how you got that comment out of that post i will never figure out but whatever........more verbal in my posts? first of all verbal is usually aligned with oral. but, it is nice to know that you have taken a personal interest in the way i express myself.

EXACTLY....... whatever!

Say all you want. Feel better?

This type of post is exactly what Jen meant when she said you like to stir the pot. This is a rude reply. Jen wasn't mean in her post yet you try to belittle her in your response. I'm curious to know if you are this way when you are face to face with someone. I don't know you, but you're coming off as a bitter guy.

But for goodness sake, the butt kissing around here has reached a new low- not everyone is going to agree, but this is after all a 'discussion' board.

Pete- as always, thanks for your straight forward answers.

I don't think its 'butt kissing', I see it as showing appreciation for what they do. Yes it is a business but it is a GOOD business. A business that CARES about what people want.

If showing how much this site and information means to me is 'butt kissing', then go ahead. I AM A BIG, PROUD, BUTT-KISSER!

As to whether this site is 'free' or not, I think the best expression (used a lot in the UK to describe services such as the NHS) is 'free at the point of need/use'. You may be paying for it somewhere down the line, but when you use it you are technically paying nothing in that moment for that service.

now hold on just a minute............i have been kicked from one end of these boards to the other today, i fight back a little and i am a bitter guy. too funny.

:confused3 This statement confuses me. Seriously???

popcorn::

If i was vague, I apologize (but I won't apologize for being flippant, which was my point).

But yes, Ben and Jerry's cannot give away ice cream in Tennessee.

There seems to be a lot of unhappy people splitting hairs over a subject that isn't all that important today. Interesting viewpoints though. The OP's 1st post was for sure going to get a big reaction. Maybe that's what he wanted. Some of the side conversations are hilarious, nothing is free, butt kissing, trolls, donations, cake, This thread is great!! :rotfl2:

What's up Socrates? ;)

No I did not buy my computer just for the Dis. I owned a computer for many years before I even knew about the Dis. Sorry. :)

I was just pointing out that nothing is truely 100% free. There are underlying costs associated with everything.

Even that ice cream stand is not giving away the ice cream out of the kindness of their hearts. They are hoping by getting people to come down for some free ice cream that they will come back again and again to purchase more ice cream. Those that do are paying for the ice cream that was given away for free.

So yes I guess in your example some people may get something for nothing. However if you are a taxpayer you are indirectly paying for that ice cream even if you do not get one because they are going to write it off on their taxes as a business expense.

It must be disheartening to see the world this way.

How you can you ever just graciously accept something without seeing the underlying cause and effect.

Thanks for pointing out how lucky I am.

Your post seems like an attack, so others become defensive and attack back. If you want to debate, go to the CB. Here we are like to keep things light.

Just sit back, have some cake and watch Survivor.:happytv:

please do not change the size of my words. you made it look like i shouted at you and i did not. you however did shout at me. of course i am sure that is my fault. if had had not put that word there you could not have supersized it.

Not funny, sad is more like it. You had to expect some flak from your post. As far as my post to you, it had nothing to do with your original post. You're entitled to your opinion. My reply was due to your rude reply to Jen. Please express all the opinions you want, all opinions are defensible. that's what these boards are for. The minute you're mean or rude to someone, that is indefensible. There's no need to be snarky with people who are not snarky with you.

Paul, Kate - spot on.

We're watching Eddie Izzard - Marathon Man. He's doing 43 marathons, one per day, taking one day off per week. All for the Sport Relief charity. It's painful to watch! You gotta see this, incredible documentary.

free on the front end........not so much on the back........the advertisers would most likely agree with me there, result?, the Dis is free, zilch, nadda and any other word you choose to use to SOME but not all, dont forget the advertisers are users to. they use it to get their message across. so is the Dis free? nothing is free!!!

Nope....wrong again.

The Dis is free to anyone that wants to use it.

Should you wish to advertise....different story.

And with that....I'm done with this ridiculous conversation and the discussion about the hidden costs of free ice cream and the Dis.

Hey Kevin,

How are you Feeling? Missed you this week on the show.

Sounds like your feeling better.

Dalton-

Here is the way I see it (back to your original post) If someone came into your business and you were playing Sirius, that is a service you provide for the customers who solicit your business. If the people who booked through Dreams got a password to listen to DISradio that would be one thing, it would be a service they provide their customers but considering the boards are free and thousands of people use them (and can access DIS radio) it is not just a benefit to customers who solicit their business.

I REALLY like DISradio and listen at work, especially when it has been a stressful day. I can hear all kinds of music that I do not own. It is free to me. If I owned Sirius and listened at work, I would pay for it. I am happy to donate (as I was to become a Bronze member) but that is my choice. I choose to solicit the radio and therefore choose to pay a nominal fee.

Just my two cents......

Kristin

When I look at the inherit costs in things, I also think of the opportunity cost. What else could I be doing with my time?

Sorry to bring an economic concept into the mix :)

Dalton,

The victim act is getting old. You knew exactly what was going to happen when you posted what you did. You knew what the reaction would be, and it was exactly the reaction you hoped for - otherwise, you would have posted your comments on one of the donation threads you mention in your OP.

From Wikipedia;

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Shoe...fit...wear. I'm not saying your a bad guy, or that your opinion doesn't have merit - that's why I gave a considered response to your comments. However, when you openly look to inflame on a discussion board, it's called trolling, whether you have 2 posts or 2000. I stand by my comments.

As I said, you knew what you were doing when you entitled the thread "thought long and hard about this before posting" - so really, the victim act is Drama Queen 101 - and I have a PhD in it, so don't pull that foolishness here.

Note to self - use that one at work!
Also use this one "You're village called their (there?) idiot back.
