I just finished scanning my late grandfather's slides and found some pictures from the early days of Disneyland. Most of them are pics taken of or on the Mark Twain. You can also see Huck's Landing, the rafts, the canoes, the burning cabin, and the Skyway.

Based on the ages of my mom and aunt, I'd say these pictures were taken in 1957 or 1958. There was also a slide box labeled "Disneyland" with an address where they lived in the late 50s which gives me a bit more confidence with regard to the timeframe.

Here's a link to the pictures.

Found one more. I'll probably run across pictures from the 70s and 80s when I get to scanning prints. First wave was slides, second will be negatives, third will be prints.

THe one with the two little girls sitting at the front of the boat with just a little chain between them and the water cracked me up. Could you just see Disney having kids sit that close to the water today. LOL.

I have pictures from my mom when she went to DL as a little girl in 1957. But they area all black and white. I have to say I'm rather surprised to see those in color. I would imagine a color camera and film back then would have been very expensive.

Anyway, here is our Disneyland Nostalgia thread. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1988546&page=20
We have all been posting our old DL pictures here and it makes a fun place to look at all of them through the years. I've posted some of the 1957 pics on there.

I noticed you had some of the same types of pics my mom had- the log cabin on fire from Indian attack, the Indian village with real Indians, and Mark Twain. I'd love to see any more you find.

Wow, great pictures. Thanks so much for sharing. I love looking at old pictures of the parks.

Gramps was always one to have the latest gadget. I've got color slides that date back to the 40s. The tags on the boxes from the late 50s show a cost of about $1.50 per roll for developing and mounting. I have no idea what the equipment and film cost at the time but I'm sure it was spendy. If I had a time machine, I'd warn him not to trust his film to Drewry or Finley. Genuine Kodak slides are the only ones that have held up. The others are faded to red.

Well, I'm very impressed with the quality. Maybe you could fix up the redish ones in photoshop. :confused3 Actually if you had a time machine, you could just take your own picures. :rotfl:

I have slides from the late 60s @ DL in my closet, I would love to scan them on to our Computer. We hardly ever take them out to look at them.

You can buy special scanners for slides. I keep asking my dad to get one, but he's looking for a good quality one. So, it keeps getting put off.

Oh wow, those were awesome. Thanks for sharing. It was weird looking at the photo of Rivers of America. It's amazing to think those trees in the background are now the location of SM, HM, Winnie the Pooh, etc...:goodvibes

It's funny I was thinking the same thing when I saw that picture. As a kid I can remember sitting up there and loving the view in the 60s/70s.

I was also enjoying how dressed up everyone was when they visited DL.

Great pictures!! Thanks so much for sharing!!!

I wish I could have rode the skyway... I was on the sky ride at the OC Fair today and was thinking about how cool it would have been to ride one of those buckets through the Matterhorn...
