Ok, I'm considering getting an iPhone as my contract is up in October. I'm already an O2 customer and am happy to stay with them. Just looking for any advice really as I know a few of you guys have iPhones!

I'm guessing I won't be able to get any "retention" deals if I go for an iPhone? Personally, the tariffs aren't that interesting to me as I text more than i phone and there's no difference text-wise for any tariff. Considering getting a text bolt-on though.

Would I be better getting a 3G S or will it not make much difference to me??

I'm just really worried about spending the money on it and then hating it, although I know it'd be the same with any phone :confused3

If you go into an O2 store you can probably try it out. they will normally give you 14 days with the phone to make your mind up, if you don't like it, you can take it back within 14 days and only pay for the texts and calls you have sent.

This is what I did and ended up keeping it.

I'm not sure if you can get the old 3g anymore with O2, but I would stick with the 3gs anyways, much better phone.

Hope that helps

Thanks! I had a shot of one ages ago when they first came out plus one of my mate's has one and loves it!

I was not much of a texter so the appeal of the iPhone was for calling, internet and apps. I have not regretted it and had major withdrawals not being able to use it at WDW :rolleyes1

As far as txt goes I actually use the iPhone more than previous phones. I like the fact that you can follow a conversation in text.

I would definitely go for the 3GS

I have to say, apart from living in a really crap area for reception which O2 arn't really good for. I would say the iphone is a great piece of kit Especially now it have video. I have the older one but still works just as well.

The apps are good fun as well and if you have 10 minutes to spare, you can play on the net or a game. Plus you have a few of the disney apps which gives you your Disney fix !

However, the tariffs are a bit of a rip off if you text alot or call alot but it don't really effect me so I still think its good value for money.

Let us know how it goes

Thanks guys :) I'm considering seeing if O2 will offer me any deals if I threaten to leave but I doubt it if I wanna go for the iPhone.

I don't particularly want a 24 month contract (18 months kills me, let alone 24!) but if I go for the 3GS at £35 a month I only have to pay £87 for the iPhone. However, if I go for 18 months I've gotta pay £190 for the phone.

Argh I just don't know what to do :confused3

Don't worry about contract length, seriously you won't be hankering for upgrades with this! Normally I get itchy feet about 11 months into owning a phone, but not at all with the iPhone. I'm on a 18 month contract (since July 08) but will be keeping it til the next iPhone comes out (meaning I'll have had it about 24 months if the pattern continues!!).

Also my wife got one the other day (a 3g on the 24 month £35 contract) and although you're right about not being able to get a 'deal', she did get them to throw in a case and screen protector! This was instore :)

:goodvibes

Ohhh a case would be good, lol.

I think I'm gonna wait, officially I can't "upgrade" my contract until the end of October but I was considering just paying 2 contracts for all of 2 months. However, I've been reading rumours about O2's excluse contract with the iPhone coming to an end at the beginning of October. While I wanna stay with O2 if (and it's a big if) this happens then it could mean better deals come up with everyone competing with each other.

So I'm gonna hold off just now and hopefully this does happen and a better deal comes my way

I have an iphone and it's like another hand, I would be lost without it :rotfl2: There are lots of really useful Apps and I use the internet tethering too:)

I'm really at the "I Want!" stage, lol, you know that way when you just HAVE to have something?!

Stopping myself from going out and buying right now, lol.

I think I'm gonna do what Money Saving Expert suggests and take the £45 a month contract (18 months), pay £87 for the phone, and then after 9 months downgrade to £35 a month.

Or do I just do the easier thing of taking taking the £35 a month contract from the beginning for 24 months and still pay £87 for the phone.

Decisions! Decisions!! Like I said before though call minutes are nothing to me! I text more than I call and would prefer more texts than the 500 but there's no greater text bundle!

I have an Iphone which I took out in November last year. I travel a lot with my job and it is invaluable for me. I can get flight status, train times, taxis, local restaurants. Plus I get e-mails, and the usual stuff.

I had an issue where my Iphone crashed and the service from Apple was excellent, the guy stayed on the phone until I was happy everything was back the way it was.

I would recommend it to anyone then see how many apps you can find that you like :)
