Those who stay at Disney Resorts....

Disney transportation - it's free!

Altho we do rent a towncar to get us from the airport to WDW and back. But once at WDW we use the buses, boats, monorail.

Last time we went, we rented a car and never used it once we were on Disney property. We'll be there again in May and this time we're not renting a car. We're gonna try the Magical Express bus. Hopefully it will be a good experience. In my opinion, a car really isn't necessary unless you plan on leaving the Disney property!!!

disney transportation, i wouldn't want to bother with driving around and finding a parking space at the parks when the buses drop you right off at the entrance.

We have Magical Express booked to pick us up from the airport, then we'll use WDW transportation while we're there. Afterwards we'll pick up our rental car and drive to Ft Lauderdale for a few more days.

We used our van twice at Disney. Once to drive there and once to drive home. Disney transpo is quick, free and generally faster than driving. If you drive you must park (usually not that close to park entrance) then walk or shuttle to the park entrance. With Disney transpo, you are dropped off at or near the front entrance. I've done both, trust me, go with the Disney transportation. pirate:

We rent a car. I don't like relying on Disney busses. If you get to the parks early enough, you can park pretty close to the entrance of each park. When I'm ready to go,I don't want to wait for a bus.

I'm not interested in leaving Disney property during my vacation.

I rarely make dining reservations at other resorts.

I LOVE not driving for one time in my life!

Disney's Magical Express (the bus to and from the airport) and Disney Transport (buses,/boats/monorails within WDW property) are a perfect fit for me.

I can't explain it, but to me, it's just heaven to put my car key and my wallet in the room safe and not see them again until check-out time. With the transportation and the room charge, I have no need for either, and Disney is the only place I can vacation with the kids where this is true.

We LOVE Disney transportation and would never drive to the parks. Magical Express is very convenient too.

We drive to Disney so have our own vehicle on hand to use. We normally use our own vehicle instead of taking the buses. Just like having the convenience of our own car.

We drive down, but we always use Disney transportation. To us it just seems much more convenient even if we have to wait for a bus to arrive (getting dropped off much closer to the gate is a great perk). We use our car when we want to go off property to grab a bite to eat that isn't Disney after a couple days.

Good Luck!

I only use Magical Express and Disney onsite transportation. And I use it all, boats, monorail, bus, walking paths. Best resort system in the world.

I must be in the minority here, because I hate Disney transportation and will not go without renting a car. I don't think Disney has done a poor job at providing transportation, it's just that it's time-consuming to get from your hotel to anyplace other than one of the parks or DTD, since Disney is such a huge place. I really think that Disney's transportation is the best that it can be, but I can always get someplace quicker in my rental car. I love being able to hop in my car and get to anyplace I want to be within ten minutes or so. I know that lots of people don't like to drive on their vacation, but I find waiting for (and being on) a bus reminiscent of commuting on public transportation at home! I also like being able to go back to my hotel in the middle of the day, and it just seems so much easier to me in a car.

We prefer having a car. Its much more convenient and faster than Disney transportation. It also allows us to go off property (gasp!) to do things like grocery shop (we stay at DVC resorts), go to the Character Premier and an occasional off-site meal.

We drive down, park the car, and don't see it again until it's time to go home. Being the only driver in a family of 3 adults, part of my vacation is not driving. Also, my mother uses a scooter while there and it would not fit in the car.

I rent a car for the following reasons:

1. No waiting in line at airport for bus or other transportation (I rent a car from one of the agencies that let's me just walk up and take a car without having to go through any lines).

2. I like to eat at and visit other resorts and it is much more convenient and quick to go from resort to resort with a car.

3. I usually stay at YC and find the bus ride from there to AK to be abnormally long (it just seems much longer than it should be). Thus, I always drive to AK.

4. For emergencies, it is great to have a car to be able to leave WDW property if I need to (over the years, I have had to take kids to a clinic, get groceries, etc.).

5. When it comes time to leave, I can leave exactly when I want instead of, again, having to wait on a bus or other means of transport.

Never rented a car....
Disney transportation is soooo convenient...and free:thumbsup2

When we go to a resort for dinner...we'll take a cab home...
Usually take a few cabs during my trip...
We do a lot of resort dining.....long commute...disney...
So my cab fares are about 50 bucks for the
week.....Well worth it IMO....

If I ever do a split stay...Universal...shhh..
I will rent a car..

This is how I feel too.. like I'm home on public transportation!

We always rent a car. The only resort we sometimes take the bus to is MK, and even then, only when it's evening magic hours.

It never takes more than 10 minutes to get to any park, and I will usually use AAA parking which gets you pretty close to the park (Especially at Epcot!).
Even though the disney busses are efficient I'm sure, it's still time consuming. Getting from one resort to another can be almost a hour trip!

If you have any interest in getting to any other attractions, Sea World, Universal, KSC, the beach... a car is needed. We take longer vacations and add in some non-disney activities.

Getting staples from a regular grocery store is nice too. Especially when you find, for some reason (souveniers)... your suitcases just can't fit (souveniers) everything inside, so you have to make a walmart run to get a new rolling duffle bag :rolleyes1

You'll have a great time whatever you decide! It is Disney after all!!

Do you rent a car or use disney transportation?
We never rent a car. It is part of the true vacation feeling not having to drive anywhere. The disney transportation (buses, boats and monorail ) are wonderful. We never have any trouble with the buses. They are constantly coming and going. The more you go to WDW the more you figure things out. LIke during our last trip we were at MGM and wanted to go to Epcot. The line for the Epcot bus was extremely long. We took the boat instead and we were there in no time. The cm's are very helpful in helping you find the best way to get where you are going also.
