I just got a pin code today after creating an account with my info under my boyfriend's e-mail address late last wk and saved a ton of $$ from my original reservation at AKL for October.
I knew nothing about these pin codes till last week. I created an account over a month ago and had saved some offers, got a welcome email. Then I discovered these pin codes and followed the advise to create an itinerary and so I did that and the next day got a free dining code (which I can't use) and yesterday got the 20/30/40 code. I did not put a resort choice on the itinerary, just my daily park schedule plan.
I was doing everything to get a PIN code. Multiple account, saving and deleting itineraries, etc. Finally I called to see if I had any discounts attached to my name. And behold! I did, the 20/30/40 discount. Then magically a few hours later I get an email with the the PIN!
I would LOVE to get the FD though. It would be a better deal for us. Sooooo, I'm back to messing around on the Disney website!
Thank goodness but I've never had a problem receiving pin codes. Actually I received 2 in one week a couple of weeks ago. I just called this morning to change the dates of my next trip and the CM just informed me that I have several PIN's associated with my account and she checked which one worked best for my dates etc.
I called to ask a few questions about the reservation and while I had the CM on the phone I asked if there were any discounts attached to mine or my husband's name and there aren't after all I have done!

About a year ago I wrote (and mailed) a lengthy complaint letter to Meg Crofton, and cc'd it to Al Weiss (President of Disney Parks), George Kalogridis (Disneyland Resort President), and Bob Iger himself. I think I got a pin through my email, and I promptly replied that I was not interested.
A few weeks ago I got another pin by mail for the Disneyland resorts, and again I wasn't trying. This week I just sent off some more complaint letters explaining to Meg Crofton and George Kalogridis just why I will not "be their guest" for the forseeable future.
