Those with Kohl's Cash-? & what are you going to buy

Be careful buying with Kohl's Cash and then returning. Last time I used Kohl's Cash in the store they told me that if you return something you bought with Kohl's Cash, you don't get anything back for the amount of the Kohl's Cash (ie. you buy a pan for $50, use $20 KC, and pay $30. If you returned the pan, you would only get $30 back).

That was my understanding too. I returned a sweatshirt that I bought DS w/$20 KC. I didn't show my receipt. I got $16 on a store credit but I was ok with that. People were doing this repeatedly and saving their KC for a big purchase. It wasn't intended to be used that way.

It's like if you buy something at Target for $20 w/a $10 coupon. If you return it you only get $10 back. Kohl's didn't used to be this way but they are now. You should only use KC on stuff you want to keep.

Yes - this is VERY good advice!

So I have a question. I bought several pairs of pants with the Kohl's cash we got on Black Friday. One of them doesn't fit like they did before I washed them, now they're too short. What happens if i return them and there is not the same pair in my size? Can I exchange them for a different brand/type?

Kohl's cash used to be a lot easier to use!!!

I believe you can get something from the same department that has the same original cost. At least that used to be the policy, but I know they have changed some things.

I have also returned stuff I got with KC without a receipt. I didn't get the full amount back, but most of it, in store credit.

They won't let you return things that you have worn/washed will they?

Yes they will, no problem.

As far as exchanges go, from what I understand you now have to exchange for the same item in a different size or color. They may be nice and let you exchange for a different brand, but doesn't always work.

Kohls Cash used to be much easier to use. But from what I have heard many people were scamming with them, so they decided to crack down. For me, I try to think of it as a coupon, not cash. Makes more sense in my brain that way.

So I went yesterday, here's what happened (I had used $185 Kohl's cash and only paid .81 for my entire order). The pants I bought do not come in a longer size so she first told me that I had to buy something that was the same brand and the same price ($48). I found a different style but they were $44. I went back to CS and got the same lady so I didn't have to explain again. She then said, "Oh, we can just give you merchandise credit for the returned pair and then you can buy the other pair." She had NOT said that the 1st time. I think I got lucky, I ended up getting about $2.50 cash back for the difference. When she did the return, since I had paid .81, she gave me cash back of .81 and a merchandise credit for the remainder of the purchase price for the original pants. Then when I bought the 2nd pair, she gave me change back from the merchandise credit instead of me having to keep $1.35 on that card.

I think it's all in your attitude. I didn't get mad, but I was ready to ask for a supervisor to see what could be done. She was very nice during the whole process.

You all seem so knowledgeable about the ins and outs of shopping at Kohl's. Kohl's cash never seems to work for me, but that might be because I typically shop online. It seems to have expired by the time my merchandise arrives! so I let it expire, but then invariably return enough that it would have disappeared anyway.

Any tips for benefitting when you shop online? -- Suzanne
