Those that buy Pins to trade from eBay... HELP!

The pins with the hidden mickey, as seen by the little silhouette of his head on some pins, are CM only pins. You can not "buy" them for they are given to CM to trade with guests. I don't know why the are called scrapers but I do know about the CM picking up their quota to trade with guests.

Actually, you can buy hidden mickey pins too. They sell them in mystery pouches of 2, usually with other pin sets on the racks.

I'm afraid if I build up my pin collection, I'll get attached and won't want to trade :lmao:

That's why you buy a giant lot of scrappers on ebay and trade those (then tell yourself that you're buying from a reputable buyer, like everyone else here is doing)

Which is more ethical?

Buying a five-cent pin for a dollar, or selling a five-cent pin for nine dollars?

I work in merchandise and can tell you I get A LOT of fakes from both kids and adults. I always make the trade because that is my job. Where the problem comes in is that when the next guest comes to trade with me and my lanyard is full of fakes, well...they are trading and receiving a fake most of the time from me. So, many guests are now getting fake ones from cm lanyards. I know some guests have told me they thought we were to put up the ones we thought were fake but honestly, in my 2 years of being at the parks I have only done that once. There is not time for that after every trade.

I would take the fake pin off the lanyard. If you have a lanyard full of fake pins just take off the lanyard and stop trading until you can go to your area and trade out the pins. Pin trading is voluntary so it's not like you have to keep trading the fakes until your shift ends.

This is the main problem that I see on your end:

" I know some guests have told me they thought we were to put up the ones we thought were fake but honestly, in my 2 years of being at the parks I have only done that once. There is not time for that after every trade. "

You should know when, and where, in your work area the pin station is. You have to go there on your own time, on the way to or after your shift. If you won't do that it's the same attitude as people on eBay, or anywhere else knowingly passing on the pins. You either become part of the problem or part of the solution.

Easier said than done. I do know where the pin station is and you are limited to two a day. Most of those are fakes as well that have been traded. I do my best if its an obvious fake to just not put it on the lanyard. Some fakes are pretty convincing though and I won't know until a leader comes around and sometimes they can't even tell right away. I wasn't trying to start a debate here even though I know debates can be popular on online forums. I just wanted to share that all these fakes being traded to the cms are ultimately going right back to the guests a lot of time and that the guest needs to also be proactive and realize that if a deal is too good to be true than it probably is.

I'm not debating with you. I am stating a fact. A fact you just stated yourself.

You have the opportunity to go to the pin station and exchange 2 pins a day. You made the decision to go once in two years as a CM to do that. If it's as big a problem as you believe you should either take it upon yourself to help change it in a small way, or don't engage in pin trading. What can I further say to that ?

I agree I could go everyday but honestly the system is not set up for that. I wish there were a better system. As far as not trading? Sorry, that is in my job description. I will just keep accepting all pins and go about my day.

I must have 1000 pins in my collection. I would guess that 500 at least have been from trusted sellers on eBay. That's the key, get to know the seller, how long they have been around, what their feedback says. I've been a member of eBay since 1990s. There are many sellers that really care about what they sell and whether it is a scrapper pin or not.

Agree we have also gotten to know a lot of the sellers on the pin selling auctions on Facebook. We feel more than comfortable getting a trading lot from them.
