Those who work outside of the home..how many weeks of vacation?

How many weeks of vacation are you given each year? When I worked full-time as a nurse, I got 4 weeks (after 10 years of service-3 weeks before that). I always thought that other professions got the same things. What about you?

We have paid time off that is used for either vacation and sick time. I get 26 days a year (plus a personal day) and must use at least 7 of them. The rest I can carry over into the next year.

We also get 10 days of family care time that can be used when kids, parents, spouses, or SOs are sick.

Yep, I love my company's "time away from work" policies!

I've been with my company for 12 years and get 5 weeks of vacation each year. Some of that is called "personal" time, but it all adds up to 5 weeks.

I will have worked at my company 2 years this August.

We accrue our time but it equals 10 days of vacation, after 3 years I will get 12 days, 15 after 5 years. We also get about 6-7 comp. days a year for days when the corp. office is closed (we can't close because we are a call center). Then we get 5 sick days and 2 personal days per year.

after 4 years I get 2 weeks vacation and 1 week sick leave plus 3 floating days. Next year I get one more week vacation and all time must be taken that year or you lose it.

I only work part time now, 20 hours a week and I get paid every other week. For a 40 hour pay period, which is two weeks I get 2 hours of vacation time and 2 hours of sick time.

When I lived in the US and worked 40 hours a week I got two weeks of paid vacation. The first year I was with the company I got one week paid, the second and third year I was there I received two weeks. Since we move every three years I have never been employed longer than three years consecutively by an employer.

We have the debate over PTO (Paid Time Off) and sick/vacation time about every other year. If we go to PTO, I will come out behind, I think.

Our schedule goes like this:

0-2 years = 2 weeks
2 - 5 years = 3 weeks
5 - 10 years = 4 weeks (I'm here)
10 + years = 5 weeks (I'll be here in November '05)
Max accrual - 240 hours (6 weeks)

Sick time (for any medical reason for any family member):

12 days per year regardless of service
Max accrual - 240 hours (6weeks)

Holidays - 9 of them

So all total, if I use everything each year (which I don't), I would have 41 days off, which is a little over 8 weeks.

after 16 years I get 4 weeks vacation, 1 week of personal days and a voluntary unpaid week.

We have PTO here and I admit I prefer it over having separate vacation & sick days. After four years, I get 25 days of PTO and 8 holidays, for a total of 33 usable days (prior to the 4 year mark, I got 20 days PTO). I know my husband gets unlimited sick days but only 10 days vacation, 8 holidays and 2 floating holidays. So in the long run I do much better than he does for time off. My dad (after many years at his company) only gets 32 days off, so I think I do okay where I work!

DH only get 2, until his 5th year with the company(next year), then he gets 3.
When I was working I was up to 4 weeks paid vacation, but then my job was eliminated.

4 years ago when I quit my job to be a sahm I was up to 4 weeks vacation and 6 sick days. Although I was a supervisor in my dept and even though you had the vacation it was almost impossible to get time off.

DH has been working at his company for 5 years. He gets 6 weeks of paid vacation a year.

I got 2 weeks until 5 years then have 3. Our company allows us to buy up to a week of vacation so I do and have 4 weeks this year. We don't have a set number of sick days, basically if you're sick you stay home. Most people don't abuse the sick days but there's always a few that do. We have 12 holidays, of which 3 are floating.

I have 10 vac day and get 5 more after 10yrs of service. I get sick and 0 personal. Kinda icky.

Our schedule is as follows:

Up to 5 years - 2 weeks

5+ to 10 years - 3 weeks

10+ years - 4 weeks

Every 5 years after that you get 1 extra week - but only in the 5th year

We also get 2 personnal days per year.

I get 20 vacation days, 1 personal and lots of holidays. I will be here 15 years so starting in January I get 26 vacation days. DH will soon get 4 weeks and he's been at his job 15 years, also.

We also get 15 sick days a year which is great when you have kids. It can be accumulated.

I am a medical assistant in a pediatric office. Our office policy on vacation time is based on years of service for all the employees. After the first year, you get 1 week paid vacation and 1 week paid sick/personal time. After 2 years, you get 2 weeks paid vacation and 1 week paid/sick time. After 5 years, you get 3 weeks paid vacation and 1 week paid/sick time.

I have been there for 8-1/2 years. I am going to push for another tier when I hit my 10th year. Maggie
