

5. We found a Jurassic cockroach under our coffee maker- no biggie. You gotta expect run ins with nature when camping, right?

6. Tinker Bell visited our cabin several times and hung out with my girls' lovies. We came to find them in bed with the remote, reading the newspaper, having a tea party. It was great! The girls couldn't wait to come home and see what Tinker Bell had done. Since we couldn't bring Sherman, our Christmas elf, this was the next best thing.

7. You might think that being on the front row at Hoop Dee Doo is best, but the table in the center of the room got the most attention. Just sayin'.

8. You get more towels than you can possibly use! Look in the cabinet under the bathroom sink.

9. We decorated our deck with Christmas lights to help the kids identify our cabin in the dark. It was also festive. There is an electrical outlet on the deck, but you'll still need an extension cord.

10. The cabins have a front door and back door. Which was good, because our door handle broke, and we couldn't get out. When you put in a work order (we did twice), it gets fixed almost immediately.

We say this is our last Disney vaca for a while, but we're lyin'. Hopefully, we'll be back some day (soon)... : )

Awesome to hear! we booked one yesterday. We have friends coming to join us so I thought this would be best. I'm glad we can decorate-I plan to bring white lights and stuff.
Quick question-did you need a golf cart? I dont have one reserved, my hubby aid we dont need one but all the reviews I read say its a must...any thoughts?

We enjoyed the resort for a week, and there were TONS of decorated golf carts. We enjoyed seeing the variety, but even with our little ones in tow, at no point did we say, "Man, we should have rented a golf cart."

Plus, several times, we saw young people who probably shouldn't have been driving, especially with even younger people in the cart, driving erratically and out of control. One time, the young teenagers almost flipped in front of a crowded bus stop. Everyone just shook their heads. There are resort security patrolling, though. That's just what we saw.

I dunno, Rovang Gang. My wife and daughter can go through a LOT of towels. There is no such thing as "more than you can possibly use." ;)

A golf cart is a "nice-to-have" but not a "got-to-have" IMHO.

We just got back from the cabins, I vote yes to the golf cart. It made it so nice for going to the pool, marina and just about everywhere. Have a great time we loved it!

Sounds great!! We arrive in 24 days. Glad to hear you were all comfy. Hubby and I intend on taking the pull down bed DD18 the double and DD15 &13 will share the bunks.

I thought 2100 would be the way to go as it's closer to main area. But the thing that sells me on it is that it's near laundry and bathroom facilities. With 3 teenage DD's and 1 bathroom someone (DH :thumbsup2) might have to make the trek if we want to get to the parks at rope drop.

Also no golf cart for us. Walking and catching the bus will be fine by us. When I look at the distances DH walks further to the train station every morning.

Also thanks for the heads up about the coffee filters. Will add them to my shopping list.

:goodvibes

Concur on all your opinions! We were in the 2600 loop last week, too. It was a great time.

My thoughts on renting a golf cart... we rented one 2 years ago and again this year. They are FUN! But not necessary. I'm not sure if I'd rent on again. (We rented from Kenny at a good price, but its still expensive "per ride" if you add it up). Give yourself extra time and the buses work out great for getting to/from the parks. They were always around.

If you want to sight see, you can always rent a cart for a day. Or just bus down to the settlement area and walk around from there to see some of the displays.
