Thought I would share a scam attempt

Heh, to be honest I laughed but I thought I would share for the less experienced players.

Someone wanted to trade me a beta gold candle.

he put it up, it was brown LOL. the trade window is sort of greyed as you all know so it looked pretty good. Easy to skip past if your not cautious. Anyways to be sure I clicked on the item and bring up the big picture. It became more obvious in the picture it was indeed a brown candle. However the item text only said haunted mansion ballroom candle. did not say yellow!

I pulled up my report window so he couldnt run. Then questioned him. He cried for a while he didnt know. I told him I would not report, but left the window open and filled out LOL just in case. After watching him a while I was still unsure and then he left. I asked the room what they thought LOL

We decided it was to much coincidence it happens to be an item that doesnt say the color in the description in the big picture inventory screen LOL.

We voted report. I filled it out best I could and mentioned I did not trade in the report.

I got the canned response back. Someone saw him try it in another room so I did the right thing. VMK didnt get him tho he was back again later. LOL. I dont blame VMK for this, it was to hard to report in game exactly what was going on. It was a case where contact us was the way to go so you could explain exactly how he was trying to prey on less experienced players. ANYWHO.

Pay attention to this. Look closely at the items before you hit accept!

Just as a side note, I really wish that VMK would make it so that you don't have a limited dictionary when you report something. It makes it difficult, and slows you down.

i think that scam has been tried on me somewhere between 4-8 times LOL! all the mansion candles are like that in trades and it really bothers me

heh in the end, like I said to much coincidence he is making a "mistake" on an item that just happens to not say the color LOL That is why I reported it.

Apparently this player doesn't listen to your podcast.

I think, if anything, the description of the candlesticks should now include
colors just for this reason. I can see how the yellow and brown look similar.

It sounds like a boy that tried this on you.. If so he has a sister bc just last week a girl tried that on someone in one of my trade rooms.. I told them cheating ppl will not be accepted in my trade room.. She protested that she was not cheating anyone and showed me the candle stick and I agree it did not have a color.. And to be honest it did look yellow.. Tho she said it was gold.. Either way the trade never went through and the girl ended up leaving shortly there after..

its kind of common so may not be the same person. Anyways the actual item is yellow, but we all call it gold.

Yeah, and like you two discussed on the podcast, the gray and brown mansion are like this, too, except that they actually say what color it is in that description. I had someone try basically this same scam with me involving the brown mansion and then saying they didn't know Yeah, it happens a lot. I'm glad this was posted.

this is probably the hundredth time i have heard this and has happened to me quite a bit usually the same person thinking the next day i might fall for it or the next lol maybe we are both dealing with the same person

I see this candle scam quite a bit. However, sometimes I do genuinely believe the person offering the brown candle has been scammed themself, thinking they really do have the yellow candle. The sad state of VMK.

you can also do this with the brown mansion shoes, shirt, pants.


Just be careful before you accept. Click the item to make sure its the actual item you wanted.

I was just thinking that. That would help, except some players would abuse staff
