Thought we were going to have to cancel

We own an apartment house... 2 1bd apartments that gives us $285 per week, which is why I am lucky enough to stay home. Well 2 of the tenants (2 guys share...1 lives in the other) told us 2 weeks ago they *might* be moving out come September. Great, plenty of notice... but its a *might*... there goes $165 per week. A huge hit to our pocketbook. So our first thought is "we have to cancel Disney". I was so upset and the kids were too. We are staying offsite at a condo for $475 for the full 2 weeks. I have only paid for the $200 deposit that I have until August 3rd to cancel or pay the rest. So I figure its already money spent, lets leave it alone until we have to pay or cancel. So I decided to start making up some nursery items (ceiling fans, clocks, wood wall hangings, etc) to sell on ebay. Well its taken off! I have made $700 so far, of that, $450 is profit. So we have the condo paid for. And I am not even done! I have $100 in bids still up right now! Then with the Bush tax cut and the child tax credit of $400 that is our 2 week mini van rental. Now, if airfare doesnt come down we will probably either take the train (we have 6 of us plus my dad) or drive from CT. But, I am hoping I can keep selling at this rate and have the $1000 for the airfare as well. Then the food and tickets can come out of our savings account. DH was just leary of taking out $2000 out of our savings when we are losing $165 a week for rent! I just wanted to say what a good thing ebay can be and how excited I am that we are going!! If it turns out I can't do Disney the 10 days that I planned on, at least we have money for the hotel and a rental care (could rent it from here) and I will get a 2 week vacation. But so far so good! I just had to share my happiness with other Dis'ers since I know you all must understand how hard it is to have to cancel a Disney trip...But I would have totally understood if we did have to... having a house is always more important than a vacation that can always be re-scheduled! ~STeph

Where there's a will there's a way. I'm glad your trip is back on track. Isn't eBay great? I've bought and sold many things there and just love it. Have a great trip.

Do you mean that you paint/decorate them and then sell them?
Good for you! Instead of sitting down and boo-hoo'ing you went into action!
For some time now I've wanted to sell some used baby clothes and other items on e-bay. I've decided to wait until the kids are out of school and my schedule lightens up. Success stories like yours and the ones on C-Ann's thread are very encouraging.
Best wishes for your continued success.

Thank you very much. My husband and I were just as disappointed as the kids that we would have to cancel. DH won't get a vacation before this as I am now almost 8 months pregnant and travelling isnt a bright idea. So we are both looking foward to going! I was just hoping to get some money for the trip, I figured maybe $500 profits between when I started and when we were planning on going. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I could earn enough for our condo already! I also signed up for a craft fair so that will be some money I hope! Here is my link if you just want to see what I make
