flying out of Pearson and have decided TO use the yellow tags - do we clear customs in TO or in Orlando - trying to figure out if we put the tags on the bags before they are checked in TO or after we have landed in Orlando if we have to collect the bags there - am I making any sense??

What yellow tags? If it is for ME you have to pickup your own bags to bring to the bus as ME is only for domestic flights.

You clear customs at Pearson.

Not true, each and every single person using DME is welcome to use the yellow tags on their inbound flight (just not on the outbound). This means that Disney will collect your luggage for you from Orlando and the bags will 'magically' appear in your Disney hotel room.

To the OP - if you want Disney to pick up on your behalf put the yellow tags on your bags before you leave home!!!

To make things clearer, the yellow tags are the exact same set up as those used for cruise lines.

When we flew down in January, we flew through Calgary where we cleared customs. After clearing customs I put the yellow ME tags on before giving them back our luggage. Arriving in Orlando we went right to the ME counter where they asked for a small description of all our bags and boarded our bus all within 25 min of landing. :cool1: The only down side was your bags don't travel with you to the resort, our bags showed up 3-4 hours later! It wasn't a problem for us as I packed a carry on with everything we needed for the first day/night. If using ME, you have the option of using the yellow tags and letting them get your luggage to the resort or not using the tags and getting your own luggage at the airport and taking it to the bus, probably what I'm going to do in November.

I'd rather get my own bags too but I'm being outnumbered by the rest of the family. So we clear customs in Canada/Toronto and put the tags on then?

I believe for all flights leaving Pearson and entering the US that you clear customs in Toronto. If you want to make sure just call your airline and find out. As for the tags, most airlines remove old/different tags from your luggage as not to confuse the luggage handlers. You could put them on ahead of arriving at the airport, just inform the airline checkin people as to what they are for and not to remove them, and you should be fine.

I had the same questions before I left.
Flew out of TO Pearson - cleared customs in TO.
I didn't use the yellow tags as I wasn't sure about the transfer in Orlando.
I found the Orlando airport alittle confusing - I picked up a luggage cart right beside baggage claim ($3.00 US for the cart!). Then was told by a WDW rep I had to go to the other side of the airport and check in at the ME counter.
Actually, there was no problem - the bus driver loaded my bags under the bus, once I arrived at the CBR, the bell hops dealt with the bags.
I wanted my luggage right away....last note - return flight on AC, my bags were "lost". Arrived home Friday night - got my bags Sunday morning!

I flew from Nova Scotia to toronto to Orlando and used the ME tags, we needed clear US customs in toronto first. Everything went off without a hitch. I was flying Westjet and they told me to put the tags on before i went through US customs in toronto.

When i landed in orlando i was taken right to my bus and was in my hotel about 30-40 min later. My baggage showed up 3 to 4 hours after that

No problems what so ever.

My trip was in May!

Since we will be arriving in Orlando at 9:20pm, we'll be picking up our luggage ourselves. I don't want to take the chance of having DME deliver it in the middle of the night!

We arrive in Orlando just after lunch time so we should have our bags in enough time for bed. I would definatly prefer to get my own bags (read control freak in there :lmao: ) but I'm being outnumbered by the rest of the family. So I go with the flow I guess.

Thanks everyone!!

Once you do DME the first time (and have them transport your luggage for you) you won't go back to picking up your luggage. It is extremely easier to just walk thorough the airport, and onto the bus (without shlepping your luggaage through the airport).

The only reason to delay putting on the yellow ME tags is to avoid confusing the airline baggage handlers.

Ideally you put on the tags just before you lose sight of your baggage for the last time, except it is tricky to guess when.

For example you are at customs expecting that you would get the bags back and hand them over to be checked. But the bags are inspected and immediately whisked away from you before you can reach out and put the tags on.

Or you have to keep picking your bags up, step forward with the line and put your bags down and you never have a spare contiguous 60 seconds to put the tags on when you reach the on deck circle in front of the skycap.

So you have to guess and put the tags on a little in advance.
