Thoughts on Boma....

We are are thinking about going to Boma for dinner one night. We have two boys, ages 3 and 4. One is a picky eater. Our other PS's are: Chef Mickey's, Whispering Canyon Cafe, and Crystal Palace. Should we eat here or do you have a better suggestion?

Honestly, with kids that age, I would bypass Boma's for dinner. We ate there on our last trip and enjoyed it (quite different, but not too different, if you get what I mean). I know that there will be people that will say their kids loved it and whatnot, but with kids that age (and for the price of Boma), you might as well do another character dinner/breakfast. Either that or try Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater at MGM for lunch.

We're going next week with a boy who's about to turn 4. Boma was, in fact, one of the places we made a point of making ressies for because we wanted to show him the animals at AKL.

We did Boma last year with our 3 yr old. They had the typical kid stuff so she was fine. She loved the desserts. We made the mistake of going outside to look at the animals before we ate so we had to drag her in when it was time to eat. Our waitress was wonderful with her.

I'd pass on Boma. The choices for children are minimal at best.

We went last year when our boys were 6 and 4. They have the typical kids food on the buffet for them. I believe they had mac and cheese and spag. and meatballs etc. They ate really well there and they also liked the desserts.

My DS had his 5th bd dinner at Boma. He loved the choices both on the "kids" pod and the more unconventional pods too! Last night he requested to go back to Boma on our next trip. I am not sure how much variety a 3 or 4 year old needs but they had chicken strips, spaghetti and meatballs, mac n cheese, fresh fruits and yummy desserts for "picky" eaters. Surprisingly, my DS loved the Durban spiced Chicken better than the strips.

My girls (now 9 and 6) have been going for a while now. My youngest is a very picky eater and she enjoyed the prime rib (she calls it steak) and some foods from the kids section. We love it. The chefs are very nice.

I think there are some photos on allearsnet.com that will give you an idea of what the "pods" are like but there is more food than what those photos show.

I would try Boma rather than another character meal. We tend to get tired of them after a couple and you can see most characters in the parks for free (Toontown has better interaction than most meals do IMHO) The character meals kids section are pretty much the same as Boma's. If your kids will eat from those they will eat there as well.

It worked for my teen DSs but they are tremendously adventurous eaters!

If your kids like the standard kid offerings at a buffet, they will probably be satisfied. Certainly they will not be hungry! The fresh fruit, strawberries, pineapple, melon, should be very appealing to them.

Boma is a destination that goes beyond the dining experience. AKL is a great resort to visit. It is certainly out of the ordinary. I think your children would enjoy another restaurant more BUT the whole experience of AKL is special. And certainly you have a good variety of kid-pleasing restaurants selected already!

My DD now 5 ate there when she was 3 and loved the food. She was a vegetarian at the time and loved their flat bread with their different hummus dips. Plus she had lots of their fresh fruits. As others have posted they do have spaghetti, mac n cheese etc. in addtition to their other selections. DH and I loved the tastes of the foods here. DD also liked the dessert selctions too.

My dd is now 12. She loves Boma and insists on going there every single time we go to WDW. She eats only the chicken strips/fingers, mac and cheese, pizza though. She has never gone away hungry. She just loves it there. It's one of the few restuarants that we all love. and then to go outside and just wander around the resort is so wonderful.

It was my 5 and 7 daughters' favorite meal! My 2 yo twins like it too and we loved checking out the AKL. Since you are doing other character meals, I think it's great to head someplace different that you all can enjoy. Have fun!

Our 4 and 8 year old boys loved their dinner there last week. Breakfast is great at Boma too.

Boma is fabulous!! the Lodge is an experience, and so is the food. There are tons of selections for children with prime rib as well. We never miss it!! My 7 yr. old loves the zebra domes, which are worth (along with the soups) the visit!!

Try it. There are enough conventional offerings to satisfy most people and it's a nice place to eat. Don't miss the activities going on in the lodge - they have a board as you enter near the bell station that will tell you what is happening for children, such as storytelling, animal viewings at sunset, and other stuff. The lodge is very impressive and beautiful. You will enjoy more then the food.

We found it very disappointing. After the rave reviews we were expecting exceptional and got "good buffet food." The desserts were particularly disappointing to me.

I'm not a big fan of buffets, and I'm less of a fan of buffets when the kids aren't old enough to handle their own plates. I spent a lot of time at Boma and Biergarten when my kids were 4 and 5 getting up and down for either seconds of something, or to hunt for something more appealling to my picky eaters. I'd much rather sit through my meals and give my kids the one choice they order (my kids have always been overwhelmed with choices at a buffet - and convinced that they picked the wrong thing but that Mom will go get them something better).

The lodge is incredible, but it is also out of the way. If you don't have a car, this can be a hard meal to get to if you want to leave and return to your resort. (Most resort to resort travel is like that).

I took my kids a year in October 2003 DS had just turned 4 and DD was 2.5 at the time. I knew they would like it because their father is Moroccan and though it is a mostly Southern African theme to the food there is some Northern African accents. They also love the kids selection. The night we were there they had couscous so the kids were very happy. I actually choose that place because we were with my hubby's cousin and I thought she would enjoy dishes that were a little more familiar to her then normal American food.



There is plenty for your kids to eat even if they don't eat anything other than the kids selection and the fruits and desserts. Try to time the meal so you can make the storyteller at the fire pit either before or after your meal. You can go to the savanna outlooks after dinner. My kids loved that!

This was one of our favs! DD7, DD6, DS4 all loved it. DD7 told the chef she wished they had ribs (she's rather bold) and he told her to give him a few min. and later, he brought out enough ribs to feed an army!! Way above and beyond, esp. when there were lots of choices.

I have to agree with the majority. Boma has a fair amount of "kid friendly" food for the kids and amazing food for the grown-ups!!
