Thoughts about the baggage check from a 7 year old

On Saturday as we were leaving Disneyland, my daughter asked why they don't check your bags as you leave the esplanade area. I told her it was because they don't care what you take out, they are just looking to see what you are bringing in. I never even mentioned what type of items they may be looking for. She then replies. Well, if someone hides a gun in their sock, they won't find it because they don't look there, only in your bags.

Okay, apparently a 7 year old has figured out that the bag checks are more of a waste of time than do any good. I don't mind them looking for items that shouldn't be taken in, but if you know the only place they will look is a brief glance in your bag, you just have to put them someplace they won't be looking. So the only ones that have any trouble are the ones that don't realize that disney doesn't allow items such as glass bottles, as opposed to someone that really wanted to do any harm.

Typo, I had typed shoe, then realized that she actually said sock not shoe, when I changed the e to a ck, i forgot to delete the h.

thats where she is wrong, but still a good thinker :)

Metal detectors, shoes going through the x-ray machine... its too hard...

but i mean, if your want to shoot up an airport, just go steal a cop's gun. If you want to blow up a plane, get a job there? Soo many ways around security... its pretty pointless...

esp when now you cant bring liquid... its crazy! i just :moped: my way around ^_^

At our local amusement park -- Canada's Wonderland -- we have a bag check followed by walking through a metal detector. I just assumed Disney did this as well :confused3

If you want to be stuck in a security 2 hour line, then a 1 hour ticket line, then a 30 min enterance line, then they just might do that...

i think its just waaaaay too many people going in... to think about Veterans Day, 75,000 people going in within 5 hours... not to mention Cast Members which is a anoter 10,000 people.

EDIT: Sorry, im thinkin of airports, not Disneyland... but carrying a gun into Disneyland... is like being on a football field during a game with a gun... there are soooo many people vs. you, and i wouldnt want to pay $83 just to go shoot someone in Disneyland XD

Yup honestly I think its awesome that they do a check, but they DEFINATELY need a way better system then what they have already. Its horrible. When a 7 year old can figure out how bad it is, then it must be bad.

Truth be told, they aren't even looking for weapons, but glass containers and alcohol. If they were looking for weapons, they'd have metal detectors and trained security looking through the bags. Anyone who'd really be going in to cause trouble would have the weapon on their person. Though during colder weather, they often have you unzip heavy jackets.

yea, they got a huge ammount of K-9 units walking the park.

Yep. I vote that they are more interested in glass bottles then weapons.

My DH wears a pocket knife. He wears it EVERYDAY and sometimes forgets to take it off when we go to DL. Never once has a bag checker said a thing, though gate CMs have made him get rid of it.
