My dd's favorite treat is often something chocolatey. Since it is summer that means chocolate ice cream or popsicles, which she inevitably spills on her clothes. I am having the hardest time getting chocolate out of clothes, even if I put it right in the washing machine! Does anyone have any help for me? TIA!

Try Zout. It works great and my DD2's clothes have no stains. The method that works best for me is to wet the spot, spray Zout on it, let it sit overnight, and then rinse the next morning with hot water. I then put it in the washer. I have never left it sitting for too many days after I rinse it in hot water so I don't know if that will help you while you are on vacation but it is a handy little thing to have around the house.

I swear by that spray and wash dual power. It gets lots of stuff out!! I have 3 boys and lots of stains. My 8 year old uses his shirt for a napkin most of the time. Word of advice though, don't let it sit much more then 5 minutes cause it can take the color out too.

I second the vote for Zout. My dd gets spaghetti sauce and/or ketchup on her everyday I SWEAR and Zout gets it all out!

I highly recommend a Tide pen. I've used it on chocolate, ketchup, cherry juice, and coffee stains/spills.

I've had great luck with the Spray N Wash stain stick! Once you see the stain, you rub some of that stuff on it and let it sit for a few days. Most stains that I've done this with have come out, even those that were washed once and dried in the dryer!

Good luck with the chocolate lover--my dd is 10 and still gets chocolate all over herself when eating ice cream! ;)

I swear by Spray & Wash.

I use the spray at home, but when we go to WDW, I always take the stain stick with us!

soak in oxiclean and warm water overnight, my daughter got choc swirl ice cream all over her new white shirt the other day and the oxicleam took them all out.

For really difficult stains, I have used Stain Devils. They come in little yellow bottles and have different formulas for different stains.

BTW...we love a Tide to go pen

Okay - what is it with 8 y.o.??? I have one, too, and I swear, she is messier than my 5 y.o.!!! "Honey, lean over the table, don't bring the food to you"!!! Is a daily speech!!!

Yes, Zout is awesome, and I have been known to take a toothbrush to the stain with the Zout, especially if it was spaghettio's or chocolate. Really work it in there!

OR..... Make it really fun. Give them the messy treat while in the tub, let them eat it and then add water and a few fun toys for a no washing fun extra bath time.

OR.. Keep one old swim suit (or let them strip if they are really little) give them the treat outside and trun on the sprinkler or fill the kiddie pool.

OR... Have one old shirt, that you always wear for these treats ( DS had a really ugly fake Barney shirt that we always and only wore for these occassions)

Now if you have to eat these things out in public, you have gotten great stain treating ideas!!!!

Have a FUN summer

I also love the shout dual action. It works on everything! Even old stains have come out with this product!!! I also add color safe bleach to all my kids' loads of laundry.

I second the Carbona Stain Devils. They make 8 or so different types and work very well. I like the ball point pen and rust spot kinds.

I love the Tide to go pen too.

I have luck with a Zout oxyclean combo. I put both on the stain and have at it with my tide spinbrush. Don't let it sit for long a friend of mine ruined a shirt, she forgot about it and it was bleached out.

I always put a drop of liquid dish soap right on the spot and rub it in, and leave it until you do a regular load of laundry.

Are those the Carbona products? There is one for chocolate that I swear by. Pour a little on --scrap it with a plastic disposable knife and then wash. I like to scrap it/rub it in with the knife because I can see the stain begin to come out.

One question for you zout users -- have you ever had it take the colorout of your fabric? I used it years ago on a cute outfit of my daughters. I sprayed the knees and let it sit -- it took the pink right out of the fabric! I do use Zout for other things but I don't let it sit anymore.

I have never used the spray, just the squeeze bottle. I never let it sit more than the time it takes to let the basin fill, so I never had an issue.

That Carbona stuff works like a charm! I only use it as a last resort though. Otherwise I use the Spray n Wash dual stuff. I have a very messy 3 yo and it takes out most everything she gets on her clothes. Works better than both Zout and Oxyclean for me.:)
